The Punch CVT doesn't limit at 5k rpm. Its maximum rev it could take is 6,000rpm. That is why Proton limit the rev on all CVT cars (except Inspilah) to 5,500 - 5,750rpm.

the only plausible explanation is the cvt system itself.

you were cruising (economy mode) then suddenly you went WOT, so the CVT automatically shorten the ratio for you to gain more accel (full sports mode) and as your speed climbs, the CVT widen the ratio back (gradually going back to economy mode).

Did you lift of your foot even by a slight margin after you WOT? Because that's a massive drop. Usually the transition from economy mode to sports mode then back to economy mode doesn't cause the rpm to fluctuate that much (in the case of my gaga the crap car).

coz if your foot stays on the pedal, then the transition will only cause the rpm to fluctuate within 500-600rpm.

last time Perdana price is around RM 105,000-110,000.

But I don't think a Perdana replacement model is imminent. After the PReve hatch, the next car is the new global small car project. Then from that small car, will spawn a saga replacement model, so the saga FLX is to stay, for a very long time more.
