Hi all,

My future looks very dim if I continue with my present lifestyle thus I need to take drastic change.

I have in mind 3 fields that I have interest in venturing namely Agriculture, Automotive and Contraction. Although I have lack knowledge in them, I believe I can work hard to achieve this dream.

Therefore I am posting here seek for all your inputs in planning field to step into. Which department/field that has present and future needs?

Thank you.

Best regards,
Arulthas.

Hi Dreamer,

Appreciate for your response.

My background is Information Technology (IT) and I am in this field for the pass 10 years but right now I want to seek my gold where I have great interest which I suppose to tap in my early days however it's never to late.

I have great interest in these fields but lack of exposure and skill however I am working this out to get more knowledge in these fields and venture into one that I feel more comfortable with.

Please do not hesitate to ask if you need more information to help me out.

Thank you.

Best regards,
Arulthas.

I would choose agriculture if I have the choice.

Food is the foundation of everything. If you can produce huge amount of food with low cost, you are the king. Food may not earn as much as automotive or any other industry but we can't run away from food.

Buy 100 acres of Palm Oil plantation and then you can retire for the rest of your life. But, the problem is you need the capital to do this.

Let's focus on agriculture, be it food or oil palm.

Recently I notice government are focusing more into agriculture and biotechnology. Is there any kind or program in place where we can participate? I also heard that government is encouraging unemployed graduates to venture into agriculture.

If anybody has any information concerning this matter, kindly do the needful help to publish here for everyone benefits.

Thank you.

If you want to know the future, look at Taiwan. Taiwan is more advanced than Malaysia. And, most of the farmer are small farmers. If you study most of the trend of agriculture and food in Malaysia (aquaculture, flower growing, bakery and so on), you will find that Malaysia tend to follow what Taiwan is doing. The pattern seem to be

Japan --> Korea --> Taiwan --> Malaysia -> Thailand / Indonesia /Vietnam

So, Taiwan agriculture technology seem to more adaptable in Malaysia. When it is too labor intensive and cost too much to use (land cost too) in Taiwan, it is still workable in Malaysia. That kind of agriculture seem to be doing well in Malaysia. You might want to migrate some of the Taiwan stuff to Malaysia.

People who went to Chinese school and graduated from Taiwan universities will have better connections in this area.

Biotechnology -> I have no idea what Malaysia will be capable of doing.

Wow, your situation is very very identical to me O.o

Only difference is you are 10 years and I am 2 years in IT. Yeah, future dim, salary consider alot but insufficient, stressful boring job, tired to follow up on those technical matters...

I am already seeking to venturing into other field. I am especially interested in agriculture. In fact, I am only thinking about planting vegetable now. Yesterday I went to see an agri land to let, wanting to set up my farm but then I coundn't agree on what landlord want so the deal is likely a nono, also mainly becoz i dont have sufficient capital to get everything I need(damn clear land only also need 10k @#$%).

Yeah, this is the biggest question from my mind, I was thinking about I might get something from the gov websites but haha, all broken links and emails, otherwise like sending email to hell = no replies. So forget about gov, at least forget about their websites vmad.gif .

Goverment is encouraging youth to venture into agri sector but I really not sure how do they encourage. Or do they simply talk talk for fun. As I hardly find any helps.

If you want to venture into agriculture, you need the following:

- A land, obviously.
- Cost to prepare the land, like clear the land, turn the soil, etc. Dont expect a land is as flat as a football field, it maybe a jungle, grassland, full of mosquitoes or leech etc.
- Cost of irrigation system.
- Decide what you want to plant and cost of planting material, eg seed, fertiliser, pesticide, herbicide... and pick your suppliers.
- Cost of your equipment, eg tractor, farm fork, chemical spray...
- Manpower - somebody gotta take care the land or do the harvest job.
- Finally, where you wanna sell your products. Factory? Middleman? Pasar tani?

And finally, you go thru everything above and receive fruits of your hardwork! I heard that a 3 acres chilli farm can bring in 100s of thousands of income(per season)! Easily beat any general manager or CEO.
