but Sata 3 is better right smile.gif I dunno I still prefer a full 2.5 inch ssd over Msata. I wonder if the performance out of benchmarks in real usage, is it much noticeable?

Yeah sata 3 is faster (6gbps vs 3gbps) Its no wonder i feel r4 has a slower boot with msata ssd biggrin.gif

The wei score of plextor msata ssd is 7.8 when it is sata2; for sata 3 its 8.2 max.

However for common usage, you dont feel the difference. At least i dont feel anything significant once i am in windows.

So the ports in a m17x r4 are 2 sata 3 (hdd bays) and 2 sata 2 (odd and msata)

yeah you can put a lot of storage in R4 smile.gif

I still have my CD drive in, I don't really need ODD on R4. On Asus G55VW I needed an ODD. Rightnow intel 520 240GB + WD blue scorpio 1TB is good enough for me. Plus I got an external WD my passport 2TB as well smile.gif

for zenbook 128GB is more than enough hehe. I am thinking on investing on cloud storage later on. Probably after 2 years... hmm.

true; all my 4 ports in my r4's are filled up now. yeah for storage i still think 1tb hdd is good enough (in odd).

if i ever needed the odd (well, if i needed it), i just use a sata-to-sata connector. to be honest, i never used the dvdrom for years.

Guys,

I'm reformatting my Alienware 14 from Windows 8 to Windows 7. I've prepared a bootable USB drive containing the Win7 installer. I've change the boot option to USB in the F12 Menu. Once the process starts, the installer can't detect my hard disk to proceed with the installation.

Any ideas? I googled around and they says I need to check if the PC detects my HD.

EDIT:

Managed to view the hard disk after changing one of the settings inside BIOS to AHA (or something, I can't remember haha)

Another issue I encounter after formatting. I think it's regarding the MSATA thingy, but I'm not sure. Anybody can help me?

What problem are u having right now? Unable to enable RST? If that's the case, go into your BIOS and check whether it is on RAID or not. It must be on RAID in order to use RST.

Okay, I've changed the SATA mode to RAID. But the laptop now is in a loop when I start. It will shows Starting Windows and then restart.

A menu appear before the loading screen which ask me if I want to configure something "utility" by pushing Ctrl + I.

Here is the screenshot of the menu :

Follow the instructions guide here -> http://www.dell.com/support/troubleshootin...hs&docid=564442

Bear in mind that this needs an OS reinstall because ur current system is not on RAID at all. Backup everything before proceeding.

I'll attach the forum thread link here just in case u need it -> http://en.community.dell.com/owners-club/a...t/19510380.aspx
