QUOTE Today I'll stop my 3rd person perspective. I'm going to write a little bit more about what I do to help MacBU ship great software and provide some color around what's it's like to work on Mac software at Microsoft. Often when we have press events or special visits from our MVPs I'll give them a tour of the Mac Lab and explain what we do. They've always found it very interesting and so I thought I'd share a virtual tour of our Mac Lab. Let's get started .... http://davidweiss.blogspot.com/2006/04/tou...ts-mac-lab.html

When I was working in the US, the staff lounge had free canned drinks and a fridge that was restocked at breakfast and lunchtime with a selection of sandwiches and salads. People would help themselves and noone would take more than what they could eat.
I somehow don't think the same thing would work in Malaysia.
Kiasu-ism would mean that people here would rapidly deplete shared food for purely selfish consumption.
Sad, but true...

QUOTE(ezralimm @ Apr 23 2006, 12:57 PM) nah, malaysians are just not that well paid compared to them If you earn USD60k a year, you're not gonna fill yourself up on soft drinks and salad.. Perhaps there is a grain of truth to this. The average wage is indeed higher than the average in Malaysia. However, it goes further than what you are paid. It reflects more on our society's view on "shared property" versus "private property". Over here we have little concept of "shared property" being the responsiblility of the individual. Instead it becomes the responsiblility of the "organization" be in company or goverment. The individual simply seeks to enrich himself from the organization. Hence, "shared property" just does not work here. It's everyone for himself.

The shared property concept can only work if everyone in the organization is living comfortably. Graduates can look forward to a pay of what> under 2k a month? That is not comfortable.
Give free sandwiches and they will save lunch money.
