Hi guys,

1. Preferred Brand - Any except Asus
2. Budget - 2.5k
3. Usage - Office work, movies, casual gaming
4. Preferred laptop/screen size - 14"-15", light preffereable

Need suggestion to decide between this laptop
lenovo z500 or toshiba satellite u940
did compare the price almost the same and u940 got 32gb ssd+640gb sata compare to z500 1tb sata hdd
really confusing to choose or is there any other laptop within the same range of price and performance that u guys can recommend..  rclxub.gif
*
If you prefer a light notebook, then the U940 is definitely the better pick here nod.gif
15 inchers are pretty bulky to bring about, even when some of them are quite slim

guys

hp envy4-1204tx & toshiba u940-1001x

which one is better?

and i saw threads about hp notebook overheating issue, is it the same to this model?
*
Which one is better depends on what you plan to use the ultrabooks for, which is why we have a format to follow at the 1st page icon_rolleyes.gif
Both are ultrabooks, so they will get hot when on load as compared to normal notebooks nod.gif

I'm planning to buy a laptop for my gf.
She is a movie/anime junky and plays a lot of casual games.
Ocassionally will use it for powerpoint presentations.
Most of the time will be internet surfing and streaming.

1. Preferred Brand - any good ones, girly designs and nice looking ones.
2. Budget - 1k - 2k
3. Usage - multimedia, internet, office use
4. Preferred laptop/screen size - 15" above

thanks
*
Are you sure you would one to get a 15" notebook (and above summore) for a girl? They are bulky and heavy yo hmm.gif
Regardless, there are no slim and light 15" notebooks here in Malaysia within your budget unfortunately...
Perhaps 14" would be better picks? As follows:
14"
Asus [Ultrabook]K46CM-WX059V, i3-3217U + Nvidia GT635M@RM1899[2kg], 2GB, 500GB, 4-cell battery, W7HP, OD

HP [Ultrabook] Envy4-1238TX, i5-3337U + AMD HD8750M@RM2099[Beats][1.75kg], 2GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8

Lenovo [Ultrabook]S400, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + 24GB mSATA + 500GB(5400rpm)@RM1999[1.8kg], 4GB, W7HB; AMD HD7450M/W8@RM2199

Toshiba [Ultrabook] Satellite U840-1009X, i3-3217M + AMD HD7550M + (32GB mSATA + 500GB HDD)@RM1899[1.7kg], 4GB, W8P; backlit keyboard

Hi guys, need some recommendation for a laptop that I'm looking to purchase.

1. Preferred Brand - Any Brand, but preferable with good warranty / support
2. Budget - 3k - 3.5k
3. Usage - Office work (Primary), Movies and surfing
4. Preferred laptop/screen size - ~14"-15"

I would prefer to have touchscreen and also an optical drive.

Any ideas / recommendations?
*
There are not really a lot of touchscreen notebooks at the moment: hmm.gif
14"
Acer V5-471PG, i5-3337U + Nvidia GT710M + (1366x768; touch)@RM2299, 4GB, 500GB, W8

Dell Inspiron 14R, i5-3337U + Nvidia GT730M + (1366x768;touch)@RM2099[2.33kg], 4GB, 750GB(5400rpm), Linux; W8@RM2399

Dell and HP offers better warranty support among this options nod.gif You can use the remaining budget to extend warranty to 3 years nod.gif

Hi, need some expert recommendations here also

1. Preferred Brand - any except hp
2. Budget - 2.5k - 3.2k
3. Usage - mosty high-end gaming, photoshop, also programming
4. Preferred laptop/screen size - 14 or 15.6

been eyeing on lenovo y400 for its gt650 graphic card, but the stores I went don't have stock (and promoting other models instead). one model, an acer i think, is using gt730 so im not sure if its good.

thanks
*
If having a better screen for viewing pleasure and photoshop is more important to you, then the Acer would be a great choice for your budget:
15.6"
Acer V3-571G-736b8G1T, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT730M(DDR3) + (1920x1080 IPS) @RM2899[2.6kg], 8GB, 1TB, W8
* use remaining budget to extend warranty to 3 years nod.gif

Otherwise, you can try and find Y400 (I still saw one or 2 units some time ago at Digital Mall SS14), or you can simply wait for the upcoming Y400 with GT750M laugh.gif

Haha..I wanted an ultrabook because I feel that ultrabook has durable build quality not? I want something that durable and the laptop is smooth in usage(Free of lag if can)and dont have any heating problem.sorry sifu for confusing hehe
*
I think you are getting it wrong here hmm.gif
Ultrabooks, due to its slim profile, will definitely be less durable, and also suceptible to higher heat because of the lack of space for proper heat dissipation. Prolong exposure to heat = higher risks of damage to internal components hmm.gif

Like what nexus sifu said, better avoid ultrabooks, since you are not moving around alot, try and get a larger notebook nod.gif

Hi, i was confusing on which to get between these 2 laptops:
Y400, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT750M@RM2499, 4GB, 500GB, FreeDOS, 120wPSU, swappable ODD, 2 years warranty
Z400, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT740M@RM2099, 4GB, 1TB, W8; 2 years warranty

Budget: As low as possible
Usage: Uni life, slight gaming(Assassin creed, Dota 2 & Dragon Nest)

Here are some questions that i hope pros to give advice:
1. Is it worth the $ to get i7?
2. I'm planning to replace the HDD with SSD but i don't have any idea on which brand i should get and can this perform by the reseller? (computer geek here sad.gif )
3. If i were to get the Y400, is it possible for me to install W8 myself? Would i encounter any problem by doing so?
*
Get the Y400, I'm pretty sure you will continue playing games in the long run laugh.gif
By then you will need the extra juice from (especially) the graphic card brows.gif

1. Its not really worth it if you are only using it for games, but its not like you have much of a choice since the GPU is better in the Y400
2. Yeah, you can ask resellers for help nod.gif It doesn't really matter which SSD you opt for since all are fast, and its not exactly very tangible in real life the speed differences hmm.gif Perhaps an Intel one?
3. Yeah you can install W8 yourself hmm.gif

Hi sifu, I would like you to recommend some notebook which meet the following requirement.

Brand : Any
Budget : 2.5k to 3.5k
Screen : Any
OS : Free Dos if possible
Use for : gaming ( I do not play FPS game because I will faint ) and entertainment (video, music)
Other requirement : silent when boosts CPU/GPU, good thermal solution, SSD ( annoying in waiting comp to boot up ), as light as possible ( around 2 to 3 kg is okay )

Because I am thinking to replaced it with my currently desktop, which mean in home I will connect it to LED monitor, therefore I am not bother about the screen size. I am thinking is it worth to buy a notebook or desktop, because I wish to use notebook at outside frequently.

Please recommend me >< thanks very much!!!!!

Kai

Might I suggest you opt for a portable and cheap ultrabook so that you can spend more money on your desktop for better performance? hmm.gif
Desktops will definitely pawn notebooks in terms of bang for buck laugh.gif

4. Preferred laptop/screen size - 15" and above

I hope the laptop can get used to be turned on for a quite long time as i love to download
Does lenovo y400 is pretty good?
Any sifus can recommend me few others?
Thanks in advance!

Y400 is 14" in size... you will need the extra screen size in video editing imho hmm.gif
How about this one?
15.6"
Lenovo
Ideapad Z580, i7-3612QM + Nvidia GT640M@RM2299, 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), freeDOS, white
Ideapad Z580, i7-3612QM + Nvidia GT640M@RM2499, 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W7HB, white

Worth looking for because of its decent i7 CPU which will come in handy in providing more performance for video editing~

Looking for very basic touch-enabled netbook or laptop for windows end user office application.

1. Preferred Brand: none.
2. Budget: cheapest possible
3. Usage: Office end user for basic database application (end user connecting to server).
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: min. 15' will be helpful, must be able to have USB for keyboard/mouse connections.

Thank you.

Minimum 15.6"? That's pretty large for a touch-screen notebook laugh.gif
You can get for cheaps at around RM1.5k if you don't mind a 11-12" notebook nod.gif
if strictly an 15 incher, then perhaps this one?

Hope you guys would like to help me.

1. Preferred Brand: ASUS (If any, can recommend so; But at least don't wan those brands of laptop that release too much of heat, thus I can eliminate the use of cooler)
2. Budget: As Low As Possible (Price just match with the requirements I need, dont too over)
3. Usage: Running Engineering Simulation Software(eg: Solidworks, Ansys, Autocad ;need to be high efficiency, no lag, no hang), Uni Assignment, Playing Games(eg:Dota, Starcraft II, Fifa), Watching Movie, Listening Music
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 14" or 15"

One more question to ask:
I heard there is an ASUS laptop very popular, lack of stock and mostly available in kl now with very high spec (win8, i7, 8gb ram, touch screen, <ultrabook not sure>) with price about RM2700. Is this real? If yes, may I know the model no. ?

Your reply will be greatly appreciated. Thanks every master sifu here.
*
You can't have the best of everything unfortunately, you will need to fork out ~RM6k-10k to get a notebook that fulfills your requirements hmm.gif

Asus notebooks are popular because the design is good... people buy mostly based on the outlook of the notebook, regardless of how terrible the warranty service of Asus is in Malaysia hmm.gif
Still, you can try looking out for these two models:
