The poison running strong in my veins... hahaha! I started with the 7938 Passenger Train, then 7939 Cargo Train... 3677 Red Cargo Train and 10219 Maersk Train still in unopen box, waiting for free time to build again... wink.gif

I think 3677 will be the next set to be discontinued so better start planning! icon_idea.gif

Hi bro, I believe 7938 Passenger train has yet to be discontinued right? Planning to get it for my city on Either Mid April or early May.

Hopefully by then haven't discontinue sad.gif

Hi bro, current Lego City train sets still in production are:

10233 Horizon Express (Released year 2013)
3677 Red Cargo Train (Released year 2011)
7938 Passenger Train (Released year 2010)
7939 Cargo Train (Released year 2010)

Hmmm... so perhaps 7938 and 7939 should be coming to end of production soon and not 3677. Quite old already... haha! The release of 10233 Horizon Express should be an indication of the impending retirement of 7938 and 7939.

7938 and 7939 still very easy to find. Lots of stocks floating around and prices has come down to pretty much record low so it is the best time to pick up these sets. For anyone wanting to go into trains and especially Power Function trains, I'd say start with 7938 Passenger train. It's the most affordable train set out there period!

If you have the budget and want a more fun track layout (because the 7938 only comes with enough tracks to make a circular loop, read boring!) either buy 7939, 3677 or 10233 to go with it (this will be the best) or buy extra tracks.

Also do take note that straight tracks are hard to come by so you may want to focus on buying sets with straight tracks. In BrickLink straight tracks cost around RM5 and up while curved tracks is only asking for under RM1!
*
But i thought Horizon Express doesn't come with tracks?
My concern for Horizon Express is, it doesn't come with power function ready.

I know they have an extension kit for that, but would means my cost will be higher.
Since its my 1st train, and i kinda like passenger train's design. I'll get it tongue.gif

Hey..your Lone Ranger minifigs is tempting...hahahaha
*
Hehehe yup its tempting, the revolver is going to be the perfect gun for my Rick Grimes smile.gif

QUOTE(Lego_Jason @ Mar 29 2013, 04:01 PM)
Lol! I didn't even check if Horizon Express includes tracks or not even though I ordered it for myself! tongue.gif

IMHO the cheap way of of adding Power Function to your non-PF train will be to buy 7938 and transfer all the PF components over. wink.gif

I intend to do that to add PF to my soon to arrive Horizon Express. On top of that my existing 7938 will get an additional passenger car to make it longer.smile.gif

I can't wait for my very 1st train set... oh boy oh boy

Your wife is a Lego enthusiastic also?  shocking.gif  shocking.gif where can I find those wife?
*
Initially during my come back to LEGO, she doesn't really like to idea as LEGO isn't cheap and its considered as TOYS.

So i thought why not i import more LEGO along with the sets i want then sell them to help fund my LEGO. Well she ok with the idea.

Then one fine day when i bought Superheroes Loki's cosmic cube escape from Uncle Kenny.

My wife wanted to build it and she likes LEGO after completing it tongue.gif

Then i bought her spring time scene as a gift and she built that too.

wahhh good job! should explore and enjoy your interests together... there's this blog i saw and read about this couple in US crazy about legos. and i love their dedicated lego room. when they needed a centrepiece to decorate their living room, most household would place a bunch of flowers in a vase on the coffee table. they've got a Lego Superstar Destroyer displayed instead.

Total respect!  notworthy.gif

The reason why i didn't buy Helicopter Arrest was because TRU doesn't have 10% and Jusco doesn't have them...
