Guys...

I have just bought a new CPU cooler GH-PCU22-VG.
http://www.gigabyte.de/Peripherals/Product...GH-PCU22-VG.htm

My question is this.
Is it tricky to change the CPU cooler ??
Do I have to remove the thermal paste from the previous application ?
YES = I know i can use alcohol + a cotton swab to remove it. But how much paste
do i need to apply as to not spil onto the processor ?
No = Will the leftover paste be sufficient to hold the new cooler in place ?

Thanks.. appreciate all the help i can get.
The installation manual is not very helpful.

low yat 82,
Thanks for the tips.. am trying to find more information b4 attempting to do this... The other tip I got is to ensure that there are no air bubbles in the thermal paste.

Just something I found....

My way of taking off the heatsink is to unclip everything and just twist left and right while pulling. It's a foolproof way to take the heatsink off without yanking your proc out.

If there is a socket bracket in place I'm afraid there is no way of twisting the heatsink. What you could do however is to try and heat up the proc, shutdown and try remove the heatsink asap. It may or may not help taking off the heatsink.

p/s on a stock hsf, I've always pulled off the proc together with the heatsink. I'm very confident that it will do any damage, btw just make sure you gradually apply the force and never ever try snapping out the heatsink.

Yup, all. Processors without the IHS(heatspreader) is a different case altogether as the contact surface between the heatsink and the core is minimal.

Do u mean the thermal pad/paste underneath the heatsink, that usually comes with the original Intel HSF .

u can just use something sharp to scrape it off, then use alcohol to clean it up. biggrin.gif

How could tissue paper damange metal? tongue.gif

But try get the soft type for easier cleaning. Or soft cotton cloth 'll also do

And yups, AS5 still reign as the king of thermal paste drool.gif
