Ultra-fast Chinese copters
China Daily/Asia News Network | 11 September 2013 Wednesday

BEIJING - China is developing helicopters with the ability to fly at speeds twice the current average, said the country's major aircraft maker.

Mr Lin Zuoming, chairman of Aviation Industry Corp of China (AVIC), said the company is developing new-generation helicopters that can travel up to 500kmh.

Models of several new-concept helicopters were presented at the Second China Helicopter Expo in Tianjin that ended on Sunday.

The Blue Whale tilt-rotor aircraft being developed by AVIC will have a maximum take-off weight of 60 tonnes and a payload of up to 30 tonnes.

The chopper will be able to perform vertical take-offs and landings.

It can serve a wide range of military purposes, such as battlefield reconnaissance, patrols and air-to-ground strikes.

The Jueying-8, an unmanned, high-speed helicopter with co-axial rotors, was also featured at the expo. The aircraft was designed to test the feasibility of ultra-fast helicopters. Designers hope it will achieve a maximum speed of 400kmh.

DSEI 2013: Patria unveils new vehicle concept

10 September 2013 - 15:55
by Tim Fish in London

A new modular 8x8 vehicle concept prototype is being displayed by Patria at the DSEI exhibition for first time.

Heikki Allonen, president of Patria, told reporters that the vehicle is an improvement on the company’s successful Armoured Modular Vehicle (AMV) and they have used operator experience and operational feedback to develop the new concept.

The prototype vehicle is 8.4m long, a width of 2.8m, and a vehicle height over hull of 2.4m. With the basic vehicle weighing 13t, there is a gross vehicle weight of 30t offering a larger payload capacity without sacrificing mobility.

With a maximum speed in excess of 100km/h, the vehicle has a climbing capacity of 60%, can overcome obstacles up to 0.7m, cross trenches of 2.1m and has an operating radius of 600-1,000km.

Allonen stated that the new hull has a modular architecture and so the vehicle is future-proofed and can incorporate a variety of weapons up to 120mm including the Patria Nemo 120mm mortar system. The vehicle is also fitted with a situational awareness, and vehicle health and usage monitoring system.

As well as improvements in firepower, flexibility through modularity and payload efficiency, the vehicle was stated as having a superior performance with an upgraded power line and a new integrated terrain control system and modular ballistic, IED and mine protection options if required.

Future electrical power needs will be met by a 530 amp generator and an engine power output of 450kw. The concept is a base vehicle that can be adapted to customer requirements. The vehicle on display was fitted with a Saab remote weapon station.

Vehicle performance testing is still underway and the vehicle will not be named until 2014.

About 1400 AMV vehicles have been sold to seven customers over the past ten years and Patria said that when new vehicle comes to fruition it will complement the success of the AMV and not replace it.

MILF and MNLF are a whole difference entity
and MNLF are a faction of MILF that wanted Misuary to be the leader of MILF

to be more precise, mos tof the MNLF member is the former reserved army of Misuari when he was the governor of MORO
*
Actually MNLF is the original Mindanao rebel force set up in 1969. It was founded when Nur Misuari, then a Professor at the University of the Philippines brought many of the Mindanao rebels groups into a single entity. This is as a result of the Jabidah Massacre, where a group of Mindanao Muslim fighters trained by the Philippine Military to be infiltrated into Sabah and wage a guerrilla war there to destabilize the state were killed by their trainers when they refused to carry on their mission.

The MILF meanwhile, split from the mainstream MNLF in 1977 when the MNLF accepted a semi-autonomous deal from the Philippine government. The main reason for this split is that the semi-autonomy deal did not fully recognize the rights of Muslims in Mindanao (The leader of the split group, Hashim Salamat was more of an Islamist, while Misuari was more nationalistic).

South Korea "Dokdo-class amphibious assault ship" catches fire at sea

Navy ship's engine room catches fire at sea, restoration underway

By Kim Eun-jung

SEOUL, Sept. 10 (Yonhap) -- The generator room of the Navy's 14,000-ton ship caught fire while the ship was sailing off the west coast of the Korean Peninsula Tuesday, causing a duty officer to suffer second-degree burns. Restoration work is currently underway.

A fire broke in the engine room of the Dokdo-class amphibious assault ship which was sailing near the western port of Gunsan around 10:45 a.m.

Crew members immediately put out the fire, but a 23-year-old petty officer first class, who was on duty in the engine room, got second-degree burns in the process of containing the blaze, according to Navy officers.

"Among two generators in the ship, the burned one broke down, and the other stopped after sea water flowed in during the process of extinguishing the fire," a Navy officer said. "The ship currently remains in the same spot. Repair works will continue late into the night."

Named after the easternmost islets of Dokdo in the East Sea, lhe lead ship in its class was built by Hanjin Heavy Industries

I don't think the MNLF have had other leaders besides Misuari. There may be sub-political or regional leaders, but I believe,as chairman, any policies of the MNLF comes from Misuari himself.

Also, any armed militant groups under the control of MNLF is also,in effect, controlled by Misuari. So 4,000 militants is a quite realistic figure.

I know la they are different. Since MILF is the one negotiated for autonomous region, they should be fighting MNLF as well alongside PAF.

I just don't get it with these Moro fighters. With all their "Macho" pictures with their gears & patriotic slogan but when they go into battle with the PAF all they think & could do is take as many civilians as hostages and use them as human shields. And this is not the first time they'd done that. doh.gif
