Hi, I am currently studying in INTI subang for AUP, and this is my first semester. ( A short sem since it was a special intake) So here is my questions.

My major - engineering, anyone has any idea for which University in US or Canada will be better for my major ?

I am a girl and i picked mechanical engineering, should I stay or change it to other kinds of engineering ?

US's uni or Canada 's uni is better ?

Which state in US where the living cost is low?

And is that hard to get CGPA 3.5 and above ? ohmy.gif

I will answer the last question.

Is it hard to get 3.5 and above??

Simple as ABC and 123.

You just need to study , don' play around. When it is the time to study you study, when it it time for playing, you play.

Don't get these two things mixed up.

Do not study hard.

You  must study VERY VERY hard

Now it is my second week and im studying almost everyday,
and of course i had some fun too.
But im still worry. ><
May I know how does the final examinations standards like ?

I dont know.

The thing is if you want to know more about those standards ask your lecturer. It is better.

Don't be afraid to ask them.

Rugi kalau tak tanya.

IT will be tougher when you start studying overseas. Just wait for it.

alright i will try. flex.gif flex.gif

Well, I believe that in both of these countries, tertiary education is held to a certain standard, so you're going to get a certain amount of quality in your education whichever country you go to. I'm currently based in the states though, so I'll say I'm more biased towards the states.

Honestly, I don't see why being a girl should affect your choice of engineering. Even if there are less girls in mechanical, it doesn't mean that you can't pursue it.

As for the cost of living, like what cagedbird has said, avoid the big cities. There are quite a few academic institutions based in small towns, and are basically college towns, which have a much lower cost of living than those in the big cities. But based upon personal opinion, I would say that California is generally an expensive state to stay in.

And for the 3.5 CGPA, if you desire that, you'd have to work for that, meaning, stay on top of your work, do the assigned readings, go talk to your professors and TA's for help if you need it. Professor's are generally rather open to being asked questions, and actually like it if you do so here (for the most part).

Thanks for your answer ! biggrin.gif
Alright, I wanted to go Georgia Tech, wondering is that possible.

I will, Thank you so much ! smile.gif

If you are enrolled in a top tier university like Ivy leagues and etc, don't expect to get 3,5 for most of the time.

It's not easy and very challenging to maintain an average pointer of 3,5 in the States, esp in a good university as such.

Standards are tight and you won't get any benefit of doubt much most of the time.

But if you are good, I'm sure you could do well there. The education system abroad is rather more refined, compared to ours.

Hello, I was a student doing the American Degree Transfer Program at Taylor's University. I've commenced last year, fall 2012 and I'm currently waiting to further my studies to Canada! smile.gif  I'm going to study at Carleton University which is located in Ottawa. The living cost and the tuition fees at Canada is a lot cheaper than the USA. Studying engineering in both Canada and USA are equivalently good. I recommend you Georgia Tech University if you want to pursue your engineering studies at the US and University of Toronto if you want to study at Canada.

Don't worry about being able to achieve 3.5 and above in INTI. It's easy, c'on? If you put your heart into your studies, I'm sure you can get more than a 3.5. I've never got a 3.0 and above during my studies at Taylor's though. Taylor's standards are a lot higher compare to INTI, our passing grade is 72% and above.

Anyways, all the best! Mechanical engineering is a really good major smile.gif  I'm an Economics major myself  nod.gif
*
INTI 's passing mark has recently upgraded to about 65% if im not mistaken.
I was planning to go Georgia Tech University. University of Toronto is a great university too ! ^^
Is the final exam for each semester hard ?
And they told me when you are applying university from US or Canada,
there will be someone from that uni what would interview you,
did you went through that ? How was it ? >3<

And I wonder would that be hard if ever I wanted to apply scholarship in US or Canada University ?

I think Universities in the US and Canada are equally good, though I like US more

Avoid some big cities, like Chicago, NY, LA, SF, Cali, suburban area might be cheaper
*
I like US more too, but the living cost and tuition fees in Canada is much more cheaper compare to US.
So it made me feel kinda hard to decide.

Alright, Thank you so much for the infomations ! icon_rolleyes.gif

To get into University of Toronto, you need at least a 3.5 and above CGPA. As for Georgia Tech University. I have a lot of engineering friends from Taylor's studying there smile.gif

Our final exam for each semester consist of 30%. Depending on the lecturers. From experience, final exams are hard so I advice you to do better in your mid terms, projects and quizzes! biggrin.gif

No interview needed, dont worry. Applying for a scholarship is possible! Just check with the requirements for the scholarship of the university you opt to apply for. However I warn you, its highly competitive. Though just give it a chance, no harm trying right? smile.gif

Good luck with your studies, I'm willing to help if you have anymore questions! I still think it's a better idea if you search for your university placement counsellor at INTI, every ADP program should have one, just like Taylors!
*
Alright. wink.gif
Oh really ?
Do you mind to help me ask them who study in Georgia Tech University how s the uni standard over there ? >3<
Okayy! biggrin.gif I am trying my best, even a small quiz i study like everyday. rclxub.gif
Yeap agree. wink.gif
Okay thats what I am going to do on my next sem. smile.gif

I study in Canada for a few years. All State unis are pretty decent. U of Alberta, U of Calgary, U of British Coloumbia, Simon Fraser U. U of Saskatchewan bla bla bla  , Take a look at a Canadian Map . remember , the more inland you go the cheaper is the school fees and living expenses . and the harsher the winter.
*
Okay,
If compare the educations between US and Canada ?

Oh, out of curiosity, why do you prefer Georgia Tech? Any other universities that you're planning on applying for?

I'd say that it's a very achievable goal actually.

Oh, and quite a lot of unis don't require interviews, except for ones like MIT. I didn't require one when I applied for unis in the states.

I'm guessing that you're going to be transferring in though? I'm not too sure about the procedures for that, I went to the states as a freshman.
*
Because the ranking of Georgia Tech is quite high and it is also consider a good uni for engineering and moreover the living cost is cheaper. There are a list of uni that i wish to get in. Georgia tech is one of them. smile.gif

Why is that so ?

Hmm .. not really, it is only my first semester. =X
Really ? Then how many years does it takes for you to graduate ?
I though we will be consider as transfer student after transfering..

No, To pass.. you need at to get at least C . So that ur credit hours can be transfer. To get a C , the passing rate is 55% if i'm not mistaken. But not all subjects can be transfer with a C since u are majoring in engineering .Got to get at least B+ as what i heard from my engineering friends.
*
Oh really ? Can you give me the range of the marks for those grades ? >3<
Thank you so much for the information. biggrin.gif

Is final in INTI hard ?
This semester I have Psychology and English compo 1.

Ahh, psychology and english compo.. both also taken already me  icon_idea.gif

I just took psychology last sem at INTI subang and it was rather hard... that time was another lecturer... she just left recently.. so with the current new lecturer format i'm not sure if its going to be easy or hard. psychology is all about memorizing.

Finals is actually ok if u really got study..No worries. U just have to score high for ur coursework and choose a correct group members or friends. The coursework is really important. 1% also makes alot of difference. rolleyes.gif

55 - 59 C , 60-64 C+, 65-69 B-,70-74 B,75-79 B+, 80-84 A-, 85-89 A 90-100 A+
*
Okayy. >3<
My lecturer now was Ms Gehi Kamal, She is good.
The text book is damn thick omg. and i need to finish it in 7weeks. @w@

Alright, but normally the lecturer choose the group member for us,
they pick up in random from the name list. >c<
I did badly in my quiz 1. sad.gif(

Alright. so for a B+ I need to get atleast 75 and above. o.o

How s psychology s final and mid term gonna be like ?
Do you have some samples for it ? and how are we gonna answer the questions ?
My lecturer asked us to write down an example in each questions.

finals will be lyk 40MCQ then 4 short answer .

for mid term , its roughly the same as final but just that finals has more question ~
*
What is 40MCQ ? ohmy.gif
Owhhkayys, really alot of remember. >c<

Okay. for this mid term our lecturer give us 2 hours to answer it. rclxms.gif
