i got myself a new pair of neuton 225/45/17 tire to replace my old rear tires on friday.

last night, this happen:



it kinda broke my heart (new tire plus my body ache, original jack broken because i placed it on soft ground). so i just need to know. what could be the reason eh?

I think u can try to claim warranty? Even if they dont at least they will tell u what causes it.

You can check some of my posting over there. I have suggested other alternative brand for people asking for opinion on Neuton.
My friend's bad experience alone, this is not the first time I have seen such Neuton. Thanks God you're fine as its hard to imagine if this happened at very high speed.
Being a new tyre, it's look more like a manufacturer defect to me. Just look at the damaged line. Sharp object piercing does not cut this proper. Rim looks okay so acceptable driving speed when this occur (personal opinion unless the tyre shop arguments below apply ).
No warranty though as they will argue you driven the car on muddy road even though its just driven over a grass on the roadside during rainy day.
Other argument is prior to the damage, you may run that inner sidewall on potholes or rough side. Or suddenly swerve to the asphalt edge at high speed<<<Tyre shop's arguments point as usual.
I know most tyre shop will pump at least 240 or even 250kpa on new tyres. I usually pump higher kpa after run in period.

Wow...what kinda Neuton is this? I'm using neuton nt8000 so far very good & the best bang for buck I ever spend. Comfort & mid performance tire.

the most i was pushing it within the 36 hours timeframe is 110km/h. the mud was only there because when i felt that there is something wrong my wheel, i emergency parked my car in grassy area and it was raining a bit.

you're right. called the shop and their argument is exactly as what you have commented. sigh.

What's the manufacturing date on the tyre? Overdue maybe? Plus "what's the retail price on one of those?"

I Googled it and found it to be American tyre company so that reminds me of the infamous Firestone incident.

Well the first hit on Neuton tyres was Neuton Tyre USA so i presume it was USA.

i was a solid believer in nexen n8000 and up to today..i am still. i have shifted to d5 good year f1's because of a single fact - NEVER EVER SKIMP on tires for your precious car.


That's the only thing that holds the car and using cheap tires like neuton or ATR sport is just asking for trouble if u are a high speeder - ie 100kmh and above. there is no mesh on the sidewall for support and always...almost always the sidewall will give way

yeah, i must admit the "it is cheap and what can go wrong with a piece of rubber" sentiment got me last friday.

i'm opening this just to get comment on whether the cause for what happened is cheap tire and not manufacturer defect.

from the looks of it it seems that is is manufacturing defect. and that's the thing with cheaper tires, they may be prone to more defects/issues due to cheaper materials used, cheaper quality control etc

I suggest you go to consumer tribunal and lodge a case against the tyre shop claiming material defect and CC the letter to the mfg.

Consumer tribunal is heavily biased to consumer anyway so your odd of wining is very high

But be quick, you only got 7 days from date of purchase

I don't have the exact localize statistic but even the tofu sidewall Forceum is more reliable than the low range Neuton. Forceum become bulging and
flex like hell but not exploding like your case.
We know what to expect from tyre shops. Reason why I only used cheap tyres which is proven to survive during drift abuse. Even then, its still down to luck
but lesser gamble on proven brand.

Not recommended as too many same case happened on Neuton. Nexen N8000 is okay but not the lower range.
For those really tight on budget, can consider the noisy Achilles ATR Sports instead. Make sure to check the inner sidewall more often after 30k km.

anyway, my 2 days old continental cc5 come along with the new elantra also burst on 2nd day. all i did was cornering at 60km/h, masuk medium sized potholes, and wa lah, both left side tyre front and rear pecah

exact same damage like yours, only that mine was cut open on the outside
