So I was gifted a Wii U console a few days ago, came with New Super Mario Bros Wii U.

Love the Gamepad controller concept and execution, but wow that battery life. Ok, so tried playing with the Wii remote nunchuck thing, playable but using the shake to simulate RZ is inconsistent for me. Hmmm what do I do? I'll go see if there is a third party controller or something I can buy, oh great!

There's a Wii U Pro controller! Order one from my favourite seller here, and it arrives in the mail.

Turn on NSMB .....WTF?!?!?! You CAN'T use the Wii U Pro for the game?!?!?! #Nerdrage!!!

Like seriously Nintendo, what's going on? tongue.gif

It is stated on the game box that the Pro controller is NOT supported for that game.

is a norm. I found out most of the people here in Asia do not go through the instruction manual and straight jump into the item/product. We're expert.

The main question I was trying to get across is, what is the logic behind that? After all the Wii U Pro is in fact an official Nintendo controller released post Wii U launch, in order to help alleviate the demand for Gamepads that are not yet available. Why release an official controller and not support it with your flagship title?

It's a very peculiar business decision by Nintendo.

It's just a very strange peculiarity. Makes no sense.

You are questioning about the company who decided to throw out free region encoding when the Wii came out.

And implemented region locking for their handheld console when they've never done that ever.

I can assure you it's not a Business Decision. Instead, it's a nut case's. laugh.gif

Haha, glad someone else can see the humour in this. It's such a silly thing I don't even know what to say.

In a way, I know what you mean. But on a more technical standpoint, maybe, and just maybe, playing a Mario game on a Wii U Pro Controller just doesn't cut it.

of course, I haven't checked if the Wii NSMB supports the older Classic Controller instead. It might be. And again, it'll just go back to a nut case's decision. laugh.gif

Don't know about cutting it, but from my point of view, and maybe others with more Wii U experience can chime in....

You can play the game on the game pad.....Which has all it's bells and whistles.

You can play it on a wiimote, which is just a diagonal pad, two gameplay buttons, a gyroscope, and some system buttons. In game you play with the 1+2 buttons and the 'shake' to simulate 'RZ' (so effectively 3 buttons for play).

Seems like the Wii U pro is superior to the Wiimote and more than capable of handling the game, unless I am missing something?

It's not the superiority, it's the experience. Hence why I would say it doesn't cut it.

Playing Mario with a controller that looks like an xbox 360's may not just cut it for Nintendo. If you think of it that way, then you can understand where these old timers are coming from.

It's like saying why Mario can't be played on an iPad/iPhone. It's not the superiority at all. It's plainly the experience.

Yeah, but it's a Nintendo designed controller smile.gif They approved the design, released it, sold it, and didn't support it.

No no no.

That's a controller designed to bring the PS3/360 players to play other stuff. laugh.gif I can assure you it's not Nintendo's design at all. tongue.gif

LOL? So that's the main reason for the lack of support? Hahhaa.

Still it's an officially licensed controller from Nintendo right?

Oh dear, a bit petty. It's my first 'Nintendo' based system since the Gamecube. While I always remember them being pretty tight with licensing, I seem to recall them supporting all officially licensed products. Very interesting.

Guess I need to desperately find that Nyko Powerpak extended battery, not had much luck here on LYN.

Yeah I'll take some fault there. I could justify being more 'anal' and checking if it was a 'special' controller, say checking if the NES 'Power Glove' is supported by game XYZ. But I was just surprised a flagship title wouldn't support what looks like a pretty standard type controller smile.gif

Oh well, live and learn.

Name any other flagship title on any other system, that does not support an official 'run of the mill' controller, made by the parent company no less.
