you can use third party software like ipod agent to copy song and video out of you IPOD.

the sound quality of ipod depend on the earphone u use, the original earbug given by apple does give you the best sound quality ipod have to offer.

Yup, the iPod certainly pricey... Furthermore, it does not come with other features that competitors are offering (and at cheaper prices!), such as voice recorder and radio...

But despite these minor flaws, the iPod remains one heck of a cool gadget!

cons:
poor batt life,
scratcheable surface...
sound quality?? change a new earphone... improves it a lot... the ori buds are nice enuf for normal ears..
price?? erm.. rm1.5k is rather expensive... but... there are other means of getting it cheap...biggrin.gif
accs?? if u complain it is expensive.. trying finding 3rd party... besides...
the accessories are the best part of the ipod.. so many to choose frm..
it is like having a new toy wit ur old stuff...

well, it is cool. But then again, it does sync with what is arguably the best jukebox software out there: iTunes.

Ive tried everything from MusicMatch to Winamp and nothing comes close to the simplicity of iTunes.

It just works. Btw, 8hr+ batt life is ok laa.. how long do you listen in one sitting anyway?

Its easily scratched (mine looks like brushed metal now.. i dont use any covers) but unless you are dumb enough to put keys in your pocket (with your ipod), it shouldnt be that big a deal. Wit the nano its even easier to just slip it in your shirt pocket. IMO, covers ruin the design of the iPod.

Average battery life ~ close to neglegible, since you'll be plugging in to usb at least once a day. Besides, Apple encourages you to do so.

Easily scratched ~ which gadget doesn't? Get a case/protective. And you're not gonna use an ipod like swiss army knives rite?

So-so earphone ~ keyword: "bundled". Dont expect a beauty eh. Just change it to a better one whenever you can.

Cant copy music from ipod to pc ~ no problem(really). Use 3rd party software. Theres a lot of them out there.

No radio ~ with thousands of songs, radio is dead, literally.

Pricey ~ if you like it so much, you'll eventually buy it. Once you've owned it, you'll by whatever means justify it against the amount you pay.

"What? Only five buttons?" ~ Yes. Do you really expect a keyboard?

"I hate iTunes" ~ well then, i rest my case.

Oh wait, there's Anapod!

@clienut: yah, except if you have an iTMS account of the available countries, or use someone elses a/c, then you can buy the songs.

bro, everything has advantages and disadvantages, it is just the price that makes us malaysian whether to buy or not. ipod is not consider a richman accessories it is because we buy it so expensive in malaysia. imagine that i can buy 120pounds in england for ipod nano, yes it is in pound sterling, but if you work there for 1500pound a month, i dont feel it is expensive.

well, i would like to say that once you get your Ipod, no matter what video, photo, U2 special edition, nano, etc.. you'll love it and never feel regret to go back nor never think of getting a sony mp3 walkman! biggrin.gif

Anyone here owns a fourth gen? I was thinking of getting one. Currently using a Zen Micro. Nothing wrong with the micro, it's just that I can't live with the small capacity! tongue.gif

So anyway, about the fourth gen. I've read quite a fair number of reviews and oppinions. It really varies. Some ppl says it days the moment it reaches a year. Some says it's been two years and it's still up and running.

And the battery life. It's quoted to be 12 hours. A review tried it for 14 hours. While some users claim 8 hours at most. So this is starting to make me really see stars rclxub.gif

Do I have to send it back to apple to get the batts changed, or can I somehow open it up on my own? Oh, and what's the average price you guys pay to get the batts changed? Geejun has kindly told me via pm it cost abt RM 200. But I thought I'd ask you guys anyway. And I've bothered him enough blush.gif

Final question for now: What's the worst battery time you can get?

Thats the sad thing... The latest gadgets and iPods are available everywhere in Malaysia but too bad the price is prohibitive!

But one thing's for sure, i never regretted my investment in the mini... Best MP3 player i ever had (not forgetting the shortfalls also!)...

A 4th gen user here.. Just came back from trip up north.. 12 hrs.. battery life just nice.. The selection of accessories available here is not that much compared to what is actually available.. Price wise, both for the iPod n accessories sucks big time.. Just yesterday, saw the new iPod HiFi, retailing @RM1999.. shocking.. apart from that, I'm quite happy with overall performance.. I did consider getting Creative n iRiver..

If dead pixel, hopefully u r still on warranty, send back to Apple to get it rectified.. I saw replacement battery for sale at Apple Mid Valley.. price 200++.. not sure whether DIY or they do for u.. My battery life 12 hrs approximate.. but I took the necessary measures.. no equaliser, screen brightness minimum, less fast fwd.. not sure the performance on the color iPods.. mine monochrome 4th gen

Hey, the fourth item suits me! Interesting point here is that i tend to concentrate MORE on the road when i have my iPod playing music and headphones stuck to my ear... At least i won't be disturbed (back to the first item!) and can then focus concentration on the driving...

Anyway, the radio stations sometimes play sucky music so no choice but to turn on the Pod... biggrin.gif

Hey guys, I've a question. Didn't feel like there was a need to open a new thread, so I'm just gonna ask here. Hope y'all don't mind smile.gif

I just got my 4th gen today and after I registered it online, I checked the warranty status. It says that it was bought sometime in April 2005. The thing is, the set is supposed to be brand new. So my question is, how long do they take to update that I've only registered it today? Or is there something wrong with my set?

Second question is, there's like something on my screen. But it's on the INSIDE. Like a spec of dust. It's really annoying to see it there everytime I look at the screen. So is it possible to get them to fix it?

Thanks yeah smile.gif

ohmy.gif please get an adapter or itrip, don't drive with your ear stuffed.

had adviced my fren who use ipod while driving his motorbike. he argued against it, and i decide not to further the disagreement.
about a week later, he hit the back of a car, and broke his leg. while using ipod. rclxub.gif

for me, ipod headphone in your ear is another source of distraction.

You sure are judgmental. Why can't he/she be someone who actually enjoys music on the go? And I don't see how wearing an iPod is showing off, after all it's only a 400-dollar device, what's there to show off?

You sure are judgmental. Why can't he/she be someone who actually enjoys music on the go? And I don't see how wearing an iPod is showing off, after all it's only a 400-dollar device, what's there to show off?
*
dude, we are talking about the disadvantage of ipod, right?

as someone who owns an ipod, i could probably list all the advantages...
but again, the topic is about the disadvantages, right?

edit: i've decide to take out what i believe would escalate things.
y'all, have fun. this is only a forum. not a name-calling playground.

ohmy.gif  please get an adapter or itrip, don't drive with your ear stuffed.

had adviced my fren who use ipod while driving his motorbike. he argued against it, and i decide not to further the disagreement.
about a week later, he hit the back of a car, and broke his leg. while using ipod. rclxub.gif

for me, ipod headphone in your ear is another source of distraction.

i sounded like your mum, ehhh?  biggrin.gif
*
Hahaha, i know what u mean, buddy! laugh.gif

But seriously, even though i have my iPod stuck on my ears, i have the volume low enough for me to hear the surrounding noises even though the music is also being played... And seriously, my concentration increases on the road because of that (my mind is focused on the driving whilst listening to music, thereby reducing the need to look left-right instead)!

Hahaha, isn't Tampin the place which can be mentioned as either in NS or Malacca? Yup, i've been there before and just like what pizzaboy said, its a cramped but busy small town...

Wow, two persons with ipod in Tampin? One of them has to be u lah right, david? And its amazing that the smaller towns are also being swept by the wave of modern gadgets... Sooner or later, the whole of smaller towns like Klang or Kluang, Alor Setar or Kangar will be filled with lappie-carrying or iPod-listening ppl!

Yup , Tampin is half NS and half Malacca . Haha... I'm surprised tat many ppl know it , i tot its a place of the back of beyond , isolated place .

I'm quite keen to see tat there will be lappie carrying and ipod-listening ppl in Tampin . For this stage , iPod is still something Rare here. Haha..

Just tat most of the youngster here do not find ipod useful to them , they rather spend 2~3k to buy a brandy new handphone .

nyprinz83 , as i said , this is a small town , news can be spread all over the town at a rapid speed.

True true, many cellphones also come with mp3 playback, in addition to bluetooth, GPRS, 3G, and WiFi... The iPod only has MP3, so it loses out to the cellphone in many areas...

Isn't tampin the 3rd-largest town in NS, david?

Well , diffrent person have diffrent perspect for diffrent things . As for me , a 3315 is more than enough for me , but i dont find it enough to own a Creative MuVo 256 , tats y i changed to IPOD.

hmms... 3rd largest town? Not quite sure bout tat. But i dont think its a large town .
This town will nvr grow if all the oldster still remains . Reason for saying this , many big businesses in tampin collapsed , becoz the oldster's old fashion type of thinking here..

Example, if a shop sells a plate of Rice at RM 5 and tat is only for 1 person , Tat shop will not last long NO MATTER HOW NICE THE FOOD IS.

But the other shop who offers RM 5 food for 3 person will have a good business.

Bluesilver, mind introducing me him/her? Maybe we knew each other..hohoo

iPod doesn't have any bad things to me. It may be lacking a bit in features and the earphones aren't as good as you'd expect them to be but still it's great.
