bodo nk compare bajet mesia ngan bajet jepun

japan annual "self defence"  budget, even though is less than 1 percent, is still like 1000% more than malaysia's entire 5 year plan military budget
*
if it were 1% of US annual defence budget, then no problem lar. rclxms.gif

sad..xm8 only prototype & sink after the 2008 economy.
It replace by HK 416 or Mk18.
for future combat:

I thought PASKAL is using it(or testing it)now?
ATM mainly using Steyr , M16 and M4 standard issue Rifle only?
are those Steyr and M16 being replace by M4 rifle?

copy rite for steyr expired. Malaysia bought the copy rite of M4, sad, M4 faced very bad problem during in desert environment.
That y US work with HK jemman to produce XM8, but stop by the crisis economi. Endup the pick the HK416 from jerman, MK16 from  Belgium, or the MK18 from USA.

M4 will slowly fully withdraw from USMC.

as far as I know, HK-416 is only use by PASKAL in malaysia?

Army Gets Colt’s CM901
QUOTE
KUALA LUMPUR: The Army is getting some 200 Colt Modular Carbine CM901s soon. The carbines – typically chambered for 7.62mm ammo are expected to be issued to regular units to boost their firepower and lethality. As these guns are carbines, they are for general issue and not meant as designated marksman rifles (DMR) like the US’s M14 EBR or the British L129A1 (another 7.62mm rifle derived from the AR10/AR15 design).

From Colt’s website:
“Initially developed to exceed the original SCAR requirements of a multi-caliber, single serial number modular weapon system, the Colt CM901 7.62 x 51 NATO (.308 Winchester) has the modularity and versatility you need. Its free-floating barrel and one-piece monolithic upper receiver provide exceptional accuracy. The revolutionary lower receiver and bolt carrier design enable the upper receiver group to be easily swapped out for any Colt MilSpec upper receiver chambered in 5.56 x 45 NATO (.223 Remington), without tools, in under a minute – allowing the weapon to be reconfigured to any situation at a moment’s notice. All operating controls are ambidextrous, providing you with flexibility and ease of use.”

New Army chief Jen Datuk Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Nor confirmed the procurement of the carbines, which were displayed at the Lima 2013. He said the 30 caliber carbines were more lethal than compared to the normal 5.56mm chambered carbines. He did not say whether it will be issued with optics (as shown in the picture below) but I guess the Army have to make do with it. Just ensure that the guys issued (not many) with the CM901 are trained properly to make full use of the 700 metre range of the 7.62mm ammunition.

Why I am writing about some 200 carbines when the Army faces a huge budget deficit and other issues, like the AV8 and Attack Helicopter programmes? For starters I went there to create a rapport with the new chief who is slated for bigger things. From that first meeting I am pretty confident that the rest of the questions will be answered in due course.

BTW, I am not purview to the cost of the CM901 procurement but the Colt website listed the LE901 – the semi-auto version of the same weapon at US$2423 (RM7637). I am also not sure whether the CM901 was a single procurement or part of the bigger M4 purchase through SMEO Sdn Bhd. Perhaps I will get the answers when I get to test drive these guns soon!
And before you asked these guns were not procured following the Lahad Datu incursion. Our procurement process is too antiquated for that kind of quick response.
