Hi guy, im looking around to buy a new laptop. have no idea on anything.

1. Preferred Brand: none.
2. Budget: Rm2.5k~
3. Usage: General using and gaming like Leaque of Legends, Skyrim, WOW..etc
*
Skyrim need powerful GPU to run smoothly. The best bang for your buck right now is this (up your budget a little bit):

Lenovo
Y410p, i7-4700MQ + GT750M(GDDR5)@RM2899, 8GB, 1TB, W8, red backlit, 120w psu, swappable ODD, 2 years warranty

Price is RSP, negotiable.

1. Brand - No preferred brand
2. Budget - Around RM2700-RM3000
3. Use - Gaming (Mostly for Dota 2, CS : GO, 2013 Games)
4. Size - 15 inch

Would like to run Dota 2 at high settings, and recently released games at mid-high settings. I don't know if this is possible with my budget, as I am very noob with laptops, paiseh ah. tongue.gif

With the budget, you are better off sticking with 14":

Lenovo
Y410p, i7-4700MQ + GT750M(GDDR5)@RM2899, 8GB, 1TB, W8, red backlit, 120w psu, swappable ODD, 2 years warranty

Playing at 1366x768, you can push most games at high details with GT750M.
Price is RSP, negotiable.

You want ultrabook with dedicated GPU, that restrict you to 14". Since you restricted to those 3 brands, your only viable choice:

Asus
K46CB-WX060H, i5-3337U + Nvidia GT740M@RM2199[2kg], 2GB, 750GB, W8, 4-cell, OD

Price is RSP, negotiable.
*
How about the Asus S550CB-CJ103H i7-3537U + Nvidia GT740M + 24GB mSATA + 1TB + (1366x768; touch)@RM3299[2.3kg], 4GB, W8?
I found from lelong.my this model is selling at RM3099. Just top up a little from my budget, so it's considerable. Is the Asus S550CB-CJ103H available in Malaysia Asus retail shop?

save your money and stick with the 14" K46CB smile.gif

the i7 in the S550CB is also duo core, not much better than the i5 in K46CB.
If you want SSD, you could buy a mSATA SSD 128G ~ RM300 and upgrade it into the K46CB and install OS and apps on it (the 24GB mSATA in S550CB is used for caching only).
Touchscreen on 15" is pretty much moot, as the screen is heavy will start to wobble once you poke poke on it.

with your budget, stick with 14", don't waste money on 15", and you could not afford 17" smile.gif
do you mean you need mSATA SSD? I think you will be better off put in more money and get a proper mSATA SSD (128G ~ RM300) and upgrade after market (and install OS and apps on it). Those smallish 24/32G mSATA is only useful for caching (a hit or miss).

hmmm...because my current laptop which is i5 dual core suffers some lagging when I do some debugging using Eclipse. So I'm thinking a quad core clocked at higher ghz might solve it.

Budget is a bit tight for 12" and 13" smile.gif
You don't need a powerful spec, i3 & HD4000 can satisfy your usage, just make sure the laptop come with decent wireless module.

There is no "reliable" brand per se smile.gif You need laptop that come with good warranty support. Since you mention international warranty, you better be specific on where you plan to use it. If a brand don't sell the model you bought in the country you bring it to, warranty support, even if available in that country for that brand, may be slow since there is no parts.

Asus (warranty support in Malaysia is iffy. Other countries should be fine)
K46CM-WX059V, i3-3217U + Nvidia GT635M@RM1899[2kg], 2GB, 500GB, 4-cell battery, W7HP, OD

Dell (extend warranty to 3 years, and it become international warranty automatically)
Inspiron 14-3421, i3-3217U + Intel HD4000@RM1399[1.99kg], Win8SL, 2GB, 500GB(5400rpm), 4-cell
Inspiron 14-3421, i5-3337U + Nvidia GT625M@RM1649[1.99kg], Ubuntu, 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), 6-cell; W8SL@RM1899
Inspiron 14R, i3-4010U + Intel HD4400@RM1549 [2.32kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8 , 4 cell
Vostro 5460, i3-3120M + HD 4000@RM1,549[1.54kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), Ubuntu 12.04, 3 cell; W8SL@RM1,749
Vostro 5460, i3-3120M + Nvidia GT630M@RM1949[1.54kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8SL, 3 cell

Lenovo (please check the warranty cover the country you go to)
Z400, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT740M@RM2099, 4GB, 1TB, W8; 2 years warranty
Z480, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT640M@RM1999, 4GB, 1TB(5400rpm) W8
G480, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT635M@RM1899, 4GB, 1TB (5400rpm), W8, 2 yrs warranty

what type of programming are you doing? No of lines of codes that you normally debug? i5 M normally handle Eclipse adequately hmm.gif
The lagging only happen in Eclipse? Maybe you want to check the setting and see it is using multi-core while debugging? Also check RAM usage (not likely a problem though hmm.gif )

Some Android app programming. Number of lines of codes that I usually debug is 500+. Sometimes 1k+ -.- Have to load the emulator before debugging some more. I also suspect maybe the main problem comes from Eclipse itself. Will check out the setting. Ram usage about 50-60 % usually.
Will be doin a clean format on my laptop soon. Hope the problem can be solved. rclxms.gif
