Hi Guys,

I have not really been active as much as I would like in this thread, but I have some questions to ask with regards to Mobile Odin.

Let's say that after updating my firmware with PC Odin, I then rooted my phone using Chainfire's Auto Root. As a result, I will be left with stock recovery. I read Uncle Benny's posts about overcoming this disadvantage of having stock recovery by making use of Mobile Odin to flash the TWRP img.tar file.

My questions are, are you only limited to flashing TWRP with the img.tar file, or can you still install TWRP if you downloaded the .zip file?

I know in Mobile Odin, there are 2 'options' to open the file. 'OTA/Update ZIP' and 'Open File'. Based on common sense (hahaha), the img.tar file needs to be opened using the 'Open File' option, while the .zip file needs to be opened using the 'OTA/Update ZIP' option. What I did for mine is that I chose the 'OTA/Update ZIP' option and chose the TWRP zip file that I downloaded, and install from there.

It works, but I noticed my Mobile Odin will be 'gone' after the phone reboots. By gone, it means that it's not showing as 'Mobile Odin' in my applications drawer, but it is showing as 'eu.chainfire.somethingsomething' with a green Android icon hahaha. This is usually no issue for me, since I'll just restore my Mobile Odin via Titanium Backup.

However, to set my mind at ease, I need to ask about the 'Everroot' section inside Mobile Odin. If you are only installing a .zip file like this TWRP, do you tick all 3 options under 'Everroot'?

Based on Dr Ketan's guide, you do not have to choose 'Inject Mobile Odin', so I am wondering if there are implications in selecting all 3 choices under Everroot, or leaving the last option (Inject Mobile Odin) unchecked?

Sorry for the long post. I just wanted to be as specific as I can (>_<)

I normally use Mobile Odin to ONLY flash rom files ( in tar format), modem files ( modem.bin format), recovery files ( img format) , kernel ( tar format). I always extract the zip files first to these formats and copy it to phone internal memory or external Sdcatd. Flashing directly the zip file is a , sorry to say "lazy man" method and sometimes will bring funny results and especially with flashing kernels/modem can soft brick your phone
You select only "Inject Mobile Odin" and "Ever-root ( to maintain root) only when you want to flash rom. It is not necessary for flashing any other stuffs
It is a good practice though to only select wipe dalvik cache flashing other stuffs besides rom. For rom flashing - it is your choice whether you want to select wipe data ; select wipe dalvik cache is recommended

Thank you so much for this! I will never again use the 'lazy man' method of just flashing the zip files directly haha.

Uncle Benny, after you flashed Chainfire's auto root, you used Mobile Odin to install TWRP. When you flashed TWRP, did you choose any of the selections under 'Everroot', or did you just leave everything un-checked?

Ok, with help from joytest, I managed to change my modem from DXDLK5 to UBDMB1. I ran a speed test with it, and this is the result:

This is the first time I'm getting this kind of speed at home. Although I wonder how some of our users here (alex, if I'm not mistaken) manage to get close to 12Mbps. However, I notice that the connection fluctuates between H and H+, and this sometimes causes delays in receiving messages on my WhatsApp. I will always have to update my Twitter to utilize the data, then only the delayed messages will be received =/

The speed will depend on your location. I can get 10Mbps at pantai dalam area for example.

Pantai Dalam, that's near Kerinchi right? So in a way, it's also near Bangsar South. That's where I work at. Maxis' 3G reception is bad in my office though, straight away the connection will turn to 'E'. However, as soon as I go to the lobby, it'll go up to H+ again.

I do notice though that when there are not many people in the office, I will get H+. That's just plain weird haha.

Depend on location n telco
I am on maxis. At home I get 1500 to 4000kbps n it varies everytime. In town 4000 to 8000 kbps n in certain areas 10000kbps. In KL n JB I have even hit 17000kbps!! but doesnt last long n drop back to 10000 to 12000

I'm on Maxis too, and being in TTDI, I thought the reception should be better haha.

That's why I said my next phone must come with LTE. smile.gif

Also, that kind of speed is a little impossible to be achieved via mobile phones haha.

Ever wanted to take a photo of a slide at a presentation but you’re sitting too far away, or at a weird angle, ruining your photo? Well, ArcNote is here to help. ArcNote is a new Android app from ArcSoft that will allow you to take snaps of presentations slides or large screens and the app will help convert the picture you have taken into a nicely formatted slide for your keepsake. Have a look at some of the screens below to get an idea of how nifty this app can be.

This is pretty nifty. This is going to be very useful in meetings.

Thanks for this!
