Oh thanks for suggestion, all this time ive been looking at the lenovo thinkpad, not the ideapad lol. Is the ideapad better? The Asus G series look pretty powerful too but is it pricey?
*
ThinkPads are more towards business usage, so the specs are usually not as good as those from multimedia/consumer lines nod.gif
ThinkPads are not really meant for gaming as well haha..
Still, they are of better quality when compared to the Ideapad line nod.gif

The G series is not as powerful as the Y500 in SLI mode though, pretty good machine with 2 years warranty (but do take not of Asus Malaysia's lousy warranty support).. Its priced at RM4k.
For around that price you can also opt for an Illegear RS-15 icon_rolleyes.gif

QUOTE(nuke13 @ Apr 8 2013, 11:19 AM)
I've been reading and reading about which brand to buy. I'm not new in buying laptop. I've bought 3-4 Acer, 2 Asus, 1 Compaq, 1 Toshiba, 2 HP minis and used my brother's dell netbook. Not for myself only but for my friends and family. I heard that Asus and Toshiba is good but to me not that good. I've used a lot of Acer from Inspire to Travelmate and I'm satisfied with them despite a lot of people saying Acer is no good. In the end of the day, I just need a reliable laptop that won't die on me for at least 3 years. Is that a lot to ask for a budget of RM1200?
*
Whether a notebook lasts or not depends on luck and also user care. And RM1200 is abit on the lowest end already, so try not to expect too much from a budget notebook nod.gif

Preferred Brand: Lenovo y500 without SLi @ New Acer V3
Budget: max RM3k
Usage: CAD/engineering software/movie

Torn between those two. V3 is best value but afraid on heat dissipation and gt730 capability for rendering?
Y500 a bit overbudget for me and need to upgrade RAM sumore.

Pls help me. Thanks
*
I'm not aware of an official Y500 without SLI? hmm.gif
Since your budget is the limiting factor, just get the Acer nod.gif
You won't go wrong with the IPS screen brows.gif
As for rendering, it depends more on your CPU instead (and the i7 processor is very good already); unless if you are doing 3D stuffs hmm.gif

1) No preferred brand.
2) Mainly for internet, movies, some photo editing, work.
3) International warranty preferred as it'd be used in Australia.
4) Budget under 2k but willing to go above if necessary and the extra amo.unt is truly worth it

Build quality is quite important too as I do have 3 small kids about.

An Asus would do just fine~

Hi,

I'll be buying a new laptop soon and hope to get some recommendation

1. Preferred Brand : Any as long as it's worth it
2. Budget : Less than 1.5k
3. Usage : General office task and movies (sometimes HD movies)
4. Preferred laptop/screen size : as long as the dimension feels comfortable for movies

Hope I'm not asking too much for the price. Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the thread thumbup.gif
Nope, you are not asking too much for the price haha~
Can consider these:
14"
Dell
Inspiron 14 (3420), i3-3110M + Nvidia GT625M@RM1599[2.1kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8

HP

[Ultrabook] Pavilion Sleekbook 14-b051TU, i3-2367M + Intel HD3000@RM1499, 2GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8

Lenovo
G480, i3-2348M + Intel HD3000@RM1299, 2GB, 500GB (5400rpm), FreeDOS; W8@RM1499
G480, i5-3230M + Intel HD4000@RM1499, 2GB, 500GB (5400rpm), FreeDOS

All these are good enough for your usage, its just a matter of design preference now haha~

Thanks for the prompt reply from many sifus. I tried lookup for more information for the laptops but I have some questions.

Dell New Inspiron 15
Dell Inspiron 14

In the 2 links above, I'm comparing the RM1399 15' laptop with the RM1299 14' unit. I'm just curious how come the 15' unit just cost extra RM100 compared to the 14' unit with a slightly better processor, extra 2gb RAM and extra W8 OS or is there any hidden information that I missed out?

Also I would like to know is touch screen feature useful and worth the price for W8 cause I have no experience with W8 yet. If so can sifu pls recommend me some budget laptops with the feature?

Hope that I can get some advice on these. Thanks!
*
Don't think you've missed out anything there laugh.gif
Perhaps 15" notebooks are cheaper to produce? tongue.gif

Touchscreen offers a better user-experience for W8, but then that is only applicable to notebooks which are "convertible" to a tablet format nod.gif

Any sifu, can help me about Lenovo Y500?

Why the seller telling me that this laptop has 2 graphic card which is intel4000 and nvidia 650? I read from the website said that this model is dual graphic sli which supposed to have to nvidia 650 work together.. and he tell me the warranty is only 1 year unlike website stated 2 years? Am i being cheated?

It does have Intel HD4000 within the CPU but you can't use it laugh.gif
It should come with 1 internal GT650M and another external, ultrabay GT650M nod.gif
Warranty should be 2 years

Preferred : 15.6" , i5 or i7 , if can ultrabook

found this laptop (duno isit good anot ) Asus S56CM-XX276H , sumthing like this.

Ultrabooks are not really meant for gaming because of the slim profile nod.gif
Still, if you insist on getting an ultrabook capable of gaming, then that Asus A56 is a good (and only) pick nod.gif

My friend looking for a laptop now instead of a desktop.

1. Preferred Brand - Any
2. Budget - Up to RM 2000
3. Usage - Football Manager 2013.
4. Preferred laptop/screen size - Prefer something slim/ small. Screen between 11" to 13".

So I was thinking something along the lines of Acer Aspire V5 11.6", but I'm not exactly sure what other models would suit his needs. Yes he just wants one for Football Manager 2013.
*
Can consider these two:
13"
Asus U38DT-R3033H, A8-4555M + AMD HD7600G@RM2199, 2GB, 500GB, W8

Samsung NP535U3C-A01, A6-4455M + AMD HD7500G@RM1899, 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8

Or any other equivalent sized ultrabook/notebooks with Intel HD4000. FM series are not very graphic demanding laugh.gif

Budget: around 2k
Usage: web surfing, watch HD Movies, light office usage
Preferred laptop/screen size: 10"-11"
*
Closest would be these
11.6"
Asus
VivoBook S200E, i3-3217U + Intel HD4000 + (1366x768; touch)@RM1799[1.38kg], 4GB, 500GB, W8; colors: Grey/Pink/White, 2-cell, 1 year
VivoBook S200E, B847 + Intel UMA + (1366x768; touch)@RM1499[1.38kg], 2GB, 500GB, W8; colors: Grey/Pink/White, 2-cell, 1 year

Samsung [Ultrabook] ATIV Smart, Z2760 + Intel GMA + (1366x768; touch) + 64GB SSD@RM2499[774g w/o keyboard], 2GB, stylus, W8; color: mystic blue

*The Asus doesn't really offer uber long battery lives because of the small battery capacity
*The cheapest Samsung is RM2.5k sad.gif
