here you can see the ASUS RT-N12HP (front) and ASUS RT-AC66U (behind) , their size almost the same but ASUS RT-AC66U a bit bigger

here another side to side comparison between the RT-N12HP and RT-AC66U

user posted image
the design of this router is the same as other ASUS Black Diamond Series router

user posted image
ASUS RT-N12HP is very lightweight compare to RT-AC66U also you do not have to worry about working temperature , even in high load this RT-N12HP temperature is just fine.

ASUS K46CM using LAN connected to RT-N12HP
MYPC using Wireless PCE-AC66

as you can see in the picture below i have connected to my wifi using ASUS PCE-AC66 i can get average -35 to -37 dBm in 30feet away from the router and a between wall .
i have tested the ASUS RT-N12HP signal how far can it goes . I live in apartment level 5 so i bring my laptop out go up until level 8 , i really impress with the result , i still get a reception at level 6 and 7 but when i go up to level 8 my wifi signal show only 1 bar and after few second it disconnect and disappear from wifi list , at level 6 and 7 i get around 3 to 2 bar that is very good

TEST 1
user posted image
The first test my wifi channel is 1 , the wireless mode is N only and the Channel bandwith is 40MHz
transferring 4.27GB zip file from MYPC (wireless) to ASUS K46CM laptop (LAN) , The Maximum transfer rate i get is 12MBps the average is 11MBps-10MBps .

TEST 2
user posted image
the second test is pretty much same as the first test except this test my wifi channel is 6 . The result is same with the first test

TEST Conclusion
ASUS RT-N12HP is a 300MBps wireless rate and 2.4Ghz frequency with 100MBps LAN port
i can achieve maximum 12MBps transfer rate of 4.27GB file on wifi to LAN that is pretty good
the transfer speed can be vary because of frequency interference

ASUS RT-N12HP INTERFACE

user posted image
RT-N12HP interface is pretty much the same with other ASUS Diamond Router

The Guest Network can be use if you want to open a "Internet connection" or only "HOME Network" to your guest or to anyone

user posted image
3-IN-1 operation mode , you can select which operation mode that you want here

OVERALL

Standard 2.4ghz wifi "N" range for close area is around 70meter and for open area is 250meter it also depend on frequency interference in the area . ASUS RT-N12HP router is very good for a large open or closed area . The wifi signal is boosted 300% than a normal router because of its 2 9dbi antennas , If ASUS can provide a Gigabyte Ethernet Port to this router it will be awesome it will provide much faster transfer rate for bigger file.

For those who interested in this router you can get it in any lowyat store around RM219 (viewnet)

Hi amil123,

Have you tried out the repeater mode & don't mind to share
the way to do it ?

Tq.
*
yes to set the router to repeater mode just simply login to UI and go to administration tab then select repeater mode and apply after that you get to choose which wifi you want to use

if you want to access your RT-N12HP again you need to use the ASUS utility that can be download here

Choose PPPoE then tick special requirement from ISP at the bottom
on the right side of the screen you can see ISP profile pick for unifi-home
click next after that fill up your unifi information then you are done biggrin.gif

Bro amil 123,

Thanks for your explanantion.
For the first try, I forgot to tick special requirement from ISP at the bottom and thats is why the right side of the screen for ISP profile does not appeared. And finally I noticed & tick the special requirement from ISP.
So its ok, then when it come to this Account Setting Screen, it takes me about 30 - 45 minutes to figured out why my password cannot match.
I have checked the previous router & I figured out that I wrongly put the password ( I used my unifi account password) & the installer does not give me the 13 alphabet/digit password. Then for solution I call the customer services & she provide me the password. She also asked me if the installer should gave me the password. So finally I cant use my ASUS router now and my wifi does not have problem like the stock Huawei router that unifi gave me. And the coverage is more better.
I just wondering , what the unifi installer said to me. He mention
1. That unifi router cannot be changed to other brand or router,if I want to changed I should call him
2. Why he does not gave me the password?
*
sorry for late reply
1.the router still can be change as long you know how to set it up
2.from my exp after unifi installation is done you should be handed a paper that contain all you account info and password

now im not with unifi anymore , i need speed and good price so i change to maxis fiber >.<
but maxis fiber not very good at gaming because of the ping ,

hello bro , i just bought 1 exactly same router with you...
this unit is pending to install for my customer which is using Astro IPTV via Maxis Fiber

do you have any idea about Astro IPTV ?....

as the maxis default router (technicolor) can use any of the LAN port to connect the Astro PVR stream video , if i swap the maxis router to asus rt-n12hp (configure as wireless router) , does the Astro IPTV function of any of the LAN Port ? or it doesn't support Astro IPTV ?

does the Astro IPTV work if i connect to asus rt-n12hp when it's configured as repeater mode ?....

lastly , in the Quick Installation Setup .....what is the different between Maxis-Fiber & Maxis-Fiber Special ?....

thanks...
*
for iptv sorry i dont know how to setup it , im using a normal maxis fiber line without iptv

Bro sorry to bother around here but I want to ask why must use LAN2 on the fiber modem?
I'm going to get this router soon so I must clear my doubts.
I can't find any open-wrt firmware on google, any idea if the non HP version for RT-N12 will work for this?
I want to install open-wrt cause now I have some small experience edy so I can set it up easier! rclxms.gif

it depends on the contractor that setup your BTU modem if they setup your isp fiber VLAN port at LAN port 2 then you must use LAN port 2

why use openwrt? asuswrt itself already good enuf and it does support unifi and maxis fiber
ASUS update all their router UI using ASUSWRT much easier to use compare to openwrt or ddrwrt , but low end ASUS router may have some limited function . the ultimate router like AC66U and AC68U is the best so far for me , i dont bother looking at openwrt or ddwrt because ASUSWRT is enuf and have all the function that i need such as VPN , FTP SERVER , CLOUD SERVER

if you want to try out the ASUSWRT you can go here http://event.asus.com/2012/nw/dummy_ui/en/
