QUOTE(mrl @ Apr 4 2014, 06:33 PM) You can upgrade the RAM and the storage as you wish. Hmm, i see.. perhaps can add 1 more 4GB RAM, since got 2 slot i checked just now, maybe slightly lagging due to insufficient HDD space You can upgrade CPU on your own, if you can outsource a compatible CPU which is any IvyBridge PGA packaged CPU. (though IINM the cpu is already top tier CPU). You cannot upgrade to Haswell because of the pin and chipset compatibility. IINM GPU is soldered down, i might be wrong but at least it is non-upgradeable. So, the real upgrade you can do with it is just RAM and Storage. Thanks bro! |

Hi guys,
I'm currently using Y480 for around 4 years already.. When i tend to use my GPU (GT640M LE) to play any games / high graphic usage program, lappy tend to shutdown. Mainly due to overheat and can GT640M LE be upgraded to other GPU or similar? i searched online whether it is a MXM card but still cant, only know is PCI express 2.0 & 3.0 supported. QUOTE(tachlio @ Oct 2 2016, 08:40 AM) Google Y480 service manual, then DIY reapply thermal paste. (Depend on game, the temp may not drop as gaming demand is increase, hardware is age) Ahhh alright then!!! Thanks for the info savior!! GT640M is solder in, not up-gradable too bad then.. can't upgrade GPU |
