uh? there are changes but not much. it's better not to upgrade i think. (i am used to w8; so it's fine to me)

things that i know:
1. wei is gone;
2. now poweroff function can be accessed via win+x menu;
3. there is the start button that let you navigate between metro and desktop (well, it's kind of pointless to me because it's just the same as you pressing the win key);
4. the built-in backup is also gone.

still new in 8.1 so not much i can say about this.

You should add :

5 : Buggy
6 : Horrible!

Going to stay away 8.1 for a while.

Did you guys upgrade to the latest Windows 8.1? Mine comes pre-loaded with Windows 8 SL. So I might just get the standard Windows 8.1 rather than Windows 8.1 Pro, right?

yes; if you have w8 sl, then you get w8.1 sl. it's not like the previous deal that we could upgrade it from w7 hp to w8 pro with MYR 50.00.

Any big difference between Windows 8.1 SL and Windows 8.1 Pro rather than remote desktop features? @horns

w8.1 sl is intended for home use, with limited features. pro version is more business oriented (more features to make life easier in business environment) for instance, you can not do vhd boot (virtualized environment) in w8.1 sl; you do not have gpedit.msc in w8.1 sl (i use it to harden the system); you cannot join domain in w8.1 sl; etc.

you can read some of these at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/ent...re/default.aspx

The idea is that ssd is speedy, while hdd is slow in terms of disk access. However hdd has the advantage of storage size (much more cheaper than standard ssd). One way to have a speedy system that has both the speed of ssd and much larger storage size of hdd is to have a small ssd set up to cache certain files commonly accessed from hdd (os,apps) to boost the access speed of each of the components. The outcome is a more speedier system (than conventional hdd setup), with large storage space.

Its like hybrid ssh, but much more flexible.
