now you know why I didn't wanted 770M hehe. But off course 660M and 770M, thr will be a lot of difference smile.gif
And still 780M is better but just slightly better than 680M. I think people with 680M should stick with 680M and wait for 880M or 990M.

I remember your R4 had 660M and now you're using 780M, for sure thr is a lot of difference in performance overall.
*
yup.. thats the review i've been reading says... 680 to 770 is not worth it... but.. 660 to 770 drool.gif
and initally i wanna got for the aw14 with 765.... but got slight problem with my order... so i cancel..
and go for a m17xr4 with the lowest spec... then upgrade slowly... hehehe... ram done and gpu done... now got to save for ssd...

hahaha... thanks bro... but now have to wait 2-3 month to recover from today's damage..

i have been benchmarking all day... it seems that i score less on this 770m than the 660m

here is my 660m 3dmark 11 score. let just see the ice storm result..
http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/1132210
it is: 79934

my 770m 3dmark 11
http://www.3dmark.com/is/819932
it is: 43967 only...3dmark 11 detect it as generic graphic card....not 770m

this my screenshot of MSI afterburner, hwinfo showing it detect as gtx770m and the rams and processor all correct

i suspect my charger cant cope with the gtx770m power hunger...
thats why my battery is not charging.. and during intense benchmark.. my gpu card didnt perform...

right now my charger is only 180w.. eventhough i check the TDP wattage for 660m and 770m is the same 75w... but after googling around.. i think that is my problem..

and oh, 1 question... if upgradig to 32gb 1866 ram from 6gb 1600 also cause power shortage?

thank you

i check with dell webpage... for aw17,
option with 765m charger is 180w
option with 770m (joshua's spec) charger is 240w..

so yeah... i need a 240w charger...

mansooriqbal your m17xr4 tgx680m use which charger eh?

er i have no idea how to replace the msata in your aw 14. as for a clean install, i did that to the r4 already (in one of the plextor m5p currently). no issue.

my process is simple:

1. back up the tokens using advanced tokens manager; this is to be used to restore activations after a clean install;
2. grab the drivers from dell;
3. set up the bios properly (i have w8 pro; so i need to disable secureboot and enable csm boot);
4. created a uefi-aware usb install media (just extract the contents of the w8 iso into fat32-formatted usb stick);
5. perform install; defaults are fine;
6. install drivers;
7. restore activation tokens.

note that it's a clean install, so you don't have any oem branding.

if you are not comfortable with this i think you can still use alienrespawn instead?

thanks bro your guide is good..... im prepping my m17xr4 for ssd... this weekend will work on it...can follow your guide..ehehehe

Hey question,

I have done everything I believe on my M17X R3 but I still get blue screen from running aa certain game.

What are the chances that it could be a faulty motherboard and gpu?

Mind you this laptop is about or close to 2 years old only...
Just that this game it blue screens

need an expert to answer that... but......

burn, baby, burn@!

although some sources said this will not have much impact to the market (that factory was said to be responsible for packaging only, not production), but suppliers like Samsung have started to act up (temporarily stop providing dram and nand pricing. maybe they are making adjustments now) :/
*
usd going up... factory catch on fire... yes... rams and ssd price are going up...
