1. Preferred Brand - Asus, Dell, Lenovo, or any recommendation from sifus.
2. Budget - 3.2k at max
3. Usage - Gaming + networking softwares. Will be starting my intern soon, laptop will be installed with hyperterminal, packet tracer etc. Mostly networking stuff.
4. Preferred laptop/screen size - at least 14 inch.

Planning to get a new laptop when I finally start my work. Will be using it for networking purpose and gaming. Games like PES 2013, FIFA 2013, Kingdom of Amalur will be installed.
So which laptop has a good balance between gaming and work?

the latest is the new GT750M in Y400 which is better than the GTX660M. you can see some models at mid valley.

Ya, I have been google-ing about Lenovo Y400, looks very good on spec, plus got ODD swappable. really tempting. Just that it is hard to find in Malaysia. Thanks for the info! rclxms.gif

Sifus, I'm looking to replace my dell inspiron 15r with an ultrabook
1. Preferred Brand - Asus/Lenovo/Samsung
2. Budget - less than RM3k
3. Usage - Gaming, needs to have 2gb dedicated graphic card, coz wil install games like PES 2013, Diablo 3 etc. Will install softwares like Eclipse, Hyperterminal.
4. Preferred laptop/screen size - prefer Asus, screen size does not matter, hope to get a light ultrabook.

You want ultrabook with dedicated GPU, that restrict you to 14". Since you restricted to those 3 brands, your only viable choice:

Asus
K46CB-WX060H, i5-3337U + Nvidia GT740M@RM2199[2kg], 2GB, 750GB, W8, 4-cell, OD

Price is RSP, negotiable.

How about the Asus S550CB-CJ103H i7-3537U + Nvidia GT740M + 24GB mSATA + 1TB + (1366x768; touch)@RM3299[2.3kg], 4GB, W8?
I found from lelong.my this model is selling at RM3099. Just top up a little from my budget, so it's considerable. Is the Asus S550CB-CJ103H available in Malaysia Asus retail shop?

save your money and stick with the 14" K46CB smile.gif

the i7 in the S550CB is also duo core, not much better than the i5 in K46CB.
If you want SSD, you could buy a mSATA SSD 128G ~ RM300 and upgrade it into the K46CB and install OS and apps on it (the 24GB mSATA in S550CB is used for caching only).
Touchscreen on 15" is pretty much moot, as the screen is heavy will start to wobble once you poke poke on it.

doh.gif didn't know the i7 in S550CB is dual core, thot quad core. blink.gif

Don't see why you need a quad core to run those apps you have in mind smile.gif

hmmm...because my current laptop which is i5 dual core suffers some lagging when I do some debugging using Eclipse. So I'm thinking a quad core clocked at higher ghz might solve it.

what type of programming are you doing? No of lines of codes that you normally debug? i5 M normally handle Eclipse adequately  hmm.gif
The lagging only happen in Eclipse? Maybe you want to check the setting and see it is using multi-core while debugging? Also check RAM usage (not likely a problem though  hmm.gif )
*
Some Android app programming. Number of lines of codes that I usually debug is 500+. Sometimes 1k+ -.- Have to load the emulator before debugging some more. I also suspect maybe the main problem comes from Eclipse itself. Will check out the setting. Ram usage about 50-60 % usually.
Will be doin a clean format on my laptop soon. Hope the problem can be solved. rclxms.gif
