My office Maxis is broken right now - traceroute to the Internet drops dead in the Maxis network.

Just an update on Maxis Business Fiber. The 24-month 50% off promotion is legit and I'm always surprised how little we pay for it compared to Unifi Biz (legacy fixed IP package)

Just replaced Unifi with Maxis broadband as I'm really fed up with the congestion with their Singapore peering circuits... And the price.
In my housing area maxis has their own FTTH infra (underground vs aerial for tm). Pppoe runs over vlan 11 here. The VoIP isnt working yet. No idea why. Gonna call Maxis to enable public IP for my account later. The supplied Thomson router is horrible for a power user. After trying to set it up for 30 mins, I decided to just switch back to the mikrotik. |

One of the problems with the private IP is the short timeout they have. My SSH sessions are timing out after idling for a little while, I'm going to have to enable keepalive until I get a public IP.

QUOTE(MystiqueLife @ Dec 2 2014, 08:51 PM) No that's not the reason. It was capped correctly on day 1 when the installer came. The only thing that changed after that was that I requested for a public IP yesterday, which I have switched to. Frankly I'm afraid of disconnecting to check if switching back to private IP will cause me to be capped again If this lasts long enough, I'll look into getting a GPON modem with gigabit ports to try. |

Hmm ok, checking the data sheet of the Huawei HG8240 it does have gigabit ports, and my Miktrotik links with it at 1GE.
Gotta dig further to see why I'm limited to 100Mbps then. |

Ahhhh too bad, I can't get past 100Mbps
Tried connecting the GPON modem to my laptop directly, to rule out the router's cpu limit. Tried logging into the modem to check whether it really is connected at 1Gbps, to rule out any link negotiation problem. Tried another speedtest server, to rule out the local servers being limited to 100Mbps. |

QUOTE(MystiqueLife @ Dec 2 2014, 10:20 PM) It looks like it have a better spec that the stock router, isn't it? My bad, on the box it says 1x1Gbps, 3x100Mbps. What the heck Seriously? I called up the CS and they informed all their router only has 1 GbE at LAN 4. The stock router lacks stuff I need - VPN client, static routes, and traffic shaping. Not that I need traffic shaping anymore though |

My first bill just arrived in the mail. Can the bills be viewed through the MyMaxis online portal?

QUOTE(darthobiguan @ Dec 27 2014, 11:32 PM) Are you hundred percent sure? I do enterprise networking for a living. So I am quite sure what can and what cannot be done on a 802.1Q trunk. Not really answering your original question, but you could insert a cheapie mikrotik managed switch to bridge between the fiber modem and your router.Does anyone else here knows the username and password to the TM's GPON fiberhome AN5506-04? |

Argh... my connection to any service that looks up reverse DNS is slow because the Maxis DNS servers are not responding for my IP
$ host -t ptr 161.247.192.14.in-addr.arpa ns5.maxis.net.my ;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached |
