My phone battery drains quite fast. From gsam it states i have media server wakelock and its the 1 eating my battery when not in use. I googled this prob and it seems the prob is not for s3 only, other android phones are affected since honeycomb n till now theres no proper solution.
Just want to ask how u guys deal with this issue?

Have you done your wakelock checking? hmm.gif using batterbattertstate?
*
I use gsam battery monitor pro. 2 nights i reboot my phone b4 going to sleep, n leave the phone fully charged. The next morning, my battery reduced almost 20% overnight. Checked in gsam theres a wakelock n in detail it states media server is the couse of the wakelock. I also checked with cpu spy n it shows my phone did not go into deep sleep the whole nite. It stays at 200mhz.

You switch on wifi and data?
*
Nope, turned off. When I 1st got this phone, the battery drain only 6-10% overnight. Now almost 20%. As some forumers point out there maybe a prob with charger, i checked the charging current is 999 n max 1000,so no prob there. So i googled around and found many have the same prob, not just s3 users. Something got to do with android os. The media server wakelock has no definite solution.

hmm.gif  do below to check..

1. You may download batterbatterystate to find out what causing your phone restless, I remember I ask you before.

2. Otherwise go to Applications manager -> Under download, force close stop all apps, don't worry you still can use the aps even you force stop it.

If you use step 1 this apps will tell you what apps is actively running.

If you use step 2 you will not able to determine which is the culprit but you battery will back to normal.

For me my battery will drain most 2% and most of the time is 1%. brows.gif

Ok will try 2nite. Will use step 1. Should i restart the phone b4 going 2 sleep?

Hi, tried option 1. In the partial wakelocks it states *overflow*1013 as the one eating my battery. I googled to see what it means and it is the mediaserver.

To all forumers here who complains of bad battery life, through the help of forumers here i have successfully solved my battery issue.
*overflow*1301 and audioout_2 keeps popping up causing a wakelock, solved it by disabling touch/lock screen n key tone sound in the sound option. It solved the overflow problem but not audioout_2.
So after endless googling, it seems viber is the culprit, uninstalled it and voila, my phone can go into deep sleep.
It seems these 2 wakelocks are caused by apps that has to do with sound. In my case those 2 are the problem. Some cases i read in forums are coused by beautiful widgets n amp player. Had to do try n error in this case.
So thanx again forumers who helped me, took me 4 nights to settle this issue.

And here is a link i found quite usefull in solving wakelock issue

well I hate why the "Media" apps is showing 2nd most in setting > battery
1st one always is screen, then follow by media

I already use titanium backup freeze following apps
1. DRM Protected Content Storage
2. Downloads (got a arrow down icon, not android robot icon)
3. com.sec.android.providers.downloads

but sometimes still pop out, force me go force stop, if not the phone battery drain a lot and phone become very warm
how to solve it ?
*
Is it media or mediaserver?

media (same icon as downloads)
an arrow down icon

I did a little search on the net and the majority says the cause of it is sd card dying. Bcoz the sd card is faulty the media did a loop in searching media files in ur sd. Try changing another sd card, just formatting it does not solve the issue

it is double the score but in general usage, Samsung never improve much. It still feel not smooth. HTC One or Z both phone slower than S4 but both phone running smoother animation than S4.

Samsung S4 still need XDA help on custom ROM to achieve good smooth animation as usual.

What I can said is Samsung always can pack with great hardware, idea in usual friendly and innovation in software part, but.... Samsung programmer is bad on optimization the overall performance on smoothness experience.
*
I agree. Just tried s4 yesterday coz was thinking of changing my s3 to s4. I dont know if its the touchwiz prob or its a test unit coz the animation still got lag. N i dont find any apps that require that much juice to run. Another thing the free space is only 8g, s3 is 11g. Wonder how much bloatware is in it. So i guess will stick to s3 at the moment

I always get email from that site. It sells gadgets n stuff at dirt low price, then have to bid. Some in kopitiam say its a scam, some managed to buy cables n not so interesting stuff at very low price. But never heard any1 managed to get those very2 cheap gadgets.

Not sure if it's safe to continously use my SIII as a GPS navigation tool + 3G in my car. Temperatures easily soar up to 54C+ in the hot afternoon weather sweat.gif

U use papago? If yes then many users did experience fast battery drain n heating issue using it. I stopped using papago bcoz of it. I now use waze, it does get hot but around 44-45c only.

These 2 days my phone is acting really weird. The temp will go up till 50c for no apperent reason. I already install watchdog and cpu monitor to see if there is any rogue apps thats causing this. Didnt find any. Use BBS and cpu spy to see if i have any wakelock problem, nothing seems out of the ordinary. Just went pj sc 2day to change my usb cable, asked them and they say have to leave the phone 2-3 days. And they say usually they solve the prob by wiping the phone and do clean install. Im trying to avoid that (+ i didnt unroot my phone).
Any of u have this prob? And i saw at shops 2day got this phone holder we can clip at the aircon vent. Is it safe to put our phone there for long period? Coz thinking of using it while i try to find whats causing this heat issue

Putting the phone at the AC vent might cool down the phone temperature but I'm afraid it won't solve your problem.

Did you disable your data network. Some app/widget might keep on looking for data network for updates/sync and may resulting the temperature rise..though I don't think it can go as high as 50°C.

Best way is to do factory reset and use only the pre-install app (without those your own downloaded one) for one or two days. See if the problem solved.
If solved..then you can start redownload one or two apps back and monitor the temperature again. Continue till all your previous apps fully downloaded. Quite a lot of works and monitoring but it's the only way..I'm afraid.

Good luck. thumbup.gif

Yes, i was thinking of doing it also. But it will be my last resort if i fail to find the culprit. 2nite will try ur suggestion of my data network. Thanx
