be noted that that is a pentium dual core ULV processor. so thats why it is cheaper than the core i version.

depends on user. if you want the removable battery feature, go for Z580. Z400/Z500 battery is removable when the back cover is disassembled.

extend warranty and upgrade RAM usually need around RM300, since this laptop currently comes with 2 years warranty.

around 80% of the shops malaysia wide provide RAM upgrading. if you buy it at lowyat, then you have the more chance to do so. no matter how hard is the laptop's disassembly, they will still do it because they want to earn money.

1. Preferred Brand Asus or lenovo
2. Budget Around RM2K. I can top up to maximum RM2.5K but prefer to be around RM2K.
3. Usage Internet; programming like photoshop, videos editing, matlab; entertainment like musics and movies; uni/work purposes like words, excel, powerpoint; gaming like dota, simcity, left 4 dead
4. Preferred laptop/screen size 13" to 14"
5. Addition information I am currently studying in Singapore. So I would need extended international warranty if possible as I would not be able to go back to Malaysia frequently. I would need a laptop recommendation that sort of fits with my current situation. smile.gif

Where would the better place to buy - lowyat or asus certified sellers?

I am also considering to get macbook pro 13" as the probability of me gaming is very low - probably like once a year. So would it be better to get a macbook pro 13" instead of an asus or lenovo laptop?

Thanks! smile.gif
*
The cheapest MBP 13" is this, out of your budget:
MacBookPro 13", i5-3210M + Intel HD4000 + (1280x800)@RM3699[2.06kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), backlit keyboard, Mac OSX

Asus models usually has 2 year International Warranty. Lenovo models usually has 2 years ASEAN warranty. So picking models from these brands should be fine. You may also consider Dell as well, if you extend warranty to 3 years during purchase, it autamatically become international warranty.

No difference buying from normal shop or from "Asus Certified Seller" as long as you get warranty support directly from Asus, just make sure you get proper receipt.

Asus
A45VS-VX026H, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT645M@RM2199[2.4kg], 2GB, 500GB, W8
K46CM-WX090H, i5-3317U + Nvidia GT635M@RM2199[2kg], 2GB, 500GB, W8, OD

Dell
Inspiron 14R (Special Edition), i5-3210M + Nvidia GT640M(28nm Kepler)@RM2049[2.38kg], 4GB, 500GB(7200rpm), W7HP/W8

Lenovo
Z400, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT740M@RM2099, 4GB, 1TB, W8; 2 years warranty
Z480, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT640M@RM1999, 4GB, 1TB(5400rpm) W8, colors: grey/red/blue

Prices are RSP, negotiable.
Use the remaining of your budget to increase RAM (Asus) (4G stick ~ RM80), extend warranty (Dell, 3 years ~ RM250), buy SSD to swap out the HDD (SSD 128G ~ RM300+).

yea before buying laptop, i'm wondering do ultrabooks have poorer cooling system than a traditional one/ on par with them? or it will become hot if only u play games using ultrabook?
*
ultrabook is slim, therefore it is not easy to fit in big fan or heatsink. The tiny space also restrict airflow, making it more difficult to dissipate heat.

ultrabook compensate by using Intel ULV (ultra low voltage) CPU, which run at lower TDP (thermal design power, meaning the CPU will only draw that certain amount of low wattage, 17W in ULV vs 35W in normal M, i7QM could draw 45W). ULV also could drop to lower wattage when idle (14W).

During normal usage (surfing net, typing Words, watching video .. ), ULV or M CPU generally is not stressed. But under sustained heavy load, the limitation in ultrabook cooling will show.

Anyway, if you intend to game on laptop or ultrabook, make sure you have good external cooling solution (cooling pad or table fan).

Wanna ask, are ultra books with HD4000 capable to play 1080p movies via HDMI to HDTV?

I'm afraid the cooling system is not that good, and also lag when u switch the display resolution to 1080p.
*
HD 4000 is more than capable of handling FHD (1080p) movie. (can actually play some old 3D game with HD4000 laugh.gif )
HD 4000 will not stress cooling system of laptop. Just make sure you keep the inside of laptop dust free smile.gif

If yes, quite a good deal you get smile.gif

Uni, what course? What software you need to use?
Generally, this A45VS should do fine smile.gif

yesh!! I'm actually stucked between asus and sony vaio that time. vaio SVS13116FGP in house promotion for only RM2299. also i5-3210, window 7 (ASUS windows 8), 640G HDD, 4G RAM, up to 12 hours battery life(which i think is really good). too bad its only 13.3' screen. At least the brand itself is reliable, great resolution.

I'm taking IT course so i'll be using borland C++, adobe dreamweaver. I'm fond of photoshop so i did some photoshop, after effects too.. =)

2. Budget : around 3k
3. Usage : net surfing, graphic design, play 3d games, see full hd movies.
4. Preferred laptop/screen size : windows 8, touch screen, light weight.

i am looking a laptop to match above conditions and i found lenovo ideapad yoga 13 but seen this model cannot play 3d games and full hd movies. Anyone can recommend me. thankyou.
*
If you want to watch FHD in its full glory in laptop, you need FHD screen (1920x1080). Alternatively you could connect to external FHD display through HDMI.

Intel HD 4000 could handle FHD movies / videos easily. So Yoga 13 could handle FHD movies, but it only has a HD+ (1600x900) screen.

What type of 3D games? CS and Crysis 3 both are 3D games, but have vastly different spec requirement laugh.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

If your graphic design work is heavy, you may appreciate i7 QM.

All in all, you need to make choices. Current gen of laptop could not satisfy all you requirement at once (especially at your budget tongue.gif )

i5 could handle all the C++ and Dreamweaver you throw at it biggrin.gif
Should be no problem at Photoshop as well, unless you are doing some complicated effects (tax CPU more).
After effect, the GPU could handle it, again unless you are doing some extensive jobs laugh.gif
