In Optimax, we can choose among PRK, Lasik and Smile.
In Vista, only Lasik.
Smile is the latest technology.
Anyone recommend other than Optimax, any clinic can do Smile in KL?

yes, there is a medical centre just started doing relex smile but again i wont strongly recommend smile because of too many complications.

pm me if you interested for the new centre info, they might still doing calibration for the equipment this week.

For Femto Lasik procedures, are there any recommended doctors for Optimax apart from Dr Stephen?

Try understand more among PRK, LASIK, SMILE and ICL. I personally recommend PRK and SMILE after going through more than 3 months of studying among them.

Just finished consulting Dr Ainur. Feeling quite sad actually as Dr Ainur told I shouldnt be doing Lasik for now since he detects small risk of developing keratoconus.

I just do my best to recall and deliver what i absorb (im no way a medical expert so forgive me if i quote wrongly). Comprehensive test was done by optometrist and result was interpreted by Dr Ainur himself. He first ask me purpose of doing lasik and continue to explain the belin test. Learned that it was a risk factor calculator for ectasia or keratoconus. Why it is so important to evaluate this is because keratoconus affects 1% of those undergoing lasik. It was indeed quite technical for me to absorb. All I could remember was I passed the central corneal thickness, steepness and some other criteria EXCEPT the K max value which was slightly above the normal cutoff value and therefore failed on me. Dr Ainur was quite firm he wouldnt operate on my eye as long as belin test detects a risk on me. I was unhappy actually when i learned the news and asked him if i insisted on doing it could u do this for me. He said no and it would be someone else if i had to carry on with the procedure. HECK!

He explained it’s also because i have quite high astig (close to 2.5) which might affect the value. Since Im also having allergy at times, he asked me to treat allergy for now and observe if things will improve. If my K max still above the cutoff value, then he wont give me a green light sad.gif

Really sad if i cannot be glass free anymore. ICL could be another better option but its just too expensive. For now I just hv to treat and monitor my eye and see what he would say later. Overall, I must say Dr Ainur is very ethical and doesnt hard sell his procedure. For those who have long list of questions, u will see him got delighted when throwing him questions. I had prepared a long list too but hold half of my questions since I might not even be suitable for it. Im just jealous of those that were given greenlight by him to do lasik.

I shall update again after seeing Dr Ainur in few months time.

Hi jialat, can I ask for your expert opinion on whether I am suitable for custom femto lasik if my dry eye test results are 4 and 6 for both eyes?

Was informed by optometrist that I can go ahead and I have my own reservations on this, thanks!

I did my femto-lasik recently, thanks jialat smile.gif
So far so good, my left eye was around - 8.0 and my right was around - 11.0.
Now my both of them are about 0 with some left over astigmatism( I had high astig previously around 3-3.5 iirc for both eyes).
Overall, I'm satisfied with the outcome. The only complication I have faced so far is dry eyes which is common. I would recommend you to do a full eye examination before you make a decision. I was told that if you possess a high power, your eye power "could" change after lasik

Hi, may i know where you did your laser? How much did they cost you?

I had very high power of myopia on both eyes:

Left eye~ SPH-9.00, CYL-1.00, AXIS-150, PD(D)30
Right eye~ SPH-9.50, CYL-0.25, AXIS-110, PD(D)30

Everyday wearing super thick eyeglass to work (weekday), and only wear contact on sunday/special ocassion. Always laughed by ppl due to my thick glass, last time was schoolmates & now are colleagues. Really want to get rid of my myopia but it seems like hard to make it. cry.gif

Hi all, has anyone here gone through LASIK at Sunway Medical Centre? Appreciate if you can share your experience as they are currently having promo for Relex Smile at RM 10k (both eyes) and femtolasik at Rm7588 (both eyes). I can't find any review for SMC's eye centre hence hesitate to go for checkup as most posts here emphasized on the importance of the surgeon who is going to perform the procedure. TIA for the info.

Relex Smile is a bit risky. Better going to Optimax. Lasik can go to normal hospital.

Relex Smile is more than 5 years in Optimax but it is still risky compared to other procedure such as PRK and LASIK.

If there are hospitals just started Relex Smile recently, please think twice. Even few years back by Optimax, I dare not try too.
