Hi, all visual acuity test are done with light on, except for only a few test is done with light off.

Those shops that off light to take VA is not qualified optometrist.

hi Jialat

Are you certain about this ?

All the years , when the optometrist test me on snellen chart , they do switch off the light.

Even when I bring my children for eye examination by eye specialist doctor , the doctor do switch off the light as well. hmm.gif

I work in government hospital and locum in some eye clinics, none of the optometrist or eye specialist switch off light when checking VA, both old type snellen light box or projector chart.

hi Jialat

thanks for your information.

hi Jialat

Would like to ask for your professional opinion.

1)For those who has floaters , can they go for lasik treatment ? I mean reflactive surgery .
2)As a optometrist , are they able to detect/sees patient lens is clear or turn yellowish? If lens is not clear , is it advisable to go for reflactive surgery?
3) If ablation is not at the centre of visual axis , what will be the impact to the vision?

thanks

1. yes, floaters is from the back, not from cornea.

2. all qualified optometrist can detect cataractous changes in lens. sadly many optometrist in shops especially in chain stores dont even have a slit lamp or cant operate one

3. lights entering pupil out of treatment zone contribute to blur or shadow vision (ghosting) and starburst or halo effect
*
hi Jialat

thanks for your professional opinion.

1. noted
2. Do you mean by using slit lamp , optometrist should be able to see patient's len ? whether is clear or yellowish?
3. noted. is it possible flatten (due to reflactive surgery) of cornea will cause shadow vision (ghosting) ?

2. yes can detect lens color using slit lamp.

3. flatten cornea doesn't caused ghosting. pupil bigger than treatment zone does, or light enter through untreated cornea zone also do.
*
hi Jialat

thank you for your opinion

2.noted
3.does it common to have starburst or halo after refractive surgery ? or under what type of condition , post op patient will get it ? I mean starburst / halo?

4. is it common to have debris/white deposit left inside our cornea after refractive surgery ?Actually what is this debris ? Do you have any idea?

thanks

3. common in dimmed environment, its important to check pupil dilated size pre op to decide on treatment zone.

4. depends on individual, normally uncommon. need to be examined to determine what caused those white deposit

Refer to item 2" If lens is not clear , is it advisable to go for reflactive surgery?". Do you mind to share your opinion?

Based on all your comments/advice here and whatever you had share with readers here , I am quite sure you are very experience.

Just have 2 question here to seek for your professional opinion.

1)how to balance up vision for a post refractive surgery patient with one eye overcorrected and one eye under corrected ?Experiencing daily headache
due to this imbalance vision. What is the impact for overcorrected vision in future?

2)Scar on cornea surface caused by smile surgery, will it cause other problem beside impact on the vision? Do you have any idea?

thank you for sharing

if the crystalline lens is not clear or opaque, then you should not do refractive surgery. Wait till cataract is bad to disturb the vision, then get it removed and neutralized all the refractive error.

Q1. Need glasses to correct it. Contact lens not a good option for dry eyes even though retinal image size will be more balanced. overcorrected rx will give you eye strain, lead to smaller retinal image size, brain cant use it to fuse with another eye images, you lose the stereoacuity.

Q2. scar on cornea caused blurred vision, loss of transparency and clarity. your brain will use vision from another eye instead.
*
hi Jialat

Really appreciate your help.

Refer to Q1 & Q2 , If these 2 condition happen to one/same eye at the same time , what will the possible solution ? Is there a alternative way to get a comfortable vision or more balance vision to solve the headache issue?

talking about the scar on cornea surface , will it create other problem in future beside vision as mentioned?

thank you

you meant there is corneal scar post relex smile and there is residual refractive error and there is also cataract?

I will seek help from a good cornea specialist and correct the vision and remove the scar by femto lasik if the cataract is not very serious, as long as the scar is not very bad (need to check by specialist to know better). If scar is deep then its difficult to treat, vision can be improved by removing the cataract but scar still block the vision.
*
Hi Jialat

Yes , corneal scar post relex smile n residual refractive error ,ghosting vision, yellowish lens. all these happen to one eye . After went thru a long long long ..... way , these are the comment on my eye condition from the lasik centre.Even with spectacles , still cant get pre op VA 6/6.

"patient with high power and underwent refractive surgery will experience ghosting or shadow vision after surgery"

How true is this statement?

That statement applies to post relex smile, not common for femto lasik patient.

Hi Jialat

I think you are rite on this.

All the post refractive surgery patient that I get in touch with , none of them experience ghosting . their pre op power is much higher than mine and even their post K-reading is much lower than mine , none of them end up with this ghosting problem.

All of them underwent femto except 1 for relex smile , but her power is lower than mine. She also didn't experience ghosting.

Topoguided? I think its a very common procedure nowadays, we look at topography before we decide the candidate is suitable or not.

Yes he is back from UK but he has not got the lasik machine yet.
*
U mean orbscan ? Taken b4 surgery.

My power around 1300 plan to do lasik. Any recomendation for good doctor.

My pre op power add up only 1100 . done with surgery end with poor result - ghosting image , scar and quality of vision affected. Vision acuity poorer than pre op.

According to their doctor's opinion, all these poor result is due to my high power. hmm.gif IF THIS IS TRUE AND THE ONLY CAUSED , I WONDER THEY HAVE CREATED HOW MANY PATIENTS AND TO SUFFER FOR THE REST OF THIER LIFE????????

My power is lower than yours ....already end with this result.

My opinion
Think carefully....

hi there Really Confuse,

She did the surgery for almost 2 months already, so far everything is good. She can see without glasses of course haha but still in recovery state. The doctor said she need to wait at least 6 months to get to the full recovery state. Her eyes still got a bit blur 1 side from the surgery but it is very minor, since the doc said that 1 is the after surgery effect. Other than that, her eyes is will feel slightly dry under aircond, but with some eye drop everything will be fine. Next week she will go for another regular check up, hope got good news from the doctor.

Anyway, i still think the key to get recover fast is to rest more and dont face too much on electronic gadgets. hahaha...
Aside from my gf, how is your eyes Really Confuse?
*
Hi Miner88

 she is recovery well.

She underwent ASA ? Do you mind to tell what is her pre op power ?
May i know which surgeon ? Bc i am still looking for a good eye specialist .

Almost a year from initial surgery.
My case is quite complicated . one eye can function .but the other eye underwent relex smile really trouble me and affecting my daily activity.
Now doctors from lasik centre told me enhancement cant rectify my poor result and negative effect ...what is the use of lifetime warranty?????
Well , result of this eye will tell how good is this irresponsible surgeon.....
In touch with other post lasik patient ,none of them end up with this type of negative effect....

Yes. you are rite on this statement."Anyway, i still think the key to get recover fast is to rest more and dont face too much on electronic gadgets."

But my case is diff , i know well surgery not smooth . other doctor did washout (another eye surgery) within 1 mth due to debris left in the eye then created another scar.

That is y i say . " Choose your surgeon wisely"
