Is the Preve Turbo NVH quieter than say the Toyota Altis or Honda Civic? When idling, traveling at 60km/h or traveling at 140km/h, is the sound of the engine relatively quiet?

I test drove this Preve Turbo last Saturday. Damn, it is one powerful car that has better acceleration than most 2.0-litre sedan vehicles. I didn't test the top speed and just around the city but I can feel the strong surge when I stepped on the accelerator. The car just accelerated effortlesly with a strong surge, just like a race car. I am very impressed.

One thing I would like to clarify. Between the normal CVT automatic gear and the 7-speed manual gear transmission, how often do we need to use the manual gear? Or in other words - how useful in the manual gear compared to the automatic? I briefly tried shifting between Automatic and Manual back and forth, and frankly I think the Automatic is more than good enough and has sufficient acceleration power. I guess people will use Manual for more thrills or when want to overtake vehicles, but I feel the Automatic is also very powerful and has enough turbo speed and power to overtake vehicles too. What do you guys think? When do you use the 7-speed manual?

THe handling and NVH is also super although I didn't manage to test the car in high speed cornering or anything like that, but man I can feel the power in the Turbo engine. One small step on the accelerator and the whole car just moves forward like a train. Personally I think this is a good value-for-money car which is suitable for those who like sporty handling and a bit of Turbo speed for some racing mood on the highways.

i only need manual mode on hilly roads eg Karak highway, Genting. Uphill and Downhill.

Thanks for the information. Will try the Manual mode once I go to Genting for a one night stay. Last time I was going up Genting. I don't think the manual mode will come in useful when going downhill since it's mostly braking that's needed. When going uphill the manual mode might come in handy. I guess it takes a bit of practice to get to use the Manual gear effectively, since it's mainly based on "feel" to get the car at the rpm that we want.

I rarely use manual shifting. D or S is good enough. Even for hill climb, D is already ok. I only use S if there is need for sharper throttle response. Preve's design is more on smooth accel rather than rapid accel IMHO. The only time i use manual was for showing off to people in the car. smile.gif

I can't really say Preve's handling is sporty though, just that it feels well planted. Definitely VFM.
*
Sorry, what is S? Is it overdrive? Yes, I too feel D is good enough for most driving conditions even when transient burst of speed is desired when there is a need to overtake vehicles. The Turbo engine does help.

I didn't spend much time testing the Preve but I can feel the steering weight is just nice and responsive. Not too light and yet not too heavy. Just nice. Reminds me of the BMW 3 series steering when I drove one last year.

The reason you use manual mode during downhill is so that you don't need to use the brakes too much. It gives engine braking, how much depends on which gear you choose.

I use manual mode on downhill than uphill driving.

Ok, thanks for the tip. May I ask which gear was engaged when going downhill? 3? I was in Genting about 3 months ago. At that time when going downhill, I noticed every single car was going so fast downhill and I wonder how they do it. I can't seem to cope up with my Nissan Sylphy which seems to want to turn turtle with every bend.

So this is the upcoming Preve Hatchback? To me, the current Preve sedan looks better than this Preve hatchback. The proportions are a bit weird. It looks like a mini MPV instead of a sporty hatch. Looks like a Fiesta yet it's quite a bit longer. The Focus Sport's proportions look better. And the lights at the rear don't look good to me. Others may have a different idea.

Hi guys, just wondering, for the first 1000km, any of you guys drove higher than 110km/h? The Preve Turbo.

190km/h in LPT..  biggrin.gif

Before first service? I don't dare man. Anyway think I'll just try up to 130km/h. After the 1,000km first service, then I will test the car up to the limit, though I doubt I would go above 180km/h even though the Preve Turbo can achieve 210km/h top speed.

Thanks man. 200km/h is quite fast. Hope I can get to 1000km as soon as possible so as I can't test the car to the limit.

It is good that the Preve Turbo can achieve a top speed of 210km/h as most 1.6-litre sedans(non-Turbo) usually hit the plateau at around 185-190km/h. The engine sound of the Preve Turbo must be very loud when approaching 200km/h. When I did 196km/h top speed in my Waja 11 years ago, the sound of the engine feels like it is going to explode or something.

Is the engine of the Preve Turbo bearable when cruising at 150km/h?

Hi, sorry to disturb. as i just got my Preve and i found some funny things and come online and check.
as here you are talking about the centrol door lock.  would like to clarify that
1) under the Child Protection lock is FREE,  if central locking is applied, passengers in rear seats still can open the door by pulling the inside handle twice
2) under the Child Protection lock is LOCK, no matter central lock is lock or unlock, read seats passengers can't open the door; there must be someone who open the door from outside.

Any one can verify my statement is correct or wrong? or something wrong with my preve?

for my situation, i got kids always will sit in rear seats.  but once a while got adults passengers will sit rear seats. now i feel confused, which mood i should apply... if i set child protection lock is LOCK, then i need to open the door for rear passengers always. if i set Child protection lock is FREE, when i only drive my kids, i worry about they play with door handles also....

according to my proton sales agent, he said those high end car like BMW got such locking system.... but i used to drive those old fashion car, i guess will take time to get used to it...
*
If your kids are playful and don't really obey to instruction, just set Child Protection to LOCK.

If your kids are not so playful and are obedient, you have the option to set Child Protection to LOCK or UNLOCK.

Nowadays kids are surely playful and don't really listen to orders, so it may be wise to set the Child Protection to LOCK. I think most cars have this car lock feature. It is just a matter of whether the parents want to go with the hassle of locking or unlocking the Child Protection.

Hi guys,

Would like to ask about YES 4G account that comes together with the Preve Turbo. The package which comes with RM60 credit x 12 months. Questions as follows:-

1) How much data is equivalent to the RM60 credit?
2) How can we check how much data/credit that has been used at anytime?

Thanks.

1) about 2GB+ if without any valuepack. If you buy with valuepack, rm25 = 1GB, rm60 = 3.5gb rm150 = 10gb
2)just go yes.my and check
check above.
but if no valuepack is just 9sen each 3mb

Thanks. Went to the Yes website but didn't manage to find anything on the bundle that came with Proton.

Anyway, I can't connect to the Yes device using my smartphone. Shucks. The message is "Check ID". I am wondering what went wrong.

I can't wait to have the car serviced at 1000km to fully enjoy the performance of the Turbo. The acceleration of the Preve Turbo is surely powerful. Just one small step on the accelerator and the car jerks forward as if there is a monster in the engine waiting to be unleashed. Just a powerful car.

Two minor defects that need to be sorted out during first service. A small rattling sound from the air-cond vents on the right of the driver seat, and the long plastic piece of the windscreen control at the driver's seat is not tight and a bit loose.

If these two minor issues are sorted out, this Preve Turbo is just perfect - nothing can touch it below RM100k in terms of power and performance in ride and handling, except maybe the Inspira which I have not test driven(dont' quite dig the looks).

Certainly value for money at about RM70k. Love the acceleration power of this thing.

Forgot to mention about the suspension. New cars are new cars. Nothing beats the experience of new vehicles. The suspension is rock solid and driving over bad roads and potholes, the sound is a a soft thud, like continental feel. Sound from bad roads are pretty much subdued. In other words, the suspension is quiet and doesn't make any nasty noises.

Coupled by the power in acceleration, the Preve Turbo is surely rock solid.

For the Preve Turbo, may I ask what is improved after the 1000km first service is done?

Currently the noise of the Turbo engine and CVT gear is slightly loud. Not really a serious thing but was just wondering if the noise will be slightly softer or subdued when the car has gone through the 1st service.

Thanks.

Also, will the acceleration of the Preve Turbo be smoother after the first service, especially when accelerating in low speed say 0km/h to 30km/h? I am surprised that even with CVT which the character is supposed to be smooth, the car feels too powerful as with a slight step on the pedal, the car lunges forward like a beast. Is this an inherent character of the Turbo? Man this car is too powerful.

Report back to us after 5000km/mileage, what is your best achieved x.xlitre/100km?

when accelerating forward from idle, there is no feeling of reverse thrust during low gear from ECU? Must be new ecu setting then?
*
Hi there,

SOrry, Not too sure what is the feeling of "reverse thrust" during low gear. I presume the car does a short distance acceleration and not a gliding type of acceleration to cover a longer distance when you mention "reverse thrust"?

Right now, when accelerating from idle, all I can say is the acceleration is very powerful. Just a small light step on the accelerator and the car lunges/jumps forward as if it wants to go into racing mode. Unlike the Nissan Almera that I tested which the car doesn't seem to want to move forward even when I exert moderate force on the pedal. Such opposite character.

anyone knows what's the best deal for preve CFE now? will go and test drive tomorrow and wants to compare what are the deals offered.

RM3500 is standard discount for the Preve Turbo with additional RM1000 (which will render the total discount to RM4500) if you trade in your existing Proton vehicle. OF course they may just deduct more from the trade-invalue of your Proton vehicle, but still a pretty good discount.

For performance, accelerating power and interior space, there is nothing that can beat the Preve Turbo below RM100k.

Anybody knows if the Proton service center "Proton Edar Centre Of Service Excellence" along Kesas highway KM33.8 Westbound Shah Alam Expressway is open today? What time does the SC usually open? I tried calling the number to arrange for a service booking but it went into the telephone mailbox.

Thanks.

Any rattling sound from dashboard and doors at your mileage above 30000km?

Last time when the Proton Waja was launched, Tengku Mahaleel described the car as the Asian BMW. Now the throne has been taken by the Preve. The Inspira can't have that title as it is essentially a Mitsubishi Lancer rebadge with some minor tweaks.

This Preve Turbo is surely one powerful car.
