It's advisable to converse more frequently with your friends and ask them to correct the wrongly pronounced words for you.

Watching Mandarin dramas (local or foreign) which not be so helpful if you can't catch up with their pace of conservation.

Worst come to the worst, you may need to go to language centre.

yeah agree. watch more taiwanese drama... or u can watch those korean or japanese translated drama. the mandarin is very very accurate. i come from an english speaking family but i can speak mandarin fluently, thanks to those tv shows. lol. but too bad, i cant read or write. i just know a couple of words from my friends. but i know chinese poems too. lol. u can learnt idioms from those chinese kung fu drama where they speak the perfect intonation and where there are loads of idiomatic words in the lines.

oh - no point learning mandarin through songs IMO. strangely, words like 心 which in school we are taught to pronounce as 'xin' and in dictionary also 'xin' is frequently pronounced as 'shin'.

watch show not so bad la, like watching Singaporean shows - their mandarin really close to ours. watch Channel 19 on Astro (AEC) and you'll get a lot of mandarin shows.

listen to radio now i think might not help much, coz u duno what they are speaking? or u can catch all the time wat ppl say but only can't speak? tv got human beings show u their intonation, with their movement of mouth, gesture, emotions, u will learn more from there
