Actually I've been to few countries and live for quite some time and I still prefer Malaysia. (Hong Kong - 3 Years, Thailand - 6 Months, Singapore - 1 Year, Brunei - 10 Years, United States - 8 Months, Australia - 2 Years, New Zealand - 1 Year) To me, Malaysia is still the best place to live. Living costs are actually quite low and less stress also la haha. Still can go mamak tcss compared to other where they live quite a hectic and stressful life. IMO, New Zealand is quite a relaxing place, similar to Brunei with the exceptional scenery but life is quite boring. Shops all close early and no nightlife. Most stressful definitely HK. Taxi drivers in HK are actually millionaires. Why want to migrate? What you fed up of? This post has been edited by Icehart: May 10 2013, 12:15 AM

well i have a canada PR and been there staying in Calgary but now in malaysia, i can tell you for sure:
1. cost of public transportation 1 month (for both bus ride and train ride to center of CBD): CAD 60 2. grocery avg a month for 4 person: CAD 500 3. if you buy a civic: CAD 20,000 4. if you buy a 6 room house with jacuzzi and sauna: CAD 450k, mthly CAD 2000 or go rent for 1200 CAD a month for apartment in downtown 5. ur utilities (electric, water, heating, cooling, satellite TV and mobile with data plan) CAD 500
in my situation i cud save a month CAD 3000 (after paying taxes and etc) - save for 6 months and buy civic cash, but no house, rental only.
the following is a range for those in IT line
on average a person without any experience able to earn 3000 after tax on average a person with 2 - 3 yrs experience would be able to earn 4500 after tax. on average a person with 3 - 5 yrs experience would be able to earn 6000 after tax. > 7 yrs you can earn up to 10k after tax (like technical consultant)
i was able to earn 6000 and spend 3000 a month which is considered damn a lot in canadian standards, as i used to eat out for breakfast, lunch and dinner, travel using cab, call back to malaysia hence phone bill was a lot. if i did stinge i could save more.
the point here is Malaysia earn less and spend more. other places you earn accordingly based on range, experience and able to save more
quality of life. no stress. can see big saving end of the year.
yes i am planning to go back for good next year, i came back because my wife was about to deliver second baby. now i am waiting for him to turn one then go there with family.
of course some people do not succeed and some do succeed big time. it depends which field ur in.
for me what is important is savings, quality of life, children education, peace.
some info above have been summarised and debatable but the accuracy is first hand experience of mine.
also i have been to NZ, Brunei, Jakarta, Singapore, USA, Japan, Canada - of all the ranking is
1. canada 2. NZ 3. USA
