Greetings. I'm a SPM 2014 school leaver, received an offer to undergo studies to US under social science 2 years from now.
I want to know, is it 'safe' that i study law in US or would i face difficulties of practicing it back in Malaysia? |

QUOTE(chiahau @ May 14 2015, 08:43 AM) IIRC, JDs are not recognized here So, I still be able to study in US for a law degree, but more effort to try to practice it in M'sia? A person would need to be called up by the State's Bar and convert it to equivalent here What do you mean by 'convert it to equivalent here'? |

QUOTE(qazhang @ May 13 2015, 05:19 PM) Having US law degree is a bit different. Go through the first few posts in this thread. If u meant by the posts from the admin, ive went through it all, and i cant see any light on whether I can practice law in Malaysia with a US degree. Not only that, US is not even listed in the recognised law degree It should be there explaining how one could get admitted to the bar. Please, anyone, Shed a light to my clouded sight. |

QUOTE(chiahau @ May 14 2015, 07:02 PM) As long as you score well in your LSATs and manage to get a reputable university to accept you ( Think Stanford, University of Chicago since Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Brown and etc are damn hard to get into unless you are super genius and know the right people ) Where did you refer to come up with that info? Not being rude or anything, up till now, I dont see any evidence that studying Law in US could bring me to practice Law in Malaysia. And to be called up to the Bar without CLP, you must be called up to Bar somewhere else in order for them to allow you to practice it in M'sia. |

QUOTE(chiahau @ May 14 2015, 08:44 PM) As I said, the closest chance you have would be have the state's bar exam to be recognized as equivalent to Malaysian bar and be allowed by the board to practice in Malaysia. oh i get it. Called to a Bar, then theres a chance to practice Law in Malaysia. Oh well, a chance is still a chance, no matter how small..It's a slim chance but nevertheless, it's a chance still. It's all easily available if you bother to contact LPQB and ask them directly. They are the one most qualified to give you an affirmative yes or no. Done that, no reply yet. Nevermind, still have my hopes up. |

QUOTE(S_SienZ @ May 18 2015, 10:47 AM) Why would you want to study law of all things in the US though? Different legal system and it takes more years since its a post-graduate degree. It's worth it for them because lawyers get paid very well over there. To invest that much to come back to the relative peanuts they pay here is probably the worst decision ever. I guess you did not read my initial post. I'm sponsored to study in US, not PaMa sponsorship. I made the decision to study Law before I know I'm sponsored. Hence, the dilemma. Hence, asking for enlightenment here. Please dont treat me like a brat that makes hasty decisions, i got enough of it from other site when i simply ask for a lil' guide. But thanks anyway, for the 'worst decision' comment This post has been edited by mia_luvlifes: May 18 2015, 03:41 PM |

QUOTE(redeemer @ May 18 2015, 07:35 PM) I dont think she has a choice though, think:u got a jpa mara offer to study in US,well lots of things are already being sponsored up to ur degree later, why would anyone wants to forgo the chance, well yeah she can do in local uni but an opportunity like that doesnt come easily.wait a question for the person who get the scholarship,is this the jpa mara scholarship because if it is,law is under social science, how are u so sure u can secure a place for law?or u can pick is it,btw u should go for it. Yes its the JPA-Mara, and no, its not a sure. Actually, Im not that sure anyway for we have neither meet nor contact (a tell-tell to those who suggested negotiation) the sponsored organisation spokesperson at all. |
