First Look at Our Next Game: Transistor
QUOTE
We are very, very excited to reveal today a new game we’ve been working on here at Supergiant, a science-fiction-themed action RPG we’re calling Transistor. We’ll have an early build playable this week at PAX East at our booth #892, and right now, we have our reveal trailer! Check it out and read on.

Transistor invites players to wield an extraordinary weapon of unknown origin as they explore a stunning futuristic city. We’re designing our next game to seamlessly integrate thoughtful strategic planning into a fast-paced action experience, complete with our studio’s signature melding of responsive gameplay and rich atmospheric storytelling. All of us from the Bastion development team are working together again on this new project, with the aid of a handful of talented new people who’ve joined us since Bastion’s launch.

In Transistor, players assume the role of a young woman who gains control of a powerful weapon after a mysterious group of assailants nearly kills her with it. Now she must fight from street to street against forces that will stop at nothing to recover the weapon. During the course of the adventure, players will piece together the Transistor’s mysteries as they pursue its former owners.

We expect Transistor to be released in early 2014. We have not yet decided on which platform or platforms the game will be available for.

We know you’ll have a lot of questions about Transistor, so we’ll be putting together a FAQ that addresses them, as well as answering more via Twitter and Facebook — and in person at PAX East this week! And now that the cat’s out of the bag, we’ll be keeping you posted on how development is coming along in the weeks and months to come. We can’t wait to hear what you think!

Tweeted Greg Kasavin of Supergiant Games & suggested him to put the game up in Steam's Early Access program. He replied that they've yet to decide the game platform so just gotta wait for now. sad.gif

Where do I give them more money? I had bought the game twice, and now, a spiritual sequel? Yes, please.

Oh you're looking for ways to give them more money? Sure, get me this pl0x: http://store.supergiantgames.com/collectio.../bastion-bundle

I'll update this thread if I happened to get more news, especially with PAX is currently underway. Pretty sure we'll be getting some reviews soon if there's no NDA in place.

TB's WTF on Transistor.

Looks like it is a mixture of action and turn based. Still a bit disappointed, but I am still excited with the game. I just have a feeling that the universe wont be as mysterious or unique as Bastion.

Thanks for the posting the videos up. Was out the entire day for breastfeeding class & didn't get much time to read the early reviews & videos.

I think Supergiant Games still have quite a bit of polishing up to do or else they'll risk not having Transistor live up to Bastion's success. But I sincerely think that TB is very helpful with his PSA that this build is not final & the whole thing might even change 180° by the time it goes gold.

As usual, I'm head over heels with Jen Zee's awesome artwork. I don't even now how she tap into her imagination to come up with all the lighting effects & at the same time, differs so much from what she did with Bastion. wub.gif

Transistor Coming to PS4 and Steam

QUOTE
One of the most common questions we get about our next game is, which platforms is it coming to? Today we’re excited to have a specific answer for you at last: When Transistor is released sometime early next year, it will be available day one for PlayStation 4, and for PC on Steam. We plan to bring the game to Linux and Mac afterwards, and haven’t ruled anything out beyond that.

It’s no coincidence we’re making this announcement now during the week of the big Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles. Sony gave us the opportunity to show our game in their booth this week, where we’ll be on hand with an early playable build. After an amazing PAX East, it’s going to be great letting a whole new slew of players try the game at E3 — but back to the topic at hand!

Even before we announced Transistor earlier this year, we’d been giving a lot of thought to which platform or platforms would make the best home for the game. It’s a big decision that can influence aspects of the game’s design and can ultimately have a lot to do with its overall success. By focusing on the PlayStation 4 and PC as our launch platforms, we think we’ll be able to reach many of our existing fans right from the start, while letting us focus on delivering the best game possible at launch.

Supergiant art director Jen Zee created this piece, “Cloudbank”, which is being featured in the Into the Pixel exhibition at E3 this year!

You may know that our first game, Bastion, is available for more than six different platforms at this point. But it started on just one. We were still working on new versions of Bastion more than a year after the initial launch on Xbox LIVE Arcade. The main reason Bastion ended up in so many places, of course, is because a lot of people liked the game. And the main reason a lot of people liked it is because we were able to create the game we wanted to make in the first place, by not spreading our focus too thin and making sure Bastion ran great on XBLA, then on Steam, and so on. So, in short: Our strategy of focusing on a console/PC launch worked well on Bastion so we’re doing it again on Transistor.

If you have more questions, please check our newly minted Transistor FAQ, or contact us on Twitter, Facebook, or right here on our web site! Lastly, if you’d like us to notify you when the game is out, we invite you to join our mailing list.

My god, Sony has been going after so many indie developers that I love.

It will be really hard to resist buying the new PS4.

If Star Citizen and Project CARS, probably most advanced crowd funded games, is launching on PS4 too, I think i can really hats off to Sony for pulling so many great games from PC.
*
Not trying to derail the thread but Sony has just literally triumphed the console war so it looks like you're not the only one they've won over.

Thanks for the headsup. I saw the announcement last night while signing lullaby to my baby. I guess it's all about getting the game first & playing it maybe a few months down the road later. biggrin.gif

EDIT: Preordered the game & also a copy of the physical soundtrack. First game-related purchase of mine since months ago. My son will be proud... I hope so. unsure.gif

EDIT2: When I think about it, I'm pretty sure my wife will not be so proud after all. sweat.gif

Funny. I left it the whole day to download the game & only at this very moment the game decides to patch it for 411.1MB. biggrin.gif

To be honest, screenshots or videos doesnt do the game any justice.

You have to actually see the game right in front of your monitor only you can appreciate the beauty of this game. The soundtrack literally blows Bastion's one out of the water.
*
I don't know, I think I'm still waiting for that particular moment where I slowly grow fond of the soundtrack. I'm still leaning towards Bastion's at the moment but perhaps I just need to reach the end of the game to appreciate the soundtrack, just like how I did for Bastion.

Some songs / pieces are meant to compliment the plot (Bastion's ending with Setting Sail, Coming Home is definitely 1 of the most effective combo) so there's a big chance Transistor falls into the same category. wub.gif

QUOTE(Cheesenium @ May 26 2014, 08:39 PM)
1 hour in, man, I am still completely lost. The game doesnt explain itself very well, IMO.
*
And that's the beauty of the game, IMO. Too much spoon feeding is too mainstream & ambiguity will help to generate discussion & interest. smile.gif

I think I literally feel in love with the soundtrack right at the opening where I just sat there and listen to it for about half an hour.

Maybe it is because I liked bands like Explosion in the Sky as the opening track is similar to their work. Dont think there are any spoilers as it is very much just an instrumental track.
I find the game starts off a bit slow though. It is very lacking of the charm that Bastion gives right at the beginning , like what Rukus said in the opening. Transistor's first hour is rather bland since its just combat after combat.

Still, up to a certain point when a cutscene, the game gets very interesting.
*
Rukus? It's Rucks! biggrin.gif

Anyway, have you finished the game? I finally finished it last night & TBH, there are a lot of questions that weren't answered.

*cough* spine of the world *cough*

Overall, I think this is definitely a better game than Bastion & the whole Cloudbank adds so much depth compared to Bastion's Caelondia vs. Ura backdrop.

Any plan to write a review to save this great game from the 3rd page? sad.gif
