Maybe my unit affected because I did have one cloud storage software which was listed as one of the wireless adapters, hell broke loose after i uninstalled that. And also it seems that my wireless mouse also having some effect on the wireless traffic, can see a spike drop of the download speed when i wake up my mouse from sleep mode... And since I'm using SSD in the main SATA slot and the HDD caddy in the optical bay, I'm having problem with running video/music files from my HDD when on battery only, by random timing, the video/music will be halt and the player will seems like not responding, I do notice that whenever this happens, there will be a huge spike in the Memory 100 hard faults/sec inside the Resource Monitor. I do suspect that either the core or the south bridge on the motherboard is faulty but still didn't manage to catch the main culprit yet...

judging from the wireless mouse effect, maybe you got interference between mouse and wifi... try to change the channel of the wifi.

though there's a probability it's just a whole system problems but i dont expect it to be on the hardware side since you mentioned all hell broke loose after you uninstall the cloud storage software... easiest way to test, format... if it comes back good, means that software probably messed up your driver... else, it probably got to your hardware already.

alternatively, you probably can try to cleanly uninstall drivers and re-install every driver all over again...

Yeah, change from 1 to 6 and now seems better... While cloud storage software only cause the wireless adapter to become haywire, the video/music player problem was observed way before that. When i first got my laptop, i encountered this problem then traced back toward HDD, send to SC and they changed a new HHD for me. And now again the problem but not really the HDD problem as now only happens when i'm on battery only, previous HDD happens either on power supply or battery. So i suspect either the voltage supply or the south bridge connecting the SATA channel to the optical bay to be the main culprit, the only problem on identifying which is that the problem does happens at random and since those 2 are on board components so i cannot swap with new ones... And DAT wifi card, really damn weak. Use my handphone can still steal some bandwidth to browse when this laptop cannot access...

Think of reformatting the Win7 to see if it's a system problem but got lazy to reinstall all my software so not doing it at the moment...

BTW to any one update their Windows 8 Pro to Windows 8.1 Pro and get this error:
SecureBoot isn't configured properly
I got a solution can solve (only for Y480/Y580)
First u may download 5DCN87WW BIOS (mine one is from 5DCN40WW [Win 7 BIOS] previously) and flash this BIOS
(I'm not 100% sure that every machine will be flash successfully, mine is success, please do on ur risk)

after that ur laptop will be restarted, notice the message still there, it's normal since it still no complete yet.
now restart ur laptop and once it appear "Lenovo" logo press F2 continuously.
It will go inside the BIOS menu.
Inside BIOS, go "Security" -> "Restore Factory Keys", then "Exit"-> "Exit and Save Change"
if still din disappear, go back to BIOS and "Security" tab, but click "Reset to Setup Mode"-> then "Restore Factory Keys", then "Exit"-> "Exit and Save Change"

This should fix that problem, just update the new SecureBoot key for Win 8/8.1 in UEFI mode

If for Y400/Y500/Y410p/Y510p, since the BIOS preload and the updates is for Windows 8 already, so I think the BIOS got that kind of function too

Anyone facing incorrect resolution in game after updating to 8.1

For me it's no la, tried in NFS HT 2012

at first i encounter yellow screen for dota 2.. after that i try to reinstall the graphic card driver for window 8.1 which can be found in nvidia website.. then everything back to normal

I'm gonna say bye-bye to my beloved Y400 tomorrow

have to sell it to build full system PC & download (or upgrade?) to lighter laptop (ultrabook maybe)

I see...my resolution can't go higher than 1280x768 during gaming...will try to update the driver from Lenovo before reporting the result here.

Would like some confirmation from any Y580 user or any Y series user with the Qualcomm Atheros AR9485WB-EG Wifi card, for my Y580, the Wifi antenna cable connection is that the black one connected to the MAIN while the black with white shrink tube is connected to the ALT, can anyone confirm that this connections are same or only mine got swapped?

Guys does a Y410p suitable for 1080p gaming ?

Tried hooked up a 1080p monitor but got extreamly high GPU temp @ 92c even with all low @1080p Battlefield 3.. =O

Then i think it over heated because it shows black flickers.....hope i did not perma-damage my GPU

i just bought WD hdd 1tb my passport ultra external hdd
and my lenovo y580 cannot detect it(my computer shows nothing)
i did go to disk management,it actually detect but it doesnt show on my computer so i cannot open folder

weirdly the hdd works fine for other laptops(acer and toshiba netbook)
i did tried all the usb ports, usb 2.0 only show msj that i can transfer faster but still cannot detect.. so i go to lenovo website to update 3.0 usb driver..and updated it but still the same..
