Seems like the price from Optimax is hiking every year...why? For intralaser LASIK in year 2009 is just RM3388/eye, Last year 2010 was RM3588/eye and this year RM3888/eye. They talk about promotional price of RM3688 today still more expensive than their last year's normal price. VISTA's price and others seems quite the same all along...seems like OPTIMAX is taking advantage of their popularity or something. Really felt cheated after doing some research online. Even their conventional blade LASIK also went up price. 2yrs back they charge only RM1388/eye but now a whopping RM1888/eye. Imagine that RM1000 extra for that "outdated" method.

Btw, anyone have any experience for the conventional blade LASIK? I believe it could have existed >5yrs back but seems like only those who do intra laser LASIk is sharing all their positive result and yet to hear anyone from blade and conventional LASIK.
*
Because I don't think many do conventional blade lasik as there isn't much incentive to choose it instead of all-laser systems.
Removing as much human factor as possible is a big advantage in terms of reliability.

anyone have solutions for dry eyes after lasik?

did intralasik in optimax 1 year ago and im still using refresh tears  sweat.gif

need to use 2-3 bottles each month, RM16.90+ each bottle, and the biggest matter is very troublesome as i need to use it every few hours

did u guys continue using eyedrops after lasik/intralasik? or actually stopped after a period of time? thanks for sharing your experience  smile.gif
*
I stopped using the artificial tear after just a few weeks.
Every person is different.
Maybe u should get a consult.

If raised 25 since a year ago, should be fine.
Consult the doctor there.

No offence to those who are afraid of doing LASIK.
I understand your concern.
But i will still LMFAO to those who can afford LASIK but still willing to live with the misery of wearing glasses & taking risks with contact lenses icon_rolleyes.gif

ps. Last week my friend had to got to a clinic due to the contact lens wondering into the back of her eye sweat.gif

I have been wondering the motivations of many young people interesting it LASIK/LASEK to remove the dependency on spectacles/contact lens "forever".

Q1) if the procedure is successful and zero side effects.. the benefit last 20++ years (spec-less). For those who did it lets say at age 21, after they reach 40++ years old, presbyopia  sets in.. so its back to using spec again.

Q2) the "lifetime" guarantee by many LASIK centres to correct vision is dependent on the cornea thickness of patient. There is a limit on how many times a cornea can be reshaped to restore visual acuity.

Q3) As LASIK has tampered with the cornea (same like eye surgery), what happens when we have cataracts when we gets old (which is common as we aged). The success rate of cataract surgery depends on the integrity of the cornea too.

So its doing LASIK /LASEK first, enjoy for the next 30++ years, then start worry bout "higher" risks of visual impairment when we gets older for many of us here?

Finally, with all the different pricing and promotions by the centres... it started to become like "plastic surgery" already. Is there  a regulatory body to ensure all these centres provide the best support/care for their patients?

This is a relatively new type of surgery.
Therefore no long term data is available.
As with all surgeries, there are risks.
We took an acceptable (to us who did lasik. May not seem acceptable to other people & you) risk.

As of now there is not much evidence to prove that lasik will be detrimental to our health in the future.
Of course that may change with more long term studies in the future.
Dependency on glasses is hazardous to me. I cant find a suitable sunglasses that can accommodate presciption lenses.
Without it, I can barely open my eyes while driving in full sunlight.

It is a no brainer FOR ME. smile.gif

5% of LASIK patients got damaged eyes?
I'd like to see some journal & research papers on that.

Because this type of surgery is NEW & has become MAINSTREAM very quickly.
& the fact that intuitively, laser & eyes don't mix very well.

& where did you get the 95% satisfaction rate?
Any reliable source?

Anyhow, the 5% dissatisfied doesn't mean 5% damaged eyes.
It could possibly be those who have high expectation but did not get the perfect vision after LASIK.
I did not get 20/20 vision but am perfectly satisfied.

Again, RELIABLE SOURCES please.
We don't entertain conspiracy-type websites.
Just do a search on GOOGLE SCHOLAR to find the papers.

I don't know if those are conspiracy type websites but they have sources of those information. Its really hard to ignore those information in those websites because not a single fact sounds untrue.

I was saving money for the procedure but after going through those websites and youtube videos I am now totally depressed. Seems like I have to live my life with glasses forever.

That's too bad.
I'm not going to stop you from believing whatever you want.
Meanwhile, I'm enjoying my life..glasses & contacts free!

QUOTE(DJJD @ Apr 27 2012, 10:37 AM)
I have a friend who has complained of having significant night vision deterioration post-lasik. Especially when driving on dark highway sudden changes in lighting (ie bright car headlamps after driving in darkness especially those HID lamps) can cause him to have serious glare and problem focusing.

He is however on the whole happy with the operation as previously his power was 600-700++.

Am considering but need to drive at night though......... blink.gif
*
How long after the surgery?
I have large pupil size & naturally suffer from glare without even noticing.
Before lasik, didn't notice the glare. Just after
I prefer to drive at night whenever possible.

Anyway, this is a known side effect so consult the doctor & decide for yourself if it is worth the risk.
For me, it is a no brainer.

QUOTE(alekzand @ May 27 2012, 12:50 PM)
Been reading through this thread...funny thing is i did LASIK before i stumbled on all the NO to LASIK info found here...here is my personal experience; I had my LASIK done at OPTIMAX Kota Kinabalu in January 2011. The procedure was without complications although i have to say i felt sensations of being drowned in a body of water probably due to the watery solution they used during the operation and they used clamps to force the eyes open, so you basically can see everything - hence the drowning sensation.

My post-op experience was not very pleasant - no i did not have pain, in fact i didn't even touch the pain medication they provided and i also did not experience any dry eyes syndrome. My complaint was that my vision was blurry for at least 3 days which left me dependent on the kindness of others, something i am not used to.

When i shared my concerns with OPTIMAX, they did further tests and conclude that it seems that my vision was not able to be corrected to the level they hoped but i was told i would need to wait at least 6 months - 1 year for my vision to stabilize before they could do any further correction.

As the months progressed i found my reading ability has improved tremendously but i was not able to see very far...views 25 feet from me would be a problem since it would become blurry...driving at night was not a problem though because the glares and halos complications disappeared after a month.

A year has passed and OPTIMAX agreed that enhancement can be done to correct my vision. As of today I just had the enhancement done on the 25 May...I waited additional 6 months before i had my enhancement NOT because I was told to do so but because i had work and personal commitments.

I would like to report i am VERY HAPPY with the enhancement result...i can now see both near and far. It was like the result i thought i should have gotten after the first procedure a year ago. Again there was no pain, just slight dry eyes and no blurry vision this time around...in fact i was pleased to wake up a few hours after the operation and open my eyes to clear vision. And did i mentioned that the enhancement was done free of charge? Yes i did not have to pay a single cent.

Again i'd like to remind that my experience with LASIK might not be the same for everyone. I just thought i'd share what i have lived through for the last one and half years. The decision to go for LASIK and throwing away my glasses and contacts were among the best ones i did.
*
Guess I had an even better experience.
I drove alone for the 1st day review rclxms.gif

Just try not to have a too high expectations.
Not everyone will get the perfect vision.
I don't but still night & day compared to wearing glasses.

Not sure if needs 2 weeks but contact lens concave shape forms the eye to do the correction. So may need a while for it to return to normal relaxed form.

Hi, i am interested to have lasik there as well. May i know which package you were going for? RM2,888 or RM5,888? The sale guy told me the only different is the night vision. You will see holo at night if you go for the former package. But i am wondering how serious is the holo? Can drive?

Thanks.
*
For an elective surgery, I'm perplexed that people are even considering trading a better vision for RM3000.
If I were you, I'd save up a little bit more.

I'm not saying that the cheaper package is no good.
It's the considering after knowing that it will probably leave you with the "lesser" eye that bothers me.

However, if any research proves that there is no significant difference, then by all means, go for the cheaper package. I know I will.
Think about it smile.gif

Glad to hear you guys are doing well after Lasik but still I am apprehensive about the procedure. What if Ectasia occurs years after the surgery ? There are so many reports about it. Just type 'corneal ectasia after lasik'. You will find several reports on it.
*
http://www.aao.org/publications/eyenet/200801/feature.cfm
About 0.04% at the most according to this.

QUOTE
So just how common is it? Fortunately, surgically induced ectasia is rare, though the number of cases is not known. “We don’t know the answer to what percentage of LASIK patients develops ectasia,” said J. Bradley Randleman, MD, who suspects the number is underreported. “We’ve been pretty good at screening out a lot of cases,” said Yaron S. Rabinowitz, MD, a member of the 2005 consensus committee. “I’m amazed there aren’t a lot more.”

“We estimated one in 2,500 cases, with older screening technology,” Dr. Randleman said. “I think there’s a good chance that it should be lower. With appropriate screening it will be one in 5,000 or less.”

Wish there was a risk free procedure to fix eyesight.  Have lasik and then constantly worry about getting ectasia, infection, inflammation etc in some point of time.  icon_question.gif

We misfortunate people who are not blessed with good eyesight are ready to cut our eyes open to get rid of glasses even if it carries serious complication. A person with good eyesight will never understand how it feels to have bad vision and how glasses affect the quality of life. sad.gif

No such thing & never will. Ever.
Maybe its just me..but I'm not in the slightest bit worried.

You should worry of dying in a car crash more.

I agree.
Weigh the risk vs benefits.
& I can guarantee that the benefits will far outweigh the risks.

I hear a lot of talk about complications blablabla.
Please, anyone here who did lasik & got complication, please share with us.

Those who have excessive paranoia about the long term effect of lasik should also be wary of new soft drinks (or just about anything) long term effects. Who knows what will happen in 30 years considering manufacturers put a lot of chemical & colorant in them rolleyes.gif
