ZP980 any review so far yet? I like the sleek body build. Using a samsung galaxy grand do not want to change to a china phone and face issue after changing. sad.gif
*
i'm using ZP980 now. overall i would said it is better than my galaxy tab 2 7.0 (sold) performance. yes, indeed the processor is quad core A7 and only clocked at 1.2gh (until up to date still cannot overclock yet....) but i can said the overall performance is Great! although everyone commented this processor is weak or so on to handle FHD display but I think this phone work pretty well.

About gaming, i not sure, so far, i only tested Raging thunder II, Samurai II: Vengeance, ShadowGun. All running smoothly. I really think this phone worth for every bucks you spent!! and not over price like other BRANDED brand.

About review, I'm not professional reviewer, so I will not do a full review on this phone. I'm just a normal people that use the smart phone for daily used such as call, messaging, browsing, gaming.

QUOTE(kidmad @ Jun 11 2013, 04:58 PM)
bro what about the camera quality? That would be my only concern.
*
I would said it is decent enough with the camera abilities such as face detection, smile capture, beautify face & many more!! rclxms.gif

a <RM1k phone that can give so much, I cannot complain anymore.... if really need to give a mark for this phone, for me, i will rate it as 8.8/10.

The downside for this phone (to me) is: no DLNA (seldom used it), NO NFC (my noteII got it but i also never use it), no tv-out (HDMI output - no issue to me also) & the most important is - battery only 2000mah & it is 1gb ram (well, about the 1gb ram, so far i never encounter the problem of memory insufficient yet! tongue.gif )

get the phone rooted & install the latest firmware, you will be amazed by its performance!! (although up to date still no solution to overclock a MTK6589 SoC cpu)

QUOTE(jonjack88 @ Jun 12 2013, 11:29 PM)
most of them are really cheap and high specs phone

the most important thing is durability, and if it breaks down, who can fix this?
and definitely very low resale value..
*
well, talking about servicing the phone... if it is hardware problem, some shop offer 1 to 1 exchange within 14days for china phone & 1 year warranty (where the shop will help you to send to china). I dont see there is a major issue on this. Branded such as Samseng phones, although the service center is near by, do you ever go and check on their center? you will be shocked seeing so much of Samseng phones owner sending the phones for servicing.... this means the QC also not as good as we thought. myself the tab2 & note I also go to see the 'doctors' few times....
so, how reliable is those branded phone? to my own experience... is more or less the same...

if talking about software issue... well... xda forum is there for you.... you can always flash by ur own....
talking about resale value... its the same thing like Japs car & Korean car in malaysia.
you use HIGH price to buy Japs car of cos your resale value is HIGH also when u sale it.
but in fact you can buy a Korean car (with same spec or even better!!) with lower price, then of cos the resale value is lower. Its the mathematic games only... just that Malaysian dont want to accept the concept.

This Zp980 is my 1st china phone, overall, i will said that the built quality is very good for a <rm1k phone. but to my surprise, by right this ZP980 (16gb version) is rated at USD 350 (pls check on its official website or ebay), but in Malaysia just RM900 - RM950 (depends on which seller).
It really worth every bucks you spent and not overprice.

for those that worry to spend about 900 -950 for the zp980, can look for alternative : C2 which should be around rm750-850 with 4gb ROM. the rest of spec is same as ZP980. for c2 & zp980 can add microsd to 32 gb.

expected to have lot of new 8 core A7 SoC phone end of this year. according to the info, this MTK6592 is even more powerful compare Samsung Exynos Octa; how truth is it will need to wait until end of this year to figure it out.

Since got ppl comment that why got no ppl giving review on those china phone. I will try my best to give the most simple review:

My Device: Zopo ZP980 aka C2 16gb

Spec:
Proc: MTK6589 1.2ghz (too bad.. The earlier batch is not MTK6589T)

Ram: 1gb (i had no lag or memory insufficient problem after 1 mth used, i'm a low to medium gamer)

ROM: 2.46gb (had fixed from 1gb + to 2gb+) for apps

Memory: 11.21gb for data files

Screen: 5" Full OGS HD screen (the screen is damn sharp and pretty!)

Battery: 2000mah x 2 (so far i used only 1 battery, as i worry the back cover will spoilt / loose if i keep opening & close, with 2 sim active, data connected, some gaming, wechat/whatsapp, calls, the battery able to let me to operate from 600am until night 9/10pm with balance 12% - 15%. Of cos its cannot compare with Jiayu, but to me, i think its ok for daily usage. for those who dont want to charge every day, may consider models with higher capacity like Jiayu.

Phone ability: No drop calls even data connection 3G is on 24hrs. phone calls are clear and loud.

Wifi: I got no issue, to me, the connection is strong & stable.

GPS: quickly fix the location. Pretty stable as well.

Camera ability: Fantastic! i very happy v the camera performance! rear 13mp/ front 8mp.

Stability: I'm on custom ROM now, i can said that this phone is very good except some ghost touch on the touch screen, the auto brightness is a mess where I can 'certified' it as malfunction up to now unless the official ZOPO released a more stable driver for this. But to me, I seldom used the auto brightness since i used smart phone, as it always not suit me for the indoor brigthness.

Price vs Performance: I will said it worth for $ as I personally like 5" HD screen & dual sim phone yet stylish designed. but compare with other models like Jiayou & NEO, i will said ZOPO is slightly overpriced.

Possible defect: there are forum that mentioned ZOPO C2/ZP980 do not have a metal frame that protect the touchscreen and when it is easily bent and those force will cause the screen to crack. Advise is never put on your back pocket.

ANTUTU: 11774 (with sim off, wifi off, screen brightness lowest, no other backgrounds apps running)
10855 (all aboved mentioned tweaks not applied)

Satisfy level: 8.9/10 cool2.gif

Well, considering the current MT6589T has scores about equivalent with the Exynos 4412 in the S3, you can still target that.
*
Or wait for the MT6592 phone launch (estimated by end of this year) brows.gif

Well, there are no guaranty thing in this world that 100% perfect. If you worry of the phone explode, i will say that soon or later you will just use public phone as now most of the item is manufactured in China. A China manufactured phone doesn't mean the quality is not good and easily explode. I not denied that some of those super 'cheapo' phone / tablet have higher chance to have this problem, so pls choose a good china brand item as they also have QC on it.

Even Samsung had explode case, so why wanna bias on this topic? Although now i using Zopo ZP980, but i do owned a Samsung Tab 2 (sold out), Note II. I will not say that mine Note II will not explode as I always know that I'm carry the time bomb around me all the time, same as everyone that use a gadget with BATTERY inside. The bigger MAH of your battery, the bigger force it will have.

I haven't try that out since he haven't install the Waze yet. I meet him on Thursday night, so maybe I check the GPS locking issue.

But last night, I play his iOcean X7, the screen really so freaking pretty, in term of color/brightness/contrast etc... No pixelated. He using stock launcher, quite slightly lag when scrolling through each screen, so I install the Nova launcher for him to make it more smoother. biggrin.gif

Another issues is, I found that a lot of Apps can't able install. example like Battery Widget Reborn or Google Chrome or Dropbox, got error during installation. Anyone got this kind of issues when using China phone?
*
talking about the Apps can't install; i do have some findings here.

1st, are you downloading the apps using 3G data connection?
if yes, are you experienced the same error when use wifi to download and install the same apps?

If you can download & install the same apps using wifi but can't with 3G (for apps bigger size then approx 500kb & above), then the problem may solved by 2 ways:

- go to application manager, select and clear data for your market apps, sometime is due to this and the apps won't able to download & install.

- alternatively, the most efficient way is to reset your APN for mobile data. Like my ZP980 also facing the same problem you mentioned, but i managed to solve it by reset my APN. RESET APN by delete the existing APN setting, manually add the APN in and it did solve my problem where 3G Data cannot download & install the apps (it actually downloaded, just cannot install the apps where error will occur).

Hope above help you.

Mr. Bomberman,

Thank you kindly for the clarification, I think your write up is practically the most complete source of data on the differences of various Zopo models.

As an owner of the ZP980, have you any complaints? Any noticeable shortcomings?

QUOTE(BartS @ Jul 24 2013, 03:09 PM)
Perhaps you should re-read my post again. I'll highlight relevant parts.
Kindly note that I specifically mentioned that the product's description does not include mentions of Gorilla glass and in absence of such, it would be wise of any aspiring owner to assume otherwise. Rather than foolishly assume Gorilla glass is present, we would not wish our presumption to later be proofed incorrect with a cracked display.
Well, a screen craked on ZP980/C2 is possible as i had mentioned in my reviews. please take note that GORILLA GLASS is NOT PREVENT FROM SCREEN CRACK BUT SCRATCH. this need to be very clear & ZP980 (AKA C2) is all equipped with Gorilla Glass except the one i mentioned. You may go to this forum as all the best info you will able to get from there a I'm one of the quite active member there.

http://forum.zopomobileshop.com/forum.php?...y&fid=53&page=1

Foolishly assume its Gorilla Glass or not is depends on how many research u had done on the phone before purchased and AS TOLD:
GORILLA GLASS is NOT PREVENT FROM SCREEN CRACK BUT SCRATCH

this link had info on GOrilla Screen
http://forums.androidcentral.com/verizon-d...protectors.html

QUOTE(BartS @ Jul 24 2013, 03:09 PM)
Gorilla Glass is an odd subject. Without risking your phone to physical abuse/damage, there's no real way to determine if your phone has Gorilla Glass. Corning the manufacturer doesn't make it easy either (link) .. "Due to customer agreements, we cannot identify all devices that feature Gorilla Glass. Your favorite device may include Gorilla Glass, even if you don’t see it listed. Ask your manufacturer or retailer to learn more."
As you yourself have mentioned, NOT ALL Zopo phones comes with Gorilla glass. This is strange business strategy from Zopo. Make some with Gorilla and then some others bearing the same exact brand/model without Gorilla glass.
Well, in fact, Zopo is running strange business strategy, you will know better if you visit

http://forum.zopomobileshop.com/forum.php?...y&fid=53&page=1

& its online store

http://www.zopomobileshop.com/

QUOTE(BartS @ Jul 24 2013, 03:09 PM)
With the above in mind, let's suppose you're a small phone manufacturer (implies Zopo). If your product (implies ZP980/C2) has Gorilla Glass, would it not be financially beneficial to advertise that feature in bold emblazon wordings?

As consumers or soon-to-be owners like LA-DC5, it would be most prudent to confirm with the seller first before handing over their hard earned savings.
*
Well, as today's consumer needs, a phone equipped with Gorilla Glass is not longer something very SPECIAL. And perhaps yes, it didnt really emphasize on the equipped of GOrilla Glass, but please go to google all the reviews on this Zopo ZP980 / C2. DO you think those reputable website will simply claims it equipped with gorilla glass? well, to me, i opt to trust on them.

Fantastic review. Good info from firsthand user, I'm sure all the forumers appreciate this.

Is it difficult to flash / update firmware? I have heard that people have soft-bricked the C2 while trying to remove the Aliyun OS.

Does Zopo have their own interface software?

I've got experience with Rockchip based devices, but what do you use to flash Mediatek phones?
*
well, with all the necessary drivers, and enough study, actually it is very easy to root/ flash it.

I use Flashtools to flash the recovery, realigned the phone storage for apps, & root.

After 1 time of hassle, the next time can just use the recovery to flash the rom you want. tongue.gif
