Thanks for the info.

how different is this y410p compared to this:

-INTEL COREi5-3230QM 2.6GHZ
-6GB DDR3 RAM
-1TB HARDDISK (1000GB)
-WINDOWS8
-NVIDIA GRAPHIC CARD GT650M+GT650M (4GB)

dual graphic card is better?

Theoretically, GT650M SLi is better than GT750M
But sometimes it depends. But if your games doesn't support SLi, GT750M might have better performance.
Maybe you can take a look at here before you buy to ensure the games you play support SLi.

In processors, the difference is minimal between 4th gen and 3rd gen. If graphic card is your main priority, you should consider it first.
If I not wrong new Y410p support Nvidia Optimus technology which means switchable with Intel HD graphics to provide longer battery life; maybe you can confirm this by asking Lenovo thread or seller.
*
1. The specs that you quote seems to be some Lenovo Y series that is NOT local set (grey import). There has been wide spread report of Lenovo Malaysia refuse to support warranty unless owners could show proper receipt (read the 1st few post of this thread to get a better idea:
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2851949

2. If games don't support SLI, GT750M "definitely" is better than GT650M biggrin.gif

3. For 1366x768 resolution, SLI is really an overkill laugh.gif

4. Y410p has a few minor improvement compared to Y400/500 (built quality wise). Go to look at the actual unit to appreciate.

you can use the online chat system provided by dell and bargain with them.

EDIT - use something like 'RMxxxx and i will buy' and see if the agents accept it or not. if they dont, try increase your quoted price a little and little. when negotiate, negotiate with the price you desired 1st before increasing the quoted price.

Pay more $$$ to get more discount. From my experience, let's just say you just want to buy a RM1.7k Dell Vostro 5460, the Sales Agent would probably throw you a free bag only. If you pay RM2k, you might get RM50 off and that free bag. Last time I got my Dell laptop at RM3.6k I got like RM200+ discount and a free bag laugh.gif

Anyways, as for tips on how to bargain, you can just say you're a student and lacking $$$ as RMXXXX is the only amount you can afford, bla bla bla you get the gist laugh.gif

Hi Guys. I need some recommendations of getting a netbook or mini laptop. I have a 14' laptop which it is inconvenient to bring around.
Brand : Any besides Acer.
budget : < RM2000
Used : Office work, online and mainly travel purpose.
Screen : I think standard is about 11' ?
Other : It would be good if it has DVD drive.

thanks..

So far I've found 2 options.

Samsung 305U1A-A01DE and Sony Vaio SVE11115EG AMD E2-1800

Which is better? Or any other option?

well, the chat system is created for assisting and sales support too. the agents have commissions for this kind of work you know.

you dont need to if you arent buying as an installment plan. you can just bank in or inter-transfer to dell's account, provide supporting documents (payment evidence is enough i think) and send it to dell. once they confirmed payment, they will confirm your order and you are good to go and wait for your delivery.

Do you mean Acer V5-471G, i5-3337U + 4GB RAM + 500GB + Nvidia 710M + Win8 @RM1899 ?
I not recommended that. This is because..
-Since you doing video converting, its better go for standard processors (i5-M) instead of ULV processors (i5-U)
-Nvidia 7xx series have a wide range of graphic cards. But performance is vary for each cards. Nvidia 710M = Nvidia 620M . So 630M pawns 710M already.
-I think its hard to find something "light" in this budget which meet your requirements, but at least there is one:

Dell Vostro 5460, i5-3230M +Nvidia GT630M@RM1899[1.54kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), Ubuntu 12.04, 3 cell; W8SL@RM2099

One of the disadvantages of this laptop is its only have 1 RAM slot, so since you do video converting, I afraid that 4GB RAM is not enough for you if you do HD video converting, so if you upgrade into 8GB RAM with single RAM stick, its costly

Anyway, Dell provide good warranty, so even if spoil you can call them to fix it easily.

IMO, they just minus the backpack price. sometimes, you have to see the deals that is listed when you buy the laptop. some of the deals have freebies or cash redemption.

but the laptop doesn't come with backpack, need to add others RM 79 from normal price, RM 1749 for Targus backpack. so Total will be RM1828. So i think they give me student discount right. i think better if i order from garage sales.
