between HP and ASUS, HP will be better compared to ASUS.

ASUS is just like BN, spreading good manifesto but fails to deliver the service quality.

acer is ok so far. but most of them says that acer is built of cheapo stuffs. but most of them are wrong if they know how to maintenance their laptop by cleaning the dust sticked at fan and heat sink.

not necessary to extend but for the sake of your conveniences and protection, its better to extend.

Can consider these two:
13"
Asus U38DT-R3033H, A8-4555M + AMD HD7600G@RM2199, 2GB, 500GB, W8

Samsung NP535U3C-A01, A6-4455M + AMD HD7500G@RM1899, 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8

Or any other equivalent sized ultrabook/notebooks with Intel HD4000. FM series are not very graphic demanding  laugh.gif

I'm mainly worried about the processor speed, as that game is processor intensive. Thanks!

1. Preferred Brand: Any
2. Budget: < RM4000, best if around RM3000
3. Usage: Video editing (currently using Adobe Premiere Pro CS5)
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: > 15", preferably Full HD (1080P)

Other points:
5. CPU: Powerful, preferably Intel i7

QUOTE(nexus2238 @ Mar 5 2013, 05:59 PM)
Usually brands allow owners to upgrade RAM after market, it will not void hardware warranty. 4G stick ~ RM80.
SSD don't come standard in lot of models. Again, owners can upgrade HDD after market to SSD, it will not void hardware warranty. SSD normally carry 3-5 years warranty from SSD brands. SSD 128G ~ RM300+/-, 256G ~ RM600+/-.

I checked around and it seems like the Asus N56VZ-S4284H is out of stock. One retailer told me that they may be releasing a new model soon. Does anyone know how soon will the replacement model for the N56VZ be out?

Also, I am also tempted by the G55VW since it can install more memory and better graphics card. Since it has been released about a year already, do you think I should wait for the new model or just buy the current model? Is there going to be a major technology breakthrough in the near future (like new Intel or nVidia architecture or a higher resolution screen) that will make this machine obsolete very soon? Thanks for your help smile.gif

buying IT products doesnt have trend like fashion do. if you can wait for new architectures, just wait. if you are in a hurry to get a laptop, you can get it at anytime from now on. AFAIK, the breakthrough of new technologies will be around May-July.

Video editing - You need powerful i7 quad core CPU. GPU is not that critical actually, unless you put 3D effects into your video. If video files you editing are big, more RAM is better (8G is sufficient, 16G if you are paranoid biggrin.gif )
New tech?
Intel Haswell CPU is coming out in (end) 3Q13. Won't do much in terms of raw processing power, main benefit is expected on better battery performance (draw less electrical power).
Nvidia & AMD is doing their usual yearly GPU release (this could last a long time). No major change in underlying chip architecture for this generation, just tweaking in clock speed, etc.
screen resolution - No. Screen resolution is pretty standard. FHD is good for you. Go for good quality IPS screen, you will enjoy it (the Acer V3, eg.)

G55VW has more RAM slots, but the GPU is fixed, you canNOT change it. Wait or buy now? See above on CPU & GPU.

fully custimisable (except GPU), can opt for very nice screen. If you go for 17", can fit in a SSD for OS and apps for better user experience, while keeping the HDD for storage of large video files.

sorry to tell you that you cant find 14" models with minimum 1600x900 resolution except XPS 14. some more the XPS14 is overpriced. you need at least 15" screen. however, best for your choice :

Lenovo Y400, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT650M@RM2799, 4GB, 500GB, W8, 120wPSU, swappable ODD
Dell [Ultrabook]Inspiron 14z, i7-3517U + AMD HD7570M + 32GB SSD + 500GB(5400rpm)@RM2749[1.87kg], 8GB, W8 *no VGA port, OD

not really fond of 1366x768 due to small workspace.
