- Your rig: COWON X9 PMP - usage: music - File format used in your source: mp3 - Genre of music you listen to: sentimental, mostly Korean OST (sad .. soul .. heartbreaking song where you can cry just to listen to the song ) - Headphone: Full size .. but if possible with minimal leakage as I'm in open office - Other requirements: isolation -budget: RM 1300 maximum
Current choice : ATH-M50RD from Audio Technica .. but I'm expecting much better with the upgraded budget
Thank you for your suggestion

if you like songs with bass and a nice beat, the TMA-1 Studio is for you, if you prefer classical, or songs of that nature, you may want to check out the M50's.
For AKG K550, got pro and cons compared to M50 ... hard to justify the which one is the better
Other choices bro? Range RM 1K-1.3K model?
Thanks in advance

suddenly I got lubang to get ATH-A1000x / ATH-A2000x for less than RM 1600 .. is it much better than ATH-50RD? or I should go for ATH-W1000x?

A1000x and A2000x are suitable with very specific group of people, if you tried M50 before, the sound between them are huge different, not an improvement i would say.
How about W1000x? I didn't know how to explain it in music jargon, however my taste was to listen to the instrumental song. Most of it is quite a sad song that will trigger manly tears for those who are sensitive to soulful music. Example, Korean drama instrumental ... or Indon love movie instrumental . Didn't like rock or with too much bass.
For your information too, this will be my first headphone. At first I'm thinking to purchase M50, but after too much of good reviews, I'm thinking to get high end closed-back headphone that is much better than M50 itself. This is the reason I ended up with A1000x, A2000x, or W1000x as my budget is limited. Looking for other brand too, such as Sennheiser 650or Moda M-100 .. however, it was open and focus on bass. momentum is more compatible with ipod or iphones.
Thank you for your feedback

i dont think you will get the best value of going striaght to W1000x if this is your first pair of "serious" headphones is the w1000x really rm900 better sounding than the m50? you wont know unless you try it out. after all, m50 should be quite easy to re-sell as its still pretty popular... but i do agree that w1000x for < rm1500 is very attractive.
Thinking of 1 time solution.
m50 already cost half of the budget liao ... if bought m50 today, will have to wait for months in order to have the same budget again. Need to eat maggi or bread ... . And I'll be looking DAC/Amp later ... another spending
Based on your feedback. Look like you prefer W1000x? Compare to m50?
welll i currently use ATH ESW9 for listening, maybe 30 mins at nite when i am free. so yeah, i love woody for the looks, and am saving for w5000 hehe. in a way maybe you go for something that makes you the most happy. i am sure taking out the w1000x for listening session will put a smile on ur face every time. i know it does for my ESW9 which is simply gorgeuos to look at.
Depend on situation, if you are a vocal, instrument song lover, never go M50, that are more suitable for fast and impactful music. My personal recommendation will be Beyerdynamic, Grado and Alessandro series, they have the juice for clinical instrumental, amazing feel for vocal music genre. W1000x require good amp thou, do you plan to invest on them?
Noted for the M50s.
I'm currently eyeing A2000X. There are also T70P and Denon HD-600 with additional topup. Quite hard to choose as there's no clear winner ...
Grado is more towards open back right?
Btw, I'll invest on AMP which will be less than RM 300 in the near future

Grado is not towards open back, it is a fully open back set of headphones. It depends on what kind of sound you're looking for, if you're leaning more towards rock, metal or that kind of genre, Grado would be your best.
Haven't had much good experience with AT's cans, even with their Woody series, just can't seem to appreciate their tuning, but that's just me.
If i were you, try to find a balance between a price for headphones and amp. You wouldn't want to spend good money on expensive cans to find out you're lacking the capability to drive to its fullest.
Thanks for the feedback. It's quite dangerous for me to use open back set as my cubicle just inside the HR department and in front of the Head of HR. Therefore, any leakage would only cause a disaster. The headphone itself may already cause uncomfortable to other colleagues.
Therefore, the only type of Over ear Headphone (closed back) on my list within my range of budget was W1000X, A2000X, T70P, Denon D2000 or HD600 ... or i should fork more money to have a better headphone?
My original was M50 .. but due to the a lot of poison review in the Internet .. the budget have been increased almost thrice ...
Won't be optimal though, got any DAC or amp in mind?

it is like having a flashy sets of 22" wheels on a chilli hot ferrari but only have a 660cc kancil engine driving it you will hear sound but it wouldn't sing
so, the sounds is no good without amp ... i thought it can work like A2000X or W1000X, without amp .. they output still can be acceptable ... look like need to fork out more money
Tq for the feedback

i think if you insist on the w5000, just go ahead its better to go for end game headphone rather than upgrading step by step but not everyone like how the w5000 sounds the w3000anv on the other hand is a little easier to drive

headphone is one thing, think of the cost for amplification while at it, it will give you headaches for years to come
Wahhh .. need to purchase high end amp which is quite big and heavy? I'm thinking of using the headphone in the office ... so, portability is needed ..
And the price of good amp is over > RM 1000
does this mean with the budget that I have, I should go back to A2000X as it doesn't need a good amp?
