This is running away from the curren topic a lil, but does anyone know the type of RAM that's in the MacBook..? A UK site that sells RAM online suggests the:

DDR2 PC2-5300 . CL=5 . UNBUFFERED . NON-ECC . DDR2-667 . 1.8V . 128Meg x 64
(whatever that means. tongue.gif i just cut and paste the description.. biggrin.gif)

but thats going for 120pounds for 1 stick of 1Gig..

I checked with MacAsia in regards to "up-ing" the RAM from the standard 2 sticks of 256 (512) to 1Gig (2 sticks of 512) and the cost is just shy of RM1,000..! shocking.gif

Is the RAM specs (PC2-5300) vital to the MacBook..? or can i get a lower spec RAM (PC2-4200 or 3200) and not ruin the MacBook...?

Any thoughts on that? Also, if anyone has a price quote, that would be great too...

I dont know if it is out of your way miniacs, but i was at the Apple store on the 3rd (dont remember the name) in BSC, and they had a pretty big selection of covers for it. The price for at 14inch (i think) one was about RM100.

RM390 huh..? if thats the case, thats WAAAY better then the RM1,000 MacAsia were offering me for a RAM upgrade..

The RAM for the MacBook is standard right..? i mean, does it use standard RAM or a special Apple only type of RAM..?

I read something today that has made me seriously reconsider a MacBook purchase..

Some MacBooks Plagued by Discoloration

I know I know..its a purely "cosmetic" issue but c'mon Stevie..! You can do better than that....Id have expected a lil better from Apple man. cry.gif

I KNOW! Ive read that someone complained to Apple Care and they couldnt do anything about it cause its considered to be a cosmetic issue which isnt covered..man...now im seriously starting to reconsider it...i mean, i know its no big deal but for something like that to pop up after just 2-3 weeks is a lil bad la...who knows WHAT itll look like in a year....

The more i research into the MacBook, the more issues that seem to pop up..first it was the heat (which i got over), then there have been some issues of "whining" and "mooing" (no idea..saw it in an Apple discussion thread), WiFi issues, the MagSafe issue with the MBP (i know..its on the MBP but the MB uses MagSafe as well so one never knows.) and now THIS..?! seriously. Not good. Despite what that nice fellow at Time Magazine said.

Gotcha miniacs but i personally cant afford the Black MB..unless there are some serious suggestions or explanations addressing the issue of the discoloration, i might (unfortunately) just get a Dell..

Again, i know its a minor cosmetic issue, but it is a lot of money for something like that..and besides, im man enough to admit the cosmetics played a part in my decision..(the others being GarageBand, built in WiFi,Bluetooth and iSight;DVD Burner, and size and weight.)

No worries mate. wink.gif

I suggested to a friend of mine to maybe check out the serial numbers of the MBs that get released here..like i mentioned, it could be an isolated issue with that one manufacturer, sorta like the "plastic film blocking the air vent" case...

Deadman, would you mind quoting your sister's MB serial number..? and seeing that your the only one so far with the white MB (miniacs punya hitam i think) maybe you can keep us updated on the cosmetics of the white MB..? Sorry for the trouble. cool.gif

I know i may be barking up the wrong tree here but isnt anyone else worried about the discolouration of the MBs..? I know its merely cosmetic but still....

Those already with MBs, if you dont mind telling, could i know your serial numbers please..? just wondering if it is any different from the ones with the reported problems so far...

man, im seriously getting really anxious.

I hate to be the rotten apple (no pun intended) but i got my MacBook 2.0 yesterday and today IT WONT TURN ON!! mad.gif mad.gif mad.gif

It worked this morning then a couple of hours later, it didnt! wont even turn on..! Took it to the Mac shop in Ikano and the guy tried a while then said that the RAM (i had upgraded to 1stick 1G) is NOT the problem and he didnt know why...! So im gonna have to take it to the Apple Service Center tomorrow. Man im irritated..oh and i then took it to the Mac shop in Low Yat Plaza (i live in KL) and the guy tried the boot disk to no avail...

NO i didnt install anything, not Boot Camp, not Windows, nothing..the guys at the shop asked me this so i thought id clear it up...

man. Just when i had bought the new ori Football Manager 06 to play....NOT a good way to start my Apple affair.

No such luck guys..everyone, from the shop that sold it to me (Cycom), to the two Mac shops (Ikano and Low Yat Plaza) told me to take it to the Apple Service Center, VR Technology in KL..so i just dropped it off this morning and they told me that they'd check it and get back to me...

What is unsettling is that VR Tech said that if it was a hardware issue, which they suspect, they'd fix it for free..BUT if it was a software issue, they'd CHARGE me RM100..! When i asked about it still being under warranty, the lady behind the counter said that since they're two different companies, they cant claim the charge, but said that i can "get" it from the shop that sold it to me...

I see myself having to pay for it no matter what comes out..doubt Cycom's gonna just fork a hundred bucks.

Guys, i need some advice..i just got a call from VR Tech, the service center i sent my MB to repair, and they said that the problem is because i had 1Stick 1Gig inside..it seems according to them that it needs to run on a PAIR..which means that if i want 1Gig, id need 2sticks of 512s...i thought that was weird cause no one else had said it wouldve been a problem...
