er.. it actually depends on what you're connecting it to in terms of wifi. for instance, if your end point devices support only wireless-b/g/n, it will still stay at that speed. to me i think it's a good idea to invest a bit more for the network infrastructure (we don't buy network switches/wifi ap very often), and set it up properly to cater for your needs.

Okay. I guess I will PM you about this. Lest we go off topic

Hmm, sadly the intel 7260 is only double stream >.< i'll get it in a heartbeat but alas it is the same capability as broadcom that came with AW17 (wireless double streaming AC).

Does AC really improve range? from my read up it does not. From my testing my old 3 stream wifi-N intel 6300 has better range cry.gif

p/s: AW17 Broadcom AC is having trouble with most wireless router (my belkin is having severe timeout problem, my inlaw's basic streamyx router got no timeout problem but latency is 2ms average by pinging). Probably due to most routers are not upgraded with the latest firmware yet  vmad.gif thinking of getting asus ac68u or ac56u when it is available...
*
What do you mean by the Broadcom AC is having trouble with most wireless router? Cause my incoming AW17 is equipped with the Broadcom card.

And is it compatible with the AC66u? Cause that's what I am using now.

I think AC66u will work flawlessly, can't find any review that said the AW17 broadcom wireless is bad. most of the router im connected with is wifi N if not g... and is old (if not very old, most are 3yrs++) and never had firmware update, so you need not to worry.

broadcom works well with AC66U if im not mistaken, been checking up AC66U then found out about 68U and 56U which will come out this month.

*
Shit I just got my ac66u a week ago. shit.

If I were to reformat my Alienware AW17, as it is arriving with the 750GB HDD and I will be installing my SSD as a C drive.
Would I be able to restore the Alienware to how it was when the system arrives? For example the Alienware wallpapers and themes and stuff like that? Can all this be found in the Alienware resource CD?

I posted a reply to someone here about this before. When the laptop arrives, upon 1st boot up, use alienrespawn to create a recovery image, either on a USB or DVDs. This will create a factory image of the system and u can use this to restore after u installed ur drives.
*
Thanks for the reply. Sent you a PM.

My other question would be, I am going to be upgrading my graphics card from GTX770m to a GTX780m bought from upgradeyourlaptop on eBay. Does anyone know whether for the AW17 the 780m would be plug and play or it has to be flashed with a VBIOS or whatever?
Upgrade your laptop did send me a VBIOS for the card. But that was because I was initially planning to put the card inside my old M17x R4 which was using the 6xx series GPU's.
so now I am wondering if the AW17 would be fine with just plug and play and need no modifications as it is already running on the 7xx series cards.

The amount of inconsistencies in your facts is worryingly high. In your post here you said that you sold your M14 and then purchased a G75vx. But in your post from the thread "WTS awesome alienware m17xr4 gtx 680m, 5.5k promo price dropped" you said this:

QUOTE(Unseen83 @ Jul 24 2013, 05:55 PM)
i work for gov... and bonus not yet say will be pay or not have wait news TV.. sad.gif  and got G75vx with me at moment and M14xr2... trying to sell any of that to buy this tongue.gif lol

Here is a link for you in case you forgot since you're busy shelling out different stories in different threads.

Oh yea, and you forgot to mention that you were bidding for a M17xR4 in between too? Although you go on every thread to bash Alienware and to run people who buys Alienware down that its the most useless thing since the invention of common sense?
And this is my last reply to you as you're obviously trolling. So have fun.

Well, it's been awhile...  tongue.gif

Just wanna ask around and see if you guys know where to get a battery for the M15x model.

Part of the battery cells died off I think, it's barely charging.  cry.gif

I bought my battery from Amazon from a seller named LaptopBatteryExpress.

Dont worry, once its shipped, it won't be long till you get a text saying that it will be delivered. The order status doesn't really move once the status is 'in transit'. Heck, mine is still 'in transit'. So no worries, you'll get it soon smile.gif

Yeapp, But I already have the GTX780m on hand with me; along with these babies that are going in to the AW17 (Crucial 960GB SSD x2, Transcend 512GB SSD, Crucial Balistix Sports 1866 1.35V RAM, ODD Caddy for 750GB 7200 RPM HDD) When I have all this in then I will run some benchmarks wink.gif smile.gif

And I am typing on the AW17 keyboard now and its so much nicer than the M17x R4 and R3. heh.

PS. For the guys that missed it, the AW17 unboxing pictures are in the previous page (78)

Yeapp. 4 slots.

QUOTE(raymondtong94 @ Aug 19 2013, 04:56 PM)
how much have you invested for your Alienware?
*
AW17 with GTX770M - Rm9800
GTX780M - Rm2400
Crucial 960GB SSD - RM1899 x2 -RM3799
Crucial Balistix RAMs - RM1200
Transcend 512GB SSD - Rm1550

Rm18,750 there bouts?

Not to mention I am having Illegear perform the installation for me and they charge for their services too. Think their bill would be northwards of Rm350 including screen calibration.
And also as you can see in the picture that I also bought Crosair Vengeance RAM's by mistake which I later found out that are not compatible and hence have to sell it off. And selling it at a very good price too so I lose quite alot there also sad.gif

The 512GB SSD will be the C drive.
The 960GBx2 will be set in RAID0 configuration and they will be used for keeping my lossless audio files in WAV format. As you can see in my signature, my main passion and hobby is audio. I have been a long time audiophile. The SSD's would be actually utilised for storage and playback of the lossless audio files that I have extracted from a CD. Also in my signature I list the player and the software that I use (JPLAY & jRIVER)

Here is a thread from an audiophile forum regarding the benefits in terms of sound when an SSD is used compared to a HDD.

aw17 has 2x hdd bays, 1x odd that can be converted using hdd caddy to hold hdd/ssd, and 1x msata slot. why don't you put your OS in msata?
*
QUOTE(Aura @ Aug 19 2013, 05:49 PM)
I'm also wondering the same thing. What will happen to that poor msata drive?  biggrin.gif
*
I will be removing the MSATA and will be placing the 750GB HDD in its place, I need a HDD too as the SSD's have their Read/Write lifespan. So I can use the HDD for more vigorous everyday use. smile.gif

And the 64GB MSATA will be up for sale, as well as the BluRay drive. So if anyone is interested........... tongue.gif

QUOTE(horns @ Aug 19 2013, 07:51 PM)
i think you should double check this part about putting the 750gb hdd in place of the msata sdd. the form factors are different (the connectors are also different). even if you can connect the hdd with msata slot (say you have a special adapter for this), i don't think the hdd will fit.

when i saw your purchases, i thought you are gonna make a raid0 with the two hdd bays, put the 512gb ssd in the hdd caddy, and installed the OS only in your stock msata ssd (which is quite small the size imo, but it can be done).

*
I don't know though cause I have not seen the inside.
But the trusted boys over at Illegear told me that Alienware actually has 4HDD Slots including the caddy from the ODD. the MSATA slot unlike the previous AW's were designed to fit HDD's.

ah.. good to know that! smile.gif

edit: yeah i have checked the specifications at dell (http://www.dell.com/support/Manuals/us/en/19/Product/alienware-17). it's stated that the msata slot is indeed for minicard form factor. (i guess the illegear guys know better smile.gif).

But thanks for the heads up though! smile.gif icon_rolleyes.gif
