budget around there, and its like enhanced version of 5100?
*
Nah, not worth it to get a D5200 over the premium you have to pay.

My friend bought a D5100 + Tamron 17-50 non VC combo last week. Only costed him around 2.5k. Makes great photos and versatile.

I think its high time I send my camera for sensor cleaning again. The spots after f8 really killing my photos. Have you sent your D600 for cleaning before?

You either get D5100 or D7000 with a Tamron 17-50 non VC. Not worth it to get D5200 just for the extra megapixel that makes your life harder.

o ok...but i tot d7k can come with kit lens 15-105? isnt that better?@@"
*
The 18-55 or 18-105 that comes with either D5100 or D7000 has a varying aperture of f/3.5 to 5.6. It can still create great images but not as easily. For newbies going into photography, the 17-50 2.8(constant aperture) is a long term investment lens until one day you decided to go fullframe,

means for new ppl,its better to have fix aperture to play with then only slowly learn up on the more adv lens...
o..okie...
but i bought mine with the kit lens already lol...gonna read up and learn more from ppl here biggrin.gif

No no no, what I meant is its a better lens. Usually we prefer the use of a constant aperture lens both for the optical quality and ease of use. Especially to beginners it is much easier to use because you have 1 thing to care less about. A 2.8 lens can always go 5.6 and above if required, but a 5.6 can never go 2.8. The kit lens still make great photographs, not that its bad but soon you'll understand the limitation. Enjoy!

ISO explanation
base ISO is 100
+1 stop
ISO 200
+1 stop
ISO 400
+1 stop
ISO 800

every value between them is 1/3 (one third stop), same goes for your shutter and aperture speeds. They are all connected like a triangle.

For example, values below should give you similarly exposed photos:
1/100 f2.8 ISO100
1/100 f4.0 ISO200
1/100 f5.6 ISO400
1/200 f5.6 ISO800
1/200 f4.0 ISO400

+1 stop of ISO gives you +1 stop of light
-1 stop of shutter speed gives you -1 stop of light
-1 stop of aperture gives you -1 stop of light

P.S. correct me if I'm wrong

What do you guys think?
QUOTE(Ken Rockwell)
I just updated How to Become a Professional Photographer, and uncovered some new statistics:

In 2010, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics documents that the median pay for photographers is $29,130 per year, or $14 per hour. "Median" pay means that half of photographers make less than this. You'd make the same as a bus driver, day laborer, security guard or a local delivery route driver — and each of those jobs has ten times as many jobs available as there are for photographers.

To make more money, you're far better off as a personal trainer, bug sprayer, massage therapist or secretary, and there are forty times as many secretary jobs as there are for photographers!

Get a real job like a cop or fireman and make twice as much - and there are also ten times as many of those jobs. Try being a farmer, who also makes twice as much as a photographer, and there are ten times as many farmer jobs as photographer jobs. Most other real jobs, like electricians, do much better than photographers.

Honestly, its difficult to find a lower paying job than being a photographer, and since there are so few photographer jobs, good luck!

Why try to become a photographer for low pay when there are so few jobs, when there are twenty times as many jobs as a top level executive — and they pay over $101, 000 per year! Honestly, you're twenty times as likely to become a CEO, CFO or Senior Vice President as you are to find a photographer job, so get real and enjoy photography as a hobby.

Why Jobs in Photography Pay Poorly

Photography is Not a Profession. Anyone can call themselves a professional photographer. There are no licenses and not even a college degree — or even high school — required. Therefore, you're competing against everyone else with a camera who'll do the job for free just to get the publicity.

Digital killed pro photography. When everyone can do it themselves or get the neighbor's kid to do it for free, forget trying to charge for it unless you are both extraordinarily talented and a top-drawer sales and marketing guy

The FT1 adapter is only if I intend to mount Nikkor-F lenses right? Erm, the current and only lens I have now is the '1 NIKKOR VR 10-30mm f/3.5-5.6', is it a Nikkor-F lens(cause there's the f/3.5-5.6) ?
Say if were to get another set of lens, 1 NIKKOR 18.5mm f/1.8, for close-up shots of little figurines.. would i need the use of the FT1 adapter? Or the lens by itself could be attached to the J1?

To be honest, i pretty much just hold the shutter-button and "chik chak" - photo. I have near zero(ok, maybe it is zero) idea about lenses and kit. But i'm willing to learn now..please don't judge me ><"
*
Yes, all Nikon 1 lenses are compatible with all Nikkon 1 series cameras (provided the firmware is already updated).
