Hey,
My wife just came across your thread and she was talking to me about it over breakfast. And your experience got me thinking about the same SHITTY experience I got at the end of last year with this Lady Boss/Vonza/Decor Point/Deep Living etc. Point is the said Lady Boss micro manages all these companies and dealings. She is not a pleasant person to deal with and to be honest, I don't know how she managed to expand her business until today. Moreover, the quality and design of the products are rubbish - but possibly coz of One price, One product?
The story goes...
Couple of 'Perfect Livin' expos ago, we were looking for some home reno items and we came across Vonza's sofas. If you compared their sofas with the other suppliers @ Perfect Livin, I would say their sofas would appear as decent. At that time, the only sofas I've really explored were the ones from the suppliers at the expo coz I haven't had the time to visit other shops. My wife thought the L shape sofa was decent for its price.
Few expos later, it was time to buy our sofa so we visited the expo yet again and this time, without exploring further, I paid a deposit of 50% for the sofa because I had thought that my wife was happy with the sofa. She thought I liked it, and I thought she liked it...
At this point in time, we hadn't decided on the color nor size so the deposit was to merely lockdown the expo discounts.
After some research, we realised that their sofa's fabric were fire retardant and most fire retardant sofas will have to be treated with chemicals that could cause cancer. Not feeling comfortable, we went to their showroom to try the sofa again to see if we would go with the leather alternative. Soon realised that the sofa isn't actually as comfortable as I'd like it to be and the leather alternative looked and felt simply awful.
We decided to cancel our order and to be fair, I respect the fact that the deposit is non refundable. Again, nobody told us that the deposit was non refundable coz on the day of the expo, the parttime sales person and even the lady boss said we could change to anything else (ie mattress etc) at their shop if we wanted to.
Nobody specified clearly that the deposit is non refundable - but i blame myself for this because I should have read the back of their receipt for the terms and conditions before signing it.
Nevermind that. So we went to their Puchong HQ to discuss our intention to change for something else in the shop. They tried their best to convince us that the fabric used for their sofas were not fire retardant (that was a lie because it is clearly stated in the Spec sheet for the Acacia fabric).
At this point in time, nothing in their shop seemed decent and met my requirements. I decided to change it to a bed + mattress for our guest room since we already bought our mattress from somewhere else. The staff couldn't make any decisions so they had to call the lady boss and we had to argue several times over the phone (many times she just put the phone down when she felt she was uncomfortable). In the end, she allowed us to change to an Englander mattress because I suspect the margins are better as compared to the King Koil ones. Almost giving up, I agreed with that and they wrote me a new receipt to change the deposit to the mattress. The manager at the Puchong HQ was actually quite helpful and we appreciate that he tried to help us negotiate a deal knowing that the lady boss is very cunning.
I left the showroom and later that afternoon, the lady boss called me. She insisted that she had paid the commission to the sales person for the sofa BUT that isn't really my problem is it...all i did was paid for the deposit to lock down the discounts at their shop (strange idea i know after thinking bout it). Usually I let my wife do the negotiations etc. BUT this time I was boiling and I yelled at her for not keeping her words. After all the trouble I went through, I was almost thinking the 2k isn't worth all this trouble. I gave her 2 options: 1) Honour her words and deliver the mattress as per receipt 2) I go to the consumer court if the mattress isn't delivered on the agreed date as per receipt and get whatever I can even if it is RM 1 after all the admin fees whatsoever.
She hung up the phone after that and I didn't want to call her back. I waited for the week of the delivery and someone called me to tell me that the mattress isn't in stock (Nice try..). I said I would give them few more days to obtain the stock and then have it sent to me at a time convenient to myself. They delayed the delivery again a few days later but eventually, they came and installed the bed. After some horror stories I've read about their bad installations, I watched their crew very closely in case of any damages etc. Fortunately, the crew sent was quite polite and careful. They even told me that their lady boss was a nice woman. I told them my story and they said it could have been a miscommunication - I really wonder what these guys are thinking. If their boss would treat their customers like that, what more the employees?
Once they left, I told myself NEVER EVER to buy from any of their shops and affiliates whatsoever...ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE...
I was fortunate enough to get something for what I've paid BUT this is simply not what I would expect.
I hope with this thread, more people would be aware of such clowns and be very careful where they spend their money.
Is her name May Siow too? Same person I dealt with in that link I provided? She manages the store in PJ too..not sure about Puchong
