Hi all, it's me again  wave.gif

Looking for laptop with below specs:
1. Preferred Brand: Open to all recommendations
2. Budget: around RM3k
3. Usage: Movies, torrenting, net surfing and a lot of gaming (probably Dota2, Crysis1-3, blackops 2, etc)
4. Preferred laptop: Durable, must feel solid, no flimsy areas or LCD hinges like on some Acer and Dell models. i7 3rd gen, GT 700 series
5: Screen Size: 14" or 15.6"

I think I need a laptop for my daily gaming use. I have been used to desktops so I'm quite particular in CPU power / speed. Graphics wise, I would say I'd go for medium graphics on native resolution. (should not demand too much on my tight budget) tongue.gif
I've been following this thread for a while, and have set my eyes on the following:

ASUS S46CB 14 inch - http://sg.asus.com/Notebooks/Superior_Mobi...#specifications
Not quite sure about this cos it uses ULV processor, but the graphics is good. (GT 740M) Around RM 2500 ?

Lenovo Y400 14 inch - i7 QM + GT750m. Around RM2799
this definitely suit my needs but did some research and found that Lenovo Y400/Y500 QC seems to be inconsistent. Although this model is very very popular right now, I see that people do face some problems with drivers, touchpad, and wifi issues (disconnections). as I am using company Lenovo business laptop as well, I do have this issue too. seems to plague a lot of Lenovo models? if anybody here using this model, do you mind to share your experience? I would appreciate that.

Acer V3 15.6 inch -  i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT730M + (1920x1080 IPS). around RM 2899
Acer hmm.gif not a fan of Acer, but if the build quality is solid, can consider. GT 730M is not strong for the screen (1080p), or maybe it's me tongue.gif

Would need some help in deciding or some recommendations icon_question.gif and Thanks for the feedback guys!  notworthy.gif

Not many models with GT7xxM get released yet.
For your budget, you want "no flimsy areas or LCD hinges"? Nada tongue.gif (can only find this is Dell Latitude 6 / Precision, Lenovo Thinkpad T/W, HP Elitebook. Totally cannot flex the laptop anywhere, and have very solid hinges.)
Crysis 3 at native resolution? If you go for laptop with FHD screen (1920x1080), you will need GT750M or better to play at low pre-set details level.
If you use Lenovo business laptop (Thinkpad T series?) and has issues, you (or your IT) should contact Lenovo support immediately and get it sorted out. Your company is paying a bomb to get Lenovo warranty support for business laptop laugh.gif

Anyway, for your budget and your usage requirement, your best bet is the Lenovo Y series. Anything else is either too under-powered or too expensive for you.
Since you are coming from desktop environment, you may need to get used to how expensive gaming on laptop really is laugh.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

Perhaps this ?
Z500, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT645M @RM2299, 4GB, 1TB, W8; backlit, 2 years warranty (4-cell)

When you see "U" aka ULV processor, the performance is a step down from M series. i3 U = Pentium M, i5 U = i3 M, vice versa.  wink.gif

Thanks for the tip! This spec is much better!

Found a seller --> Lenovo Z500

Okay?

Yeah... I know... I'm getting a laptop in 2-4weeks time.. Hope to get more models but right now y400 seems to be the best bet. Asus n46vz looks tempting too, design wise, but tongue.gif y settle for less right? For the same price I could get i7 Quad!

Regarding your question on native resolution, which is the reason I have doubt's of getting the Acer... 1080p on 730m... hmm.gif no laugh.gif

I am using lenovo X series btw, and will log a case with IT soon.. my 4 year old Asus k series could give me a pretty solid feel , so my heart is still with Asus tongue.gif was hoping to get news if Asus is going to update their graphic, and I won't mind pushing my budget limit by a few hundred more...

So I'll settle with lenovo y400 for now, or if something else comes out in 2 weeks... Thanks for the chat yo smile.gif

Heyya everyone.

Just want to ask whether anybody ever had any dealings or bought laptops from M3COM. This shop is quite prolific in Lelong.com.my and selling and pretty decent low prices. Just need to know whether they are a trustworthy re-seller ?

1. Any brand ( Except ACER)
2. RM3.2k Below (Before my budget was 2.2k, now raise to to 3.2k...hehe)
3. Gaming, Web Surfing, Assignment, AUTOCAD
5. Screen Size 15'6 , i5 3rd Gen

No--> Asus N56VZ, coz I just lost it few months ago.

How about ILLEGEAR RE-15 ? Seems not bad. I always use for long hours gaming.
Any other model to suggest?? biggrin.gif biggrin.gif smile.gif

1. Preferred Brand : Any
2. Budget : RM 2.5k
3. Usage : looking for a light laptop for mainly on-the-go video editing (Sony Vegas)
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 14-inch

I saw the new Dell Vostro 5460 (only 1.54kg) with the following specs:
Intel i5-3230M
Nvidia GT630M 2GB DDR3
4GB RAM (should be upgrade-able to 8GB)

Appreciate if any sifu(s) here can feedback if the specs above can run Sony Vegas comfortably for HD Video editing?
Mostly simple edits at 1080p and occasionally 2.7k...not much transitions/effects...

Thanks in advance!

Yup, you need i7 quad core, at least medium level GPU. Don't worry too much about RAM, 15" laptop normally has sufficient RAM slots for you to add RAM aftermarket (4G stick ~ RM80, 8G stick ~ RM200)

Acer
V3-571G-736b8G1T, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT730M(DDR3) + (1920x1080 IPS) @RM2899[2.6kg], 8GB, 1TB, W8 (nice IPS screen, see it to appreciate)

Asus
N56VZ-S4284H, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT650M + (1920x1080) + Bluray@RM3699[2.7kg][B&O], 4GB, 1TB, W8; color: black

Dell
Inspiron 15R (Special Edition), i7-3612QM + AMD HD7730M + (1920x1080; anti-glare) + 32GB SSD + 1TB HDD(5400rpm)@RM3199, 8GB, backlit keyboard optional, W8

Lenovo
Ideapad Y500, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT650M + (1920x1080)@RM3799, 4GB, 500GB, W8; GN36 exGPU, 120W & 170W AC adapter (the ultrabay GPU is a waste for you, but you could sell it to recoup RM500+)

Prices are RSP, negotiable.

the new Vostro 5460 is a very interesting machine.
Only has 1 RAM slot. If you want 8G RAM, you need to swap out the 4G RAM stick.
Has 2 system fans, dissipate heat pretty well for such slim body hmm.gif
Has a sub-woofer laugh.gif
But a glossy screen (major disappointment for me personally tongue.gif )

For Sony Vegas, the more powerful the CPU & GPU, the better laugh.gif
but an i5 M (don't go for the i5 ULV if you opt for Vostro 5460), and GT630M could get the job done.

Other alternative (not necessarily better)
Asus
K46CM-WX090H, i5-3317U + Nvidia GT635M@RM2199[2kg], 2GB, 500GB, W8, OD
HP
Envy4-1238TX, i5-3337U + AMD HD8750M@RM2099[Beats][1.75kg], 2GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8
Lenovo
Z400, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT740M@RM2099, 4GB, 1TB, W8; 2 years warranty
Z400, i7-3632QM + Nvidia GT645M@RM2699, 4GB, 1TB, W8; backlit, 2 years warranty

Prices are RSP, negotiable.

1. Preferred Brand - Asus, Dell, Lenovo, or any recommendation from sifus.
2. Budget - 3.2k at max
3. Usage - Gaming + networking softwares. Will be starting my intern soon, laptop will be installed with hyperterminal, packet tracer etc. Mostly networking stuff.
4. Preferred laptop/screen size - at least 14 inch.

Planning to get a new laptop when I finally start my work. Will be using it for networking purpose and gaming. Games like PES 2013, FIFA 2013, Kingdom of Amalur will be installed.
So which laptop has a good balance between gaming and work?
