That's because the chemicals have already stuck to your cooling coil. Now all the air that pass thru it will carry the smell out your aircon vents.

If you are using the stock filter which is just a wire mesh, it's almost useless.

A few months ago Fubar20 organized a bulk for the paper cabin filter, which is good enough for most cases....

Anyway, In the morning try switching off your A/C, turn recirculation mode to outside air, open your windows slightly (not all they way until ppl can rompak you), turn the blower speed to maximum and drive for as long as you can until you reach office/college. Obviously, if you come up behind a garbage truck or trucks with hutan bakar coming out it's exhaust, revert back to recirculating interior air and close your windows. Do this for a few days and see if it improves.
