Just for discussion ar

Talking about subsidy rationalisation...

Why can't they give the subsidy via tax credit/rebate? That would ensure that only the deserving gets to enjoy the fuel subsidy, the rich have to pay full price. Not that difficult to implement, right?

I dunno if it is intentional by the government or not... but my friend pointed out a very good point about the foreign workers minimum pay:
"If hiring foreign workers is more expensive than hiring local workers, employers will opt to hire local workers and in turn this will create more job opportunities for the lower class, increasing our population's buying power and in turn benefit our own economy."
*
1. Pay
2. Work condition (safety & health)

Make it difficult/expensive to hire foreigners, then companies would be compelled to improve the above. Long-term win-win for the country.

Anyone holding DLADY here?

Divvy yield based on last 2012 financial year is very rich, 5.6%. But their divvy payout is somewhat inconsistent.

50 sen x 2 per annum is almost fixed, but that's only 2%+ yield

It's (50 sen + 80 sen) x 2 last year. But it's > 90% of FCF, so probably not sustainable.

Anyway, I am holding mine, for now.
*
EPS is only 190+ sen, so payout of (50+80)x2 is absolutely not sustainable

If we assume 90% payout, 190 x 90% = 170

1.7/47 current price = 3.6%

More or less around Nestle's DY. But Nestle's product portfolio is more formidable

I observe two schools of thoughts when it comes to counting return/gain:

(A) deduct dividend from cost
(B) count dividend towards return

I think it's OK to use one OR the other, but not both. And, for method A, only deduct dividend of the first year, not the subsequent year.

Just my 2 sen  smile.gif
*
My worksheet got 2 performance measures:

(1) IRR - takes into account ALL CASH FLOWS, as such dividend is taken into account
(2) Price movement - only capital transactions (buys, sales, capital repayments) are taken into account in calculating cost per share vs market price per share

Let's put it another way, treat as if you are doing a business. Well, this is also how we calculate cost in accounting...

- Cost is the total sum of the amount that u put in to acquire an asset
- Cost will be reduced by part disposal of the asset (e.g. u acquired an office building, and u sold off a few units/lots)
- Rental income WILL NOT reduce your cost, they are income, to be reported as part of your P&L
- When the asset appreciates in value, u revalue it upwards and the difference recognised in a Revaluation Reserve

Applying this principle to share investment accounting, you should treat dividends as income, and not to reduce your cost.

For your information, every asset management/ mutual fund company is using the dividend deduction method, cause dividend = money.
*
No. I just looked at my mutual fund financial statements and my company-engaged external fund manager's monthly report.

Look at accounting policies B (page 14) & H (page 16)

I can recommend two dividend yielding stocks to you that is anti gravity. One is Classic Scenic and the other is PJ Dev. I have been monitoring these two stocks since year 2009. For Classic Scenic, the boss is a very good friend of my father in law and they are not stingy in giving dividend, at least 50% will be giving out as dividend every year. For PJ Dev, every year, they constantly give 5 cents dividend continuously since few years ago. And, for the recent rally, both stocks haven't move much.

All dividend stocks all overbought... since the price hike substantially.. the dividend all become very small already. Not a good time to hunt dividend stocks...but a good time to hunt growth stocks.  laugh.gif

You want to ignore fluctuations, DL, Nestle & UTP comes to mind but these are all not cheap..
