right now the core problem is that the hardware and software (os) are made by 2 different companies. it will take time for them to sync flawlessly to produce a very good and near perfect phone.

back in the old days, nokia makes their own both hardware and software, so the final product is something solid and outstanding. how i wish nokia will come back again in the software department and make something exactly perfect for their upcoming lumias and other future models. i have no doubt if this happens, they will achieve tremendous global success.
*
Exactly. We just have to look at the OTA update fiasco. Nokia Malaysia seems to be hapless to the situation involving another party - Microsoft (Malaysia?). I am sure if Nokia has full control of hardware/software, things will move along faster and more efficiently.

** This does not explain why other countries can pull off the OTA on time... Malaysia memang tak boleh doh.gif

bad news..

i was with a night cycling convoy in my housing area last wednesday and bicycle light ran out of battery. went pass a plantation area with total darkness and ended up in a pool of mud.

no major damage on my bicycle but unfortunately water went into my phone which i kept it in a pouch.

only realize it after i reach home after seeing mist at each corner of the lcd. few hours later back camera also filled with mist and a layer of water stain covered the lower right of the lcd and the stain ended up filling almost half of the right side lcd.

next day realize that the camera led not working.

still able to use the phone lcd slowly dying off after 2 days. i saw the entire process of the lcd dying off where it starts to flicker and filled with vertical lines. the vertical lines slowly fade off and screen went entirely blank.

could not manage to revive it and unable to erase data even with hard reset using the 3 buttons. though with my screen blank, i know that data is not erased because i hear new email tone after phone restarts via hard reset.

apparently hard resetting using 3 buttons do not erase data is quite a common issue after went tru several forums.

fortunately, i remember the erase data function in windowsphone.com and finally manage to erase my phone.

sent my phone to nokia centre in amcorp mall this morning and eager to wait for the technician to update me the status.

Yeah I've tried that to no avail  sad.gif Still reporting old firmware version. The OS is portico but the firmware is not. I think this is the reason why 820 users cannot update to 1308.
Well at least 920 got it right. I can help my gf to update her 920.
*
From the forums on WPCentral, not every L820 user outside Malaysia has got the 1308 firmware yet through OTA update. For example, L820 users in India only started to get it yesterday or today, whereas the L920 and L620 users in India already got it 1-2 weeks ago. Well, at least Portico is updated for now. Let's wait and see - it's probably around the corner.

I have an unbranded Singaporean set. I am currently roaming on Digi in HK and have yet to receive any OTA update. Anyone with SG unit have received their update?
*
My L820 has a UK motherboard (after repair at Nokia Care). I am using Celcom; still pre-Portico. No updates available via OTA for me yet. I don't know whether it's due to Celcom or due to the UK motherboard.

Cut from normal SIM to Micro SIM prevents receiving 4G signal. You will only get H+ at most. So no 4G, nada even if you are Maxis paying customer or in a 4G-enabled zone. So get a proper MicroSim!
*
Could it be that the 4G feature is available due to the new 4G-enabled SIM card; and the size is just by coincidence? I mean, all new 4G devices should be using micro-SIM or nano-SIM slots. Those older bigger-sized SIM cards are not able to get 4G, not because they are cut, but because they are made for 3G only. Just a thought.

the pin point location can be used for remember where you park ur car.
*
If it's indoor multi-storey car park, might be difficult to get the GPS signal... unless there are sufficient openings in the walls nearby.
* And you need to remember exactly which floor you parked your car at... haha.

Hey all,

I am just wondering about battery replacement for my L920. Previously, I came across with some comments on the thread about we can get free battery replacement from Nokia Care if the battery life is draining fast.
Can I get this done in any Nokia Care in PJ/KL area? If so, do I have to pay? How long does it take to get it done?

Thanks!
*
You can change the battery on the spot at Nokia Care. My wife's 820 was draining about 30-40% in flight mode overnight. Went to Nokia Care to exchange the battery (better to bring warranty card and invoice, although they can also check the IMEI). After change battery, still drain like crazy. Finally sent in the unit for motherboard replacement which took a few days. Now only drains 5% overnight in flight mode. My 820 is better: only drain 1% overnight in flight mode.

Thanks for the info. May I know which Nokia Care did you visit?
Is it normal to get drained of 5% overnight in flight mode?

My issue is that with wifi on I chat on whatsapp/facebook, from 45% drop to 10% in like 30 mins. but while i don't do anything about it or just listen to songs, my phone can last 1.5 days in average (provided I switch off my phone while I sleep).

I am very disappointed with the battery life. I am about to travel and would rely a lot on the nokia maps/city lense app. I can foresee my phone won't last a day.
*
The Nokia Care that I went to is not in the Klang Valley... biggrin.gif
I called them up first to confirm that replacement of battery can be done on the spot immediately, before going. After this experience, I believe different units of motherboard of the same model may have different battery drain performance with everything else being the same - settings, network strength, usage, battery, etc....
To me, 5% drain overnight in flight mode may not be the best, but still acceptable compared to before the repair. Maybe your 920 (with bigger battery capacity) can do better than this.

* For travelling purpose, why don't you invest in a power bank?

some places that I want to go just doesn't exist in offline maps! needed to go online then have the places warrghhhh this wasn't exist in the previous Nokia Maps especially on the Symbian devices. great search, only slower gps lock.
*
Normally when I cannot locate a particular place, I make sure to zoom in to the area and search again. For example if I am in KL and want to go to a hotel in Cameron Highlands, I may need to search for cameron highlands first; then only search for the hotel name. If still not successful, then maybe search for brinchang town to zoom in further, before searching by hotel name. So far so good; unless the place is really not marked in the map. In that case, refer to Google Maps first... biggrin.gif
