If you are planning for prk, you can consider for trans prk as well, it's a newer and better technology, you would have a safer, lesser discomfort, lesser risk of complications and faster recovery as compare to prk, trans prk is known as "touchless", meaning that nothing touches your eyeballs throughout the surgery, prk use device to mark and remove the epithelium manually using a scalpel like thingy, but trans prk use laser to remove the epithelium before laser on the cornea to correct vision. So far, in Malaysia, trans prk surgery is only available at Advance Vision Eye Specialist Centre if I wasn't mistaken, and they are currently using the most high tech device, Schwind Amaris 1050RS for the trans prk surgery since April/May 2017. In Singapore, this procedure is already widely available using the same device. Cost wise if your power is low, you can opt for standard RM2988, if your power is high, you would have to go for customised RM5588 for both eyes.

From the video, you can clearly see the difference between the procedure of both of these surgery (the way they remove the epithelium) . And if you read further, you can understand more on why trans prk clearly outweigh prk as a better option for the eye surgery.

Con is just that the centre is always full of patients, you would have to wait very long for your turn, if you wouldn't mind about that.

I went to Advance Vision Damansara today, thinking bout doing refractive surgery. Im 26 and my power is approx -2.75 on both eye. Corneal thickness is approx 580 on both eye. Been using contacts and glasses before this. Hoping to be free of visual aid.

Went to advance vision last year for their part 1 eye checkup but didnt proceed with surgery as was going oversea for study.  Fast forward 12 month after, went to do another part 1 checkup, which didnt show much changes in parameters. I also did the part 2 exam with Dr Yeoh Phee Liang. He did 2-4 min eye check which i believe is a slit lamp and then check using a magnifying glass and directly looking at my eye as he instructed me to look at directions. After that he says im a good candidate for the surgery.

The only new thing in advance vision is that they no longer do LASIK surgery as they previously did when i came here last year and currently only offers TransPRK surgery using Scwind Amaris 1050S. Both eye for rm2988. Check few blog website shows that this machine is the most advance for transprk (as for 2017 entry in blog). I understand transprk takes longer time to heal but i dont really mind that coz no commitment at the moment.
Ive check background for Dr. Yeoh. Graduated dublin 1994, specialist FRCSE dublin 2001 (no speciality mentioned in NSR recorda). Seems like a nice guy. Does seem a bit rush doing exam with minimal explanation to patients unless asked.

Im sorta keen on doing it. But still on fence. Theres a few blogs saying their positive experience which mostly was for LASIK in this centre. I havent found anyone complaining about the centre nor Dr.Yeoh yet and this thread have minimal discussion for this centre. Does anyone got any suggestion/view?
