agree with you. post counts doesnt really matters actually. if lets say i get paid for the post counts, then i would be start making money by posting in the forums.

you are elder than me and more experienced, so should deserve the respect. smile.gif

1. Preferred Brand : Anything but Acer
2. Budget: about RM4000
3. Usage: Engineering simulation, gaming, presentation so not too flashy like AW or Asus G series.
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 15 inch
5. Warranty : min 2 years.

I'm considering the following
1. Lenovo Y500 SLI GT750M
2. Lenovo Y510p SLI GT750M
3. Illegear RE-15

Please advice or comment. Thanks.
*
Illegear RE-15 will be better. performance wise, the GT750M SLI is about 20% better than GTX765M but power drainage in Y510P will be faster compared to RE-15.

Hey guys, need some recommendation for a laptop for my dad. His current one was 5-6 years old and the motherboard 'kong' already, well according to some computer shop worker.

1. Preferred Brand : ASUS/Dell

2. Budget : ~MYR1k (not really sure if this price range is possible, sorry for the stupidity tho, am looong gone from the laptop playground tongue.gif )

3. Usage : Light document editing and music, maybe some movies occasionally. HDMI port is a must. (Does integrated Intel graphics sufficient for movie playbacks? no editing just sometimes my dad wanna kick back and enjoy some movies via HDMI to my house's home theater system.)

4. Preferred laptop/screen size : Anything between 14" to 15.6". (His current one is 15.6", might get him to suit better around the same size range.)

Nothing from Asus or Dell at that price range laugh.gif
You are asking a lot for the budget unfortunately.. tongue.gif

Closest:
15.6"
Lenovo Ideapad G580, B950 + Nvidia GT610M@RM1199, 2GB, 320GB, freeDOS, 1 yr warranty

Or you can go and find some older Inspiron 15. I remembered a few months ago there are variants sold at Rm1k icon_rolleyes.gif

Unfortunately high performance notebooks don't come in slim and light packages, you might have to compromise abit since your requirements are abit contradictory.
A business-line notebook perhaps?
14"
Lenovo ThinkPad T430U, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + 24GB mSATA + 500GB HDD@RM3799, 4GB, W7P, 3 years on-site warranty *there might be newer, W8 variants already

Or a Dell?
13"
[Ultrabook] XPS13, i5-3337U + Intel HD4000 + 128GB SSD@RM3399[1.36kg], 4GB, W8, backlit *use remaining budget to extend warranty to 3 years and also purchase a VGA adapter

If you are looking for a performance machine which is not too heavy and with a decent HD+ screen but with 2 years only:
14"
MSI GE40-2OC, i7-4702MQ + Nvidia GTX760M + (1600x900; anti-glare)@RM3999[1.8kg], 8GB, 750GB(7200rpm), W8

Or perhaps a 11" performance machine if you don't mind the smaller size.
11.6"
Illegear R-11, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT650M@RM2999, 8GB, 500(5400rpm), FreeDOS [CPU options: i5-3210M-i7-3630QM] *use remaining budget to extend warranty and upgrade to SSD
