How did you guys choose between the following:
2-in-1 device i.e. PDA phone; or Separate phone & PDA device.
What were the factors that influenced your decision?
I'm still ding-donging between these 2 options... I like the functionality of a PDA phone.
But I also love the looks of my Motorola V3...

QUOTE(alternativehype @ Apr 15 2006, 03:38 PM) How did you guys choose between the following: 2-in-1 device i.e. PDA phone; or Separate phone & PDA device. What were the factors that influenced your decision? I'm still ding-donging between these 2 options... I like the functionality of a PDA phone. But I also love the looks of my Motorola V3... I was in the almost exact same position as u 1 year ago. I already had a Motorola V3 at that time and needed a PDA. I felt very sayang to sell my v3 ( since it was 1 of the hottest phone 1 year ago ) There were not many models for pda/phone also. So i ended buying a HP ipaq. Everyday, in both my pocket got 1) handphone 2) pda 3)wallet 4)car keys 5)coins so u can imagine the bulge in both my pocket pants. Tho i dont regret it, it is quite inconvenient sometimes....especially when u sweat in hot area.... your pockets feel like burning. But having 2 items also good, i can switch off anyone of them if i want to. If my PDA hang, i can still use my phone...etc

me would say a 2-1 device made me decide getting an O2 Pda/phone. Paired with a CAPDASE casing its also my wallet now. So 3 in 1 in my case.

I carry my Clie NX70V and a Nokia 6020 with me everyday, whenever i leave the house whether for work or leisure... I can't really get used to the idea of a combo-device as i never switch off my phone and therefore, if i were to do that to a combo, the battery will surely wear off very fast!
Even though it can get ma-fan to carry two devices (not forgetting my iPod, wallet, handkerchief, and car keys as well!), i do not mind...

I'll opt for 2 devices instead of a combo, reason being its not wise to put all eggs in one basket. Past experience: Was using the Xda II as a sole device when battery when low and had to make phone calls. I can continue calling at the risk of the batt being depleted and losing all data, or not make calls and pray that the batt lasts till I get home. But I believe WM5 solved this problem, still I prefer 2 devices rather than 1.

You might also forget to bring the only device you have I prefer 2 devices as well, best of both worlds at a lower price.

Heros Never Die
|
Let me tell you
before my treo 600 died , i used my hp ipaq rx3715 + Nokia 6630 , well everything is nice ...and sometimes i forget to carry my PDA [bulky , as i got my to-dos , etc on my phone..so i dont really have to worry]. Then sold some old stuff and went with HP ipaq hw6515. Really bad , experince ...You know why :-
1. Battery dies very fast [try to use GPS And turn your phone on , within 5hrs of usage , low battery]
2. Data [low battery , data is dead....well , on WM5 its safe...at least]
Problem with PDA-Phone is that you miss all the fun , like JAVA Games , nokia stuff..you see all the mods , all for nokia , se phones only...I dont see any for 02 ,DoPod , etc. apart from that , after K/O ..lol , at least normal phone , you can repair it for cheap....for PDA/phone...it has its own pros and cons

Im also caught in this dilemma. well what i think is 2 devices is better than one. Like what the others said, u dont need to worry about battery dying off. The only concern is that u have to carry 2 devices which takes up pretty a lot of space. I look foward to more opinions.

I'd say go for a 2-in-1 convergence device. Its such a hassle to carry two items everywhere you wanna go.
Btw, only go for devices with good battery life. No point carrying a PDA phone only to have its battery drained after a few minutes of usage.

True true, but thats where the problem is... Many ppl i know will keep their cellphones switched on for long hours so that they can easily be contacted...
Just wondering, should you do that (whole-day standby mode) for a PDA-Phone, how long can the battery last?

Seems from this thread that there are more supporters of separate devices rather than 2-in-1 devices.
But yet the device specific threads are filled with forummers... hmm, something for me to ponder.

AFAIK, most PPC phones have mediocre to poor battery life compared to normal smartphones. The Treos have good battery life though. With an mp3 playback duration of 12 hours, I think it's standby time is great.
