You read that right: in just 10 years you can have your very own hand-made smartphone with the brand new weekly make-your-own-smartphone kit from Japanese mobile provider au! For anyone who’s a fan of weekly collect ‘em magazines (who isn’t?), tech, or wasting their money, then this is for you.

QUOTE
The build-your-own-smartphone kit will be published every week over the next 10 years, with each issue including one small part that can be put together to make one complete phone. Your phone will be complete in the year 2024, which is like, almost science-fiction territory, so you’re probably concerned that we will have all moved on to Google Glasses or VR headsets by then. Not to worry – this product is FUTURISTIC, and will definitely not go out of date, at least according to the ads…

QUOTE(dm101 @ Apr 1 2014, 10:13 PM)
The Carro Armato (armored vehicle) was Italian Army's designation for tanks from 1938 onwards. This would be followed by a letter and a series of numbers.

The letter would be either L, M or P meaning Light, Medium, and Heavy tank respectively. The numbers would follow the pattern of X/Y where X would be the weight in tonnes and Y the year of adoption

i.e. designation M13/40 means it is a Medium tank weighs 13 tonnes and was adopted in the year 1940
Though the M13/40 is classified as a Medium tank, at 13.5 tons it "sits" between/is heavier than the Japanase Light Tank Ha-Go (7.4 ton) but much lighter than Germany Medium tank Panzer III (23 ton)

The M13/40 tank had many grave shortcomings which severely hampered its effectiveness on the battlefield though  :thumbsd:

huh, that is easy to remember i'd say biggrin.gif
it's like the naming for german guns starting with size of shell, type of gun and barrel length
for example 75mm KwK 42 L/70 denotes the size of shell is 75mm, type of gun is tank gun (Kampfwagenkanone 42) and barrel length is 70 times the diameter of shell

anyone knows the number behind KwK, PaK or FlaK means? is it the year of design or adaptation?

ah thanks biggrin.gif
so my guess is true that the numbers behind kwk/pak/flak denote the years it was put into service
as for the four digits, i recall that eg vk36.01(h) denotes that it is an experimental design with min weight of 36 tonnes, ver 1 of the prototype, and of henschel design

with that, i am hoping that hetzer would be release before this series end. surely the diminutive size itself would be something fun to compared for scale with one of the largest tank destroyer that came out in war, the jagdtiger

correct me if i am wrong though

Here the comparison between them, those rotor blades will give some problem for those with limited space...

But I don't think it even pass the blueprint stage. The other contender would be the E-100 which basically a different hull with the same Maus turret (for the early production atleast), only left incompleted hull after the war end.

Heaviest that is ever produced, yes. That behemoth weights in at around 188 tonnes, current MBTs are around 70-ish tonnes the heaviest, IINM.

Yup. Surely a scaled Maus would be a sight to behold, let alone a real one. Produced two IINM, right? One with wooden mock turret.

Small but deadly, Hetzer is. Using an old Pz 38(t) converted into a tank destroyer, fitted with a 75mm L/48, it was quite small the crews have to cramp in the compartment laugh.gif

Would be a nice size comparison between it and Maus. Better yet, the Polish tankette tongue.gif

And Tiger I beat me to it on the weight but those heavy tanks in a grand scale or strategically a nightmare logistically as during WW2 those heavy tanks are using underpowered engine which make them very easy to break down in combat or even in transit, even the famous Tiger I broke down often and need to bring to workshop which is way behind the front line to get it running again. Also need to consider the terrain and road infrastructure since it will hinder their movement either because it too wide to fit on city roads or too heavy to get across a river by bridge.

I suggest watching this video. laugh.gif

If those megatanks were to be mass produced (consider that the cost is not counted in, which is unlikely), they would be more of a weapons of propagandas and to strike terror into the heart of the enemies.

Even the ones that made it into production, like Tiger I and Tiger II used engine similar to Panther, which makes the two heavy tanks seriously underpowered and plagued with mechanical failures, even more so on the Tiger II. Logistically, a single cost of Tiger I could be used to make around 4 StuG III IINM. Fuel guzzling, difficulties in traversing terrains due to weight, making a heavier tank would be a limiting factor in a battle.

But at least they inspire Tigerphobia when it was introduced laugh.gif in terms of firepower and protection they are good as well.

As for the scene from Girls un Panzer, we need Maus.
And Hetzer.
Oh CTC, please have Hetzer for our issues sad.gif

But then again after 1944, Germans don't have alot of choice anyway since they don't have the manpower to match Soviet and Allies forces so they have to take quality over quantity route and plus the lack of resources to properly train their crew just make it worse anyway.

Even to find 1/35 scale Maus kit is hard enough...

With constant bombardment and encrouchment from all sides, their resources is leaking day by day. The thing is, that way of thinking is still can be seen now in German automotive, produce a quality product as compared to quickly make plenty of cheap thing. Not saying that cheap is bad, just look at the abundance of M4 and T-34 as compared to even Panzer IV. But hey, at least their path leads to many breakthrough in designs such as the StG44, Me 262, V2 and the likes.

Not forgetting Karl, as promoted recently in WoT tongue.gif

As for Maus, there are alternative, but who wouldn't like to get their hands on a MYR 29.90 1/72 Maus? I know I would tongue.gif (I don't think the current size of the case would fit though)
