Not sure if I should speak out....*gulp*

Maxis does not throttle users, esp those doing P2P torrents and other heavy downloads. They are facing issues some issues though with their network due to sabotage cases around PJ area. I know one of their main links near Kota Damansara was down for more than 48 hours early this week due with fibre cables being cut.

Capping will not come anytime soon, for both TM and also Maxis Home. Same goes to TIME. Rest assured, if one of the telco players activates that, the others will follow closely.

We regret to informed, during 8pm to 2am, only P2P traffic will be affected where the speed will be capped to 500Kbps .
Thank you.

I don't know about others, but I've been torrentting on weekly basis between 8pm to 2am (on Saturday and Sunday, as that's when the drama I watch got uploaded / subbed).

Depending on the seed (as the torrent is freshly uploaded), the speed usually ranges from 60KB/s to 450KB/s (usually 60KB/s to 150KB/s for the first 1 hour, after updating the tracker again the speed rises).

Anyone here using Thomson Technicolor TG784n v3 Router?

Mine randomly crashes on me (only MIGHT occur when plugged via ethernet cables with network connectivity, works perfectly fine via wireless connectivity) and when it crashes, it'll just CONTINOUSLY crashing (for few hours and might not even recover, every few minutes).

Basically the loop's like this: Router Crash > Auto reboot > Start up > Connected to broadband > phone 1/2 active > connecting to internet > fail or success does not matter, after the router's up about 1minute ~ 3 minutes from its previous downtime; it'll crash and start from beginning again.

The only solution is to disable network / computers connected via LAN cable (or directly unplug all of 'em) and use wireless only; but definitely not a permanent solution as my workstation does not have any wireless connectivity built in. Another solution is to let it reboot by itself and hope that it'll recover (fastest is solved within 1 reboot < 3minutes); worst is what I'm experiencing right now, rebooted for almost 2 hours and it's finally stopped (and I hope it lasts)

Happened to me last month (around early August) and manage to "solve" it by hard-reseting the router. Been trying to figure out the exact cause by no luck (only manage to scope it down to "Ethernet Cables w/ network connectivity"). It happened again recently and it's really annoying to have to deal with it all over again doh.gif.

Hope that anyone here could shred some lights.

Also, as I'm really pissed off with the current situation, I've gave Maxis CS a call and requested for a #@*&(* new unit of router and I really hope that will be the permanent solution. Heck, even my previous TG784n (the first generation, thick-square-white-box version) NEVER encountered such problem. doh.gif

EDIT: Right, got back into the crashing loop again within 10 minutes. This is disappointing.

Changed it!
You can replaced with TPLink / Asus or some other brands as long as they support vlan tagging.
*
But to use the VOIP feature we'll in the end still need the Thomson Router, right?

I've replaced my maxis setup, I'm using Buffalo router running OpenWRT and voip is directly connected to the Huwaei HG850a.
*
QUOTE(syk @ Sep 4 2013, 10:13 PM)
Yes, we can connect HG850 for VOIP function.
*
How about Huawei-ONU HG8240w? Interested to know more as I've always wanted to switch to other routers for reliability but the VOIP is holding me back.

Are both of you on land-based building (direct FTTH) or high-rise building (VDSL to end unit)?

If it's doable I don't mind buying a much more reliable router (as compared to what I face).

On a side note, they have replaced the router for me today (better efficiency than what I expect, as I called them on 9pm yesterday and they came on 3pm today to make the replacement). Hope that the same problem would not occur or else I would really have to seek alternative permanent solutions.

Mine is actually on TM fibre and not the Maxis fibre, hence the old ONU model that I have. I was with Unifi and terminated my account and migrated to Maxis.

Looking at HG8240w, there is a TEL1 & TEL2 ports and I believe reading the manual, it has dual support, SIP & H.248. Save the current config you've, go and play around with the ONU, if something goes wrong, just restore the old config and restart again. Sorry, no experience on HG8240w.
*
As a matter of fact, mine's on TM fibre as well.

I have tried to play around with HG8240w yesterday but too bad, I couldn't access the configuration page at all as there are no gateways from that ONU. Tried setting some static IP on the same subnet mask as the modem's default subnet mask for the gateway but to no avail. cry.gif

Are you connected directly to the ONU or to the router? Get your PC connected directly to the ONU's lan port.
*
Well of course I connected it to the ONU directly whilst experimenting. There's no gateway IP at all (I did configure my network adapter to use a fixed IP of '192.168.1.88' with subnet mask of 255.255.255.0). By right, the ONU's gateway SHOULD be accessible but I've tried many times, even trying it out with different range of fixed IP and/or subnet mask but to no avail.

Since I don't have the one that you've .. here is the table that I found in the user manual (can be found on google search):

You don't need a gateway, just set your fixed ip to 192.168.100.100 or something (default IP for the unit seems to be 192.168.100.1 as per the manual).
*
That's exactly what I did, but still could not access the ONU sweat.gif

Also tried restarting several times as well as using different ports rclxub.gif

Guys i need your input. Especially those who stay in apartment and they give you a DSL cable(phone line) rather than fibre optic.

They say it's apartment's fault (using old telephone switchbox) and thus the result is higher latency.

My ping to google is around 30 ms even after they have changed my modem and router (means no change, waste my time). But it should be 10ms and below.

They(technicians) have asked me to do a survey and i need proof so that i can kasi balik those lausy technician and do a real fix to the problem.
*
That is pretty normal. I used to stay in rented apartment before transferring back to my home (landed). Yes, the ping is around 30~50 due to the VDSL copperline they used (Fiber to Riser, VDSL from riser to home unit).

Thanks for the heads up. I am going to bug them somemore to see if they can change it to fibre. I paid for fibre, not a dsl.
It does, but not when you complain too much. They re-route your connection on the backend thinking they have fixed it but it actually made it worse.
*
QUOTE(GothFebrio @ Jan 16 2014, 08:15 PM)
if your high rise is using copper(did not have fibre pulled from the ground(if available) to your house, blame the house developer for being cheap), TM/Maxis cant do anything about it.
*
^ what he said.

They certainly can change to fibre, if you are willing to pay and your developer/management is cool with you doing the extensions (pull from their fibre distribution point ----> your high rise unit, based on per metre basis laugh.gif).

Nevertheless, copper VDSL is still not too bad. Even if you have paid for fibre, but if your location doesn't support it, they pretty much can't do anything.

Just my 2cents, though.

I would like to ask whether yours have experience like me or not. My line already suspended 1 year. Recently think wanna relocated my line to another place. Their customer service told me even i relocated my line i still can't get RM118.00 package that means i need take RM148.00 package. Is it true?
*
I don't know for now, and I can't be sure. But based on my personal experience, I relocated sometime back in July/August 2013 (high rise near KL ---> landed unit outside KL), I'm still eligible for RM118 package (as it's just a reallocation, not termination). HOWEVER, you will be charged for reallocation fee (I think RM200, to be reflected in your bill).

Do you guys suffer massive slowdown in download speed from some US and Europe site since last week. My company is using Maxis 32M BizFibre and we really heavily for the connection to Amazon cloud US for daily operation, the download speed I get get now is only 10-15KB/s with direct connection (no other traffic). With the other leased line and also Unifi at my home, I can easily get 300-400KB/s. I also tested in my brother house (which use Maxis Homefibre 10M), the speed is very slow too.

Already complained to Maxis they don't seems to bother, just told me still investigating, now says wanna send people over to check. Really sucks. Send people to check also no use, its peering and routing problem.
*
Noticed that too! Very bad ping / massive delay (or what we call 'rubberbanding' in game) to US / EU servers, since last week as well.

Don't mind helping too, since I'm facing the similar slowdown issue (since last week)

After almost two to three weeks of slowdown to US servers, and unsatisfactory answer given by Maxis (they called and told us that upgrade will be held in coming 1 to 3 months to resolve this issue, with no exact date / guarantee), and decided to close the ticket with the above remarks. Decided to log a case to CFM (albeit I doubt it'll help to resolve the issue).

The thing that I couldn't get it .. why the sudden slowdown? They must have put something in that causes the slowdown? I believe I'll get the same answer as you got there.

It has been almost a month, and I'm still getting this:
And we already have another Unifi up and running, yes, purposely signed up because Maxis did nothing.
*
Their support is hopeless anyway. 99% of the time still investigating and the 1% of the time they get back to you, it's as if they did not answered anything at all.

have you guys thought of filing an official complaint to SKMM and cc-ing Maxis Fibre? since we have them (SKMM) why not complaint to them too.
*
So far I have only filed complaint through Maxis and CFM, haven't file it through SKMM yet. Will try it if there's no progresses.

You should report via SKMM instead of CFM. CFM is actually under SKMM, therefore you should know who has the bigger authority.

Personally, I have positive feedbacks regarding SKMM.

1. Maxis mobile internet user having problem accessing Clash of Clans game. It was blocked by Maxis out of the blue. After almost 1month++ of rage through Maxis forum, SKMM report by a group of users, it was rectified.

2. OKU discount for Home Fibre. Signed up for Maxis Home but before installation, Maxis already removed it. Waiting for more than a month before the installation commence. After that, they billed me the normal price. They did not rectify it after 2-3 trips to Maxis Center, and I went straight with SKMM. Took just a week to get it done

The thing is that once you go the SKMM route, your case will be handled by another department in Maxis, specialized for SKMM or high priority customer service (My guess since the person in charge of your case will keep calling back to update from time to time). They will call you back in few days time after the first email confirmation from SKMM staff.

If you asked me, I think Maxis throttle the connection is very likely. I noticed that I have no problem accessing the sites which load up pretty fast. Even when uploading to Youtube or Amazon Cloud itself, it is pretty good. Just the downloading sucks. I cant think of anything other than an evil handbrake.
*
Hmm if that's the case, I guess I'll just file up another case under SKMM (since CFM's one still "under investigation"). Thanks for the heads up wink.gif
